8:36:30 > 8:36:32Thanks for tuning in to our outlook for the next week or so.
8:36:32 > 8:36:34And I'm sure you've noticed
8:36:34 > 8:36:36that in the last few days it's been quite blustery.
8:36:36 > 8:36:38Winds have died down more recently -
8:36:38 > 8:36:41in fact, a lovely day with light winds on the way on Friday.
8:36:41 > 8:36:43Then, come the weekend, it looks like
8:36:43 > 8:36:45the winds are going to pick up again.
8:36:45 > 8:36:47So it's sort quite changeable out there right now.
8:36:47 > 8:36:49This is the pattern for Friday.
8:36:49 > 8:36:52High pressure will be very close to the UK on Friday,
8:36:52 > 8:36:53driving our settled weather,
8:36:53 > 8:36:55but then this bump in the jet stream
8:36:55 > 8:36:58that's going to develop an area of low pressure
8:36:58 > 8:37:00will send more windy weather in our direction.
8:37:00 > 8:37:03So we're getting these little ripples along the jet stream,
8:37:03 > 8:37:06which makes the weather change from day to day.
8:37:06 > 8:37:10So, Friday we're in that window of much calmer weather.
8:37:10 > 8:37:13Remember, this high pressure starting to build across the UK,
8:37:13 > 8:37:15so lots of sunshine around,
8:37:15 > 8:37:1824 Celsius, not a bad day across northern areas,
8:37:18 > 8:37:20apart from maybe the odd shower as well.
8:37:20 > 8:37:22And with high pressure close by,
8:37:22 > 8:37:25the winds will be light into Friday night and Saturday,
8:37:25 > 8:37:28so that means fairly cool conditions as well.
8:37:28 > 8:37:30But winds are going to be increasing
8:37:30 > 8:37:33through the course of Saturday morning.
8:37:33 > 8:37:36We, in fact, develop gales by the time we get to the evening,
8:37:36 > 8:37:37and the reason for it is
8:37:37 > 8:37:39this high pressure's still kind of in charge
8:37:39 > 8:37:40of the weather in the south,
8:37:40 > 8:37:42but this low - quite a big nasty one -
8:37:42 > 8:37:44is going to zip across the UK
8:37:44 > 8:37:45during the course of the weekend,
8:37:45 > 8:37:47bringing unseasonably windy weather.
8:37:47 > 8:37:49So, for Saturday morning, for most of us,
8:37:49 > 8:37:50a nice, crisp, sunny start,
8:37:50 > 8:37:53but the winds behind me, you can see increasing here -
8:37:53 > 8:37:56that's that low pressure in the Atlantic heading in our direction.
8:37:56 > 8:37:59Gale-force winds, bringing weather fronts with it too,
8:37:59 > 8:38:01so thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain
8:38:01 > 8:38:03to the far northwest of our neighbourhood.
8:38:03 > 8:38:05Way to the south-east it's going to be warm.
8:38:05 > 8:38:07And then, Saturday night into Sunday,
8:38:07 > 8:38:10that low pressure zips to the north of the UK.
8:38:10 > 8:38:11Lots of isobars here.
8:38:11 > 8:38:14Quite often, when you see these little bumps in the isobars
8:38:14 > 8:38:18it means very gusty, very buffeting winds across the UK.
8:38:18 > 8:38:21So, from northern England northwards we could get gusts of up to 50mph.
8:38:21 > 8:38:25That could even bring a branch down. Really blustery one.
8:38:25 > 8:38:27To the south, it's breezy too,
8:38:27 > 8:38:28nowhere near as windy though,
8:38:28 > 8:38:30and temperatures still managing
8:38:30 > 8:38:32to get up to around about 24 Celsius.
8:38:32 > 8:38:34Now, with these ripples in the jet stream,
8:38:34 > 8:38:36we keep getting these weather systems coming in.
8:38:36 > 8:38:39Here's another one - not quite so windy, this one.
8:38:39 > 8:38:42So this one arrives on Monday, bringing increasing winds,
8:38:42 > 8:38:43a little bit of rain,
8:38:43 > 8:38:45there'll be a weak weather front here,
8:38:45 > 8:38:47perhaps bringing fresher conditions to Scotland.
8:38:47 > 8:38:50But to the south of us the winds are coming in from that direction -
8:38:50 > 8:38:53you can see the winds are almost merging here, so warmer weather.
8:38:53 > 8:38:55Now, look at this - Monday,
8:38:55 > 8:38:58we still have little ripples in the jet stream here and there,
8:38:58 > 8:39:00so when that happens the weather keeps changing.
8:39:00 > 8:39:02But as we head into Tuesday,
8:39:02 > 8:39:05things will change out there in the Atlantic,
8:39:05 > 8:39:08in fact the weather looks as though it will start to calm down.
8:39:08 > 8:39:11Look at this - this is Tuesday, lots of fine, dry weather.
8:39:11 > 8:39:14We can see very little in the way of wind here -
8:39:14 > 8:39:16most of the arrows are to the north,
8:39:16 > 8:39:18that's where the breezy weather is with one or two showers.
8:39:18 > 8:39:22And the reason why things are going to calm down
8:39:22 > 8:39:23well into next week
8:39:23 > 8:39:27is because we get this pattern in the jet stream -
8:39:27 > 8:39:28a big ridge developing here.
8:39:28 > 8:39:32This is a wide, very wide ridge, big area of low pressure.
8:39:32 > 8:39:34We're on the cool side of it, though,
8:39:34 > 8:39:36so with high pressure bringing settled weather,
8:39:36 > 8:39:39it's actually going to drag some cooler air in our direction too.
8:39:39 > 8:39:40That basically means that
8:39:40 > 8:39:43rather than the days being particularly cold,
8:39:43 > 8:39:45it's the nights that will feel quite cool.
8:39:45 > 8:39:47So with that changing pattern, it'll stay dry,
8:39:47 > 8:39:49there'll be some sunshine around for sure,
8:39:49 > 8:39:52but the nights will be fairly clear and cool.
8:39:52 > 8:39:55So, windy, changeable weather for the next few days,
8:39:55 > 8:39:57and then next week things will calm down.
