0:00:02 > 0:00:05Good evening, it's time to update you on our thoughts for next week

0:00:05 > 0:00:08and the heat that is on its way, and what happens thereafter.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11But for the time being, let's have a look at what we've seen during

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Thursday, the weather fronts have given us quite

0:00:13 > 0:00:15a bit of rain, they are still around with us

0:00:15 > 0:00:17on Friday in the north and the west in particular.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Tightly packed isobars, so if you're up first thing in

0:00:19 > 0:00:21the morning, you'll notice the wind,

0:00:21 > 0:00:23particularly across Scotland, Northern Ireland and

0:00:23 > 0:00:26northern England, and that 100mm indicative of what

0:00:26 > 0:00:29we've seen falling through Thursday, Thursday night and into Friday.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32So, as I say, some gusty winds particularly to the east of

0:00:32 > 0:00:34the Pennines, east of the Grampians,

0:00:34 > 0:00:35across Northern Ireland,

0:00:35 > 0:00:39driving that rain onto the hills and again just adding to those

0:00:39 > 0:00:42totals, so not a day for heading out into the hills, and obviously

0:00:42 > 0:00:45that will temper the feel of things,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48with temperatures only 16 to 19, but with more sunshine than

0:00:48 > 0:00:50we saw on Thursday in the south, it will be warmer still.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54And a fine evening, it's just that then as we go through Friday night

0:00:54 > 0:00:56we see the rain trundling southwards.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Not a great deal on it except across the Welsh hills,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and showers follow.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03A fresher feel but again, quite a warm night in the south with

0:01:03 > 0:01:06all the cloud, low cloud, hill fog as well,

0:01:06 > 0:01:07and the drizzly rain.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09But eventually, that should break up,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11most of us will have some sunshine and

0:01:11 > 0:01:14a lot of dry weather this weekend, and of course it's August

0:01:14 > 0:01:16so it will feel warm as the Winds start to ease out.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19But you can still see there's a brisk breeze in the far north

0:01:19 > 0:01:22of the country, starting to blow that weather front away, although we

0:01:22 > 0:01:27do linger with some cloud across southern counties of the country.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30Southern England, south Wales, first thing Saturday morning -

0:01:30 > 0:01:32some drizzly rain, but for most of us sunny spells and

0:01:32 > 0:01:35a scattering of showers and very few showers getting into eastern

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Scotland, across the Midlands, into the north of England as well.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41So it will feel pleasant enough in that sunshine, 16 to 18,

0:01:41 > 0:01:42because it's fresher air.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Still got quite a bit of cloud in the south but I think it will

0:01:45 > 0:01:47be dry and bright for the most part.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Then we do, through Saturday night, say goodbye to that weather system.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53We've got a little ridge of high pressure building in for Sunday.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Still some cloud mulling underneath that high pressure,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58so I can't promise wall-to-wall sunshine but it will be dry,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01it will be bright, and it will be, for most of us, some strong August

0:02:01 > 0:02:04sunshine. Allowing the temperatures to get between the high teens and

0:02:04 > 0:02:06the low 20s.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08But thereafter, the heat really starts to build,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11as that high takes hold, we pick up this southerly wind,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14that high keeping our weather fronts at bay, instead we start to

0:02:14 > 0:02:17pick up the heat that's building already across Iberia and France.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20And it's likely to get into southern counties later on Monday,

0:02:20 > 0:02:24we could see 25, 26, perhaps a little higher, and temperatures

0:02:24 > 0:02:26starting to rise further north as well,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28less cloud around so that hot air -

0:02:28 > 0:02:31just watch its movement, heading its way northwards,

0:02:31 > 0:02:35that southerly wind ahead of the low pressures sat in the Atlantic,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38battling that high pressure sat across the UK and further east.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41So it does look as if, by the time we get to Tuesday

0:02:41 > 0:02:44and Wednesday, the middle part of the week,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46we will start seeing temperatures getting into the 30s.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50So it's our second spell this summer of that sort of heat but

0:02:50 > 0:02:53it looks like a flash in the pan because it may well

0:02:53 > 0:02:55end midweek with a thundery breakdown,

0:02:55 > 0:02:59often the case here in the UK as those weather fronts finally

0:02:59 > 0:03:02start to move in and the heat allows some really intense downpours.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05So that's how it's looking for the middle to end of the week,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08then we may see a ridge of high pressure building in for

0:03:08 > 0:03:12a time, but it's how long that will keep low pressure at bay out

0:03:12 > 0:03:13in the Atlantic.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17So really, after the early heat it looks set to turn much fresher

0:03:17 > 0:03:21after the thundery breakdown, with some sunshine in this,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24just how long that brief ridge of high pressure can hold off

0:03:24 > 0:03:27those low pressures and keep the showers to a minimum.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I'll update you tomorrow.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32The heat in the Den is rising.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36You're coming across as, frankly, ridiculous.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38I'm flabbergasted by that. Will they get burnt...
