0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello there. I've been trying desperately hard

0:00:05 > 0:00:07to find you some settled summer sunshine,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10but it looks as though summer 2016 remains changeable.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13No two days the same. Take, for example, this week.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16On Tuesday, we had some sunshine and some warmth.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Beautiful across the western Highlands of Scotland.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Further south, it was cloudy, dull and damp, but on Wednesday,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24it was central and southern England and Wales that had the sunshine.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26Yes, it was windy, but further north and west

0:00:26 > 0:00:28under that area of low pressure,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31it was wet, windy and miserable.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34The low is starting to drift off into the North Sea

0:00:34 > 0:00:36and that will bring a quieter spell of weather

0:00:36 > 0:00:38for a couple of days at least.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Now, the winds will swing round to a north-westerly direction.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43That will make it feel just that little bit fresher.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45We still run the risk of a few showers.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Some of them possibly thundery,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48but hopefully quite isolated

0:00:48 > 0:00:52with highs likely of 14 to 22 Celsius.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54As we move out of Thursday into Friday,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56a little bump of high-pressure continues to build

0:00:56 > 0:00:59and quieten things down from the West.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01So Friday will look predominantly dry.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04This little fellow bringing some showers in by the end of the day,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06but not a bad day in prospect.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08A few showers first thing in sheltered eastern areas.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11The sunshine builds, it will be a nice day and with light winds,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13it will feel quite pleasant in the sun.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15By the end of the day,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17a scattering of showers to the north-west,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19but highs again of 14 to 23 degrees.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21By the time we move towards the weekend,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24there is still a level of uncertainty for the weekend

0:01:24 > 0:01:25because we've got this high-pressure

0:01:25 > 0:01:27building from the south-west.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28That again is the Azores' high.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30It's going to introduce this humid air again,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32but at the same time,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34low pressure moving in from the north-west and it's using

0:01:34 > 0:01:38the UK as the battleground and there is still some uncertainty

0:01:38 > 0:01:40as to how much impact that area

0:01:40 > 0:01:42of low pressure is going to have.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46So on Saturday, there'll be a good deal of dry, sunny weather and warm.

0:01:46 > 0:01:4824 degrees in the far south-east.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51The low pressure will eventually bring some wet and windy weather

0:01:51 > 0:01:54into the extreme north and west.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57As it drifts its way South and East, it weakens.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59A band of cloud potentially by then, but on Sunday,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02it could still produce the threat of some showers

0:02:02 > 0:02:04and a disappointing feel. To the south-east however,

0:02:04 > 0:02:07there is a chance of it turning very warm indeed.

0:02:07 > 0:02:1125 degrees plus, so still a lot to play for on Sunday.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12But the weekend is not a write-off

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and these are my favoured spots

0:02:14 > 0:02:17if you're thinking of taking the kids off to the beach for the day.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Very nice indeed, particularly the further east you are.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23But if you're heading off to Barry, make the most of it because

0:02:23 > 0:02:25by Monday, we could see a return to some wet and windy weather

0:02:25 > 0:02:28starting to push into Wales and the south-west.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31That will move its way south and east,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33East Anglia and the south-east staying dry and sunny.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35So what's happening to our weather?

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Well, in recent days and weeks, we've had this jet stream

0:02:38 > 0:02:40and that's been sitting across the country.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Fast-moving jet,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44it's brought areas of low pressure

0:02:44 > 0:02:47and a cooler snap before the amplification dips further south

0:02:47 > 0:02:49and we see that warmer air returning.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51Now, as we move into next week,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54it looks as though the jet stream slows a little

0:02:54 > 0:02:57and the amplification becomes more animated,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58more enhanced.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00And when that happens,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02it's quite tricky for computer models to get a handle

0:03:02 > 0:03:04on the detail in the story.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07At the moment, into next week, it looks as though this area of

0:03:07 > 0:03:10low pressure will sit into the North Sea with high-pressure

0:03:10 > 0:03:14out to the West and that's going to drive in this cooler northerly flow.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16We could still keep some dry weather

0:03:16 > 0:03:17particularly down to the South,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20but it looks as though the temperatures will start

0:03:20 > 0:03:23to tumble, unseasonably cool really for this time of year

0:03:23 > 0:03:24and we could see some rain

0:03:24 > 0:03:26particularly the further north you are.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29Still a lot to play for and, of course,

0:03:29 > 0:03:30we'll firm up on the details.
