0:00:03 > 0:00:03Thanks for joining me.

0:00:03 > 0:00:07Time to have a look at the weather for the next week or so.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11And 1st August wasn't a pretty picture across the south of the UK.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Heavy rain, generally very cloudy.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15This is a picture from Swansea.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18Through the overnight period, it's going to stay overcast,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21wet and very warm. In fact, temperatures in the South

0:00:21 > 0:00:25could even be more than 15 degrees. But after a beautiful, bright day

0:00:25 > 0:00:28across northern half of the UK for a change, Moray here,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31clear skies overnight. So that means early on Tuesday morning,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34in some of the glens of Scotland, temperatures could be as low

0:00:34 > 0:00:37as two degrees. But that's the exception rather than the rule.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40The reason for this big North/South divide is this weather system,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42that's been sliding in off the Atlantic.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45We've got clearer skies across the North. Whereas, in the South,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48through Tuesday, those weather fronts are still marching through,

0:00:48 > 0:00:51bringing us outbreaks of rain. But I think on Tuesday,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53the rain will be just that little bit lighter. So, here it is.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55Nine o'clock in the morning onwards.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59Cloudy with some rain across most of southern England, Wales,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02central England, too. Into Northern Ireland, due for some rain

0:01:02 > 0:01:04in Belfast. And some of that rain

0:01:04 > 0:01:08getting into south-western Scotland, too. But the North and East there,

0:01:08 > 0:01:11in Aberdeenshire looking fairly bright. Eventually, that rain

0:01:11 > 0:01:12will reach Scotland.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16All of us through Tuesday night into Wednesday will have

0:01:16 > 0:01:19a further dose of rain and still very mild.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23Mild south-westerly winds. Muggy air. 17 degrees across the South.

0:01:23 > 0:01:2515 there across Yorkshire.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Now, Wednesday, winds will be freshening for sure.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30This area of low pressure swings in off the Atlantic.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Quite a few isobars. There, you can count them.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34One, two, three, four, five.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37And so stronger winds, I think, for Northern Ireland,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40the Irish Sea, Wales, into the South as well.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43In fact, quite breezy right across the UK.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45And plenty of showers as well.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48The best of the weather will be across East Anglia and the

0:01:48 > 0:01:50South East, down to the Isle of Wight.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53The London, temperatures could get up to 25 degrees.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Now, that low-pressure will be sliding away. It will take time.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59A painful process. It will eventually end up in Scandinavia.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03But on Thursday, it's still close to northern and eastern areas

0:02:03 > 0:02:06of the UK. So here, I think with low-pressure in charge,

0:02:06 > 0:02:10still showers forming. The far south and south-east by just about get

0:02:10 > 0:02:12away with the mostly dry weather.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Temperatures will be into the low or mid-20s.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18And then, that low-pressure moves out into Scandinavia. This

0:02:18 > 0:02:21high-pressure tries to build in. But we've got more low-pressures

0:02:21 > 0:02:22trying to come our way as well.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26Kind of a battle on Friday between the high-pressure trying to

0:02:26 > 0:02:29build in from the South West and these low-pressure systems

0:02:29 > 0:02:33with weather fronts nibbling on north-western areas of the UK.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Now, the trend for the weekend is for

0:02:36 > 0:02:39a nasty area of low pressure to develop between Iceland and

0:02:39 > 0:02:43our neighbourhood, sending strong winds into north-western areas.

0:02:43 > 0:02:48High-pressure in the South means it will be a lot more settled but a potential for gales I think,

0:02:48 > 0:02:52around the coasts of Ireland and western parts of Scotland.

0:02:52 > 0:02:53Unseasonably windy.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57And into next week, it does look as though that Jetstream will keep

0:02:57 > 0:03:00sending in low pressures, weather fronts into north-western areas.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04Whereas, high-pressure will be in charge of the weather in the South.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08To summarise next week, breezy with some rain in the North West.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Whereas in the South, it is going to be relatively dry.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13So, basically, our standard summer.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Now, we are relatively confident that from around the middle

0:03:16 > 0:03:19of August onwards, things are going to be settling down and we will see

0:03:19 > 0:03:23some warmer weather coming in from the south as high-pressure builds.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27So it does look as though summer is certainly not over yet.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29We do try in the Weather Centre.
