0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. We've probably all spent longer than we normally would do

0:00:06 > 0:00:09staring longingly at blue skies over Rio in the past week or so,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11but we had skies to rival them on Tuesday.

0:00:11 > 0:00:12Glorious blue skies across

0:00:12 > 0:00:14the Highlands of Scotland in particular,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17where we saw temperatures peak at 27 degrees,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20only a few degrees behind those at Rio

0:00:20 > 0:00:22and a warm day elsewhere across many western areas.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24The warmth by day has been increasing

0:00:24 > 0:00:26so it's not as chilly to start the days,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28certainly the case on Wednesday.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Lovely sunshine warming things up for many,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32but note rain spreads in by the afternoon

0:00:32 > 0:00:34across much of Northern Ireland

0:00:34 > 0:00:35and a few splashes of rain

0:00:35 > 0:00:37out towards the far west, too.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Temperatures in the sunshine

0:00:38 > 0:00:39could reach 27 Celsius

0:00:39 > 0:00:41in the Midlands,

0:00:41 > 0:00:4425-26 across northern parts of Scotland,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46but, as I've hinted, we finish the day

0:00:46 > 0:00:47with rain in Northern Ireland,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48maybe the odd spot

0:00:48 > 0:00:50in the islands of Western Scotland

0:00:50 > 0:00:52and some thundery rain in Wales, south-west England

0:00:52 > 0:00:54late in the afternoon and evening.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56That continues through the night,

0:00:56 > 0:00:57spreading across the southern counties.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59That might be welcome news to gardeners,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02where there's been little rainfall for a while now.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03But note the temperatures -

0:01:03 > 0:01:04much, much milder

0:01:04 > 0:01:06and quite a humid start to Thursday morning.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09The thundery rain could be hit and miss across southern areas

0:01:09 > 0:01:11to begin with and most of it fizzles out

0:01:11 > 0:01:12to leave one or two showers

0:01:12 > 0:01:13through the afternoon.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16A small chance of showers further north

0:01:16 > 0:01:18and a bit more cloud around on Thursday

0:01:18 > 0:01:20than we've been used to so far this week,

0:01:20 > 0:01:21but still a pleasant day.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Temperatures down on what they have been,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25but still into the 20s for many

0:01:25 > 0:01:26away from these eastern coasts,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27where we've got the wind

0:01:27 > 0:01:29still coming in from the south-east.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32That all changes as we go into the start of Friday.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Big looming area of low pressure,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36it stays out to the west initially

0:01:36 > 0:01:37so it allows us a bright start

0:01:37 > 0:01:39across northern and eastern areas, but

0:01:39 > 0:01:41a zone of rain will spread its way

0:01:41 > 0:01:42northwards and eastwards.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44I don't think anywhere

0:01:44 > 0:01:45it will rain all day long,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48brighter and showery weather following in its wake.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49But the wind picks up,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52the rain never really reaches the far north of Scotland.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53Another fine day here,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56but temperatures will be down on what we've been used to

0:01:56 > 0:01:58so far this week and down on what they should be

0:01:58 > 0:02:00for this time of year,

0:02:00 > 0:02:01which leads us into the weekend

0:02:01 > 0:02:03and if you are away camping this weekend,

0:02:03 > 0:02:04this is a chart you don't want to see -

0:02:04 > 0:02:05cover your eyes.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07An unseasonably deep area of low pressure

0:02:07 > 0:02:08spreading its way in,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10strong to gale force winds wrapped around that.

0:02:10 > 0:02:11The strongest the wind -

0:02:11 > 0:02:13and this will probably be the biggest impact

0:02:13 > 0:02:15from the weather on Saturday,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17especially if you've got outdoor events planned -

0:02:17 > 0:02:18will be across England and Wales,

0:02:18 > 0:02:19especially further south.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21It could touch gale force at times.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23They will push through frequent showers,

0:02:23 > 0:02:24some of which heavy and thundery,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26but there'll be gaps between the showers.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Not a wash-out of a day, by any means,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30and some of you may actually see

0:02:30 > 0:02:32precious little showers at all.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34But, as I said, windy and it stays windy,

0:02:34 > 0:02:35England and Wales especially,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37as we go through the night and into Sunday.

0:02:37 > 0:02:38Some longer spells of rain

0:02:38 > 0:02:40wrapped around these weather fronts

0:02:40 > 0:02:41as we go through the day,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43probably north-west England

0:02:43 > 0:02:44and north Wales bearing the brunt.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Either side of that, sunshine and showers,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48showers zipping across the sky further south

0:02:48 > 0:02:50thanks to the strength of that breeze.

0:02:50 > 0:02:51It does mean, though,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53there'll be some sunshine in between.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55We continue on that cooler trend through Sunday

0:02:55 > 0:02:57as we do into the start of next week.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58The low pressure pulls away.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00We see an area of high pressure

0:03:00 > 0:03:02try to build its way in.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03It's not going to have a huge impact,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06but it settles things down for Monday,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08but with north-westerly winds,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09it's not going to be overly warm.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11And then, into next week,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13it looks like the jet stream kicks into gear

0:03:13 > 0:03:15so the dry weather we potentially start with

0:03:15 > 0:03:16may not last too long.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17Northern and western areas

0:03:17 > 0:03:18prone to weather fronts

0:03:18 > 0:03:19pushing their way through,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21south and east more likely to stay that bit dry

0:03:21 > 0:03:23and I'm ever the optimist -

0:03:23 > 0:03:24there is a sign,

0:03:24 > 0:03:25only a small sign at the moment,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28that things could warm up a little bit towards the south-east corner

0:03:28 > 0:03:30and I'll hold on to that bit of optimism

0:03:30 > 0:03:32and bring you more tomorrow.
