0:00:03 > 0:00:06The weather looks interesting as we go towards the bank holiday weekend,
0:00:06 > 0:00:08bank holiday for most of us, that is, but even before we get
0:00:08 > 0:00:11there, there's going to be some fun and games in the atmosphere.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13We've got big contrasts right now across the UK -
0:00:13 > 0:00:15a weather front bringing cloud and rain
0:00:15 > 0:00:17across Scotland and Northern Ireland
0:00:17 > 0:00:18during much of Tuesday.
0:00:18 > 0:00:19For England and Wales,
0:00:19 > 0:00:20a grey, misty, murky start,
0:00:20 > 0:00:22but then the sun gets to work
0:00:22 > 0:00:24and the temperatures really shoot up.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26Where there's the cloud and the rain further north,
0:00:26 > 0:00:27it's going to be a cool day,
0:00:27 > 0:00:28but for England and Wales
0:00:28 > 0:00:30and the sunshine in the afternoon,
0:00:30 > 0:00:32widely into the mid-20s and 30 Celsius is possible
0:00:32 > 0:00:34in and around London.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36Now, we'll keep the clear skies through Tuesday night
0:00:36 > 0:00:38across the southern half of the UK.
0:00:38 > 0:00:39That weather front gets going
0:00:39 > 0:00:41across southern and eastern Scotland.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43The potential for some big thunderstorms
0:00:43 > 0:00:45on that weather front
0:00:45 > 0:00:47still marking the boundary between the warm air
0:00:47 > 0:00:49and the fresher air, so a comfortable night
0:00:49 > 0:00:50behind that weather front,
0:00:50 > 0:00:53but ahead of it across eastern and southern England,
0:00:53 > 0:00:55really warm and humid on Tuesday night.
0:00:55 > 0:00:57It may not drop in some towns and cities
0:00:57 > 0:00:59below 20 Celsius.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01So it's a warm start to Wednesday
0:01:01 > 0:01:02and potentially with that weather front
0:01:02 > 0:01:04still in the far north-east, a wet start,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06but the rain edges away from Shetland.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08Bar a few scattered showers in Western Scotland,
0:01:08 > 0:01:09Wednesday's a dry day.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11A much brighter day for Scotland
0:01:11 > 0:01:12and in Northern Ireland,
0:01:12 > 0:01:14but still a hot one across East Anglia
0:01:14 > 0:01:15and the south-east.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17We're drawing in the hotter air still from the Continent
0:01:17 > 0:01:20and this weather front is still wriggling around.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22It looks like it's heading away,
0:01:22 > 0:01:24but then we get a little ripple on it on Wednesday night
0:01:24 > 0:01:27and Thursday and combined with some moisture,
0:01:27 > 0:01:29heat and moisture means things go bang
0:01:29 > 0:01:31through the summer months.
0:01:31 > 0:01:34That means thunderstorms potentially developing
0:01:34 > 0:01:36on Wednesday night and through Thursday.
0:01:36 > 0:01:37It's difficult to say exactly where,
0:01:37 > 0:01:39but some places could get torrents of rain.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42A risk that these thunderstorms are quite vicious,
0:01:42 > 0:01:44potentially over the Midlands and northern England,
0:01:44 > 0:01:46but they could be a little further east or west.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48That is something we'll keep an eye on.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50That weather front still bringing the boundaries,
0:01:50 > 0:01:52the warm air hanging on across the south-east
0:01:52 > 0:01:54although potentially not as warm.
0:01:54 > 0:01:56Elsewhere, we're in the high teens or low 20s.
0:01:56 > 0:01:59Now, that weather front still around on Thursday evening,
0:01:59 > 0:02:01potentially bringing some downpours,
0:02:01 > 0:02:03but, finally, we say goodbye to it on Friday.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05High pressure toppling in behind for most of us
0:02:05 > 0:02:07and with the cold front moving through,
0:02:07 > 0:02:09it will be much fresher across East Anglia
0:02:09 > 0:02:10and the south-east.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12Quite breezy across the north-west,
0:02:12 > 0:02:14we could see a few showers here,
0:02:14 > 0:02:16but, for most, Friday is a pretty pleasant day.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18High teens or low 20s and, as I say,
0:02:18 > 0:02:20you'll notice that cooler feel across the south-east.
0:02:20 > 0:02:22Will the high last for the weekend?
0:02:22 > 0:02:24Well, it's never that straightforward, is it?
0:02:24 > 0:02:27Low pressure is edging slowly towards the UK
0:02:27 > 0:02:29as we go towards Saturday.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31Now, it is edging slowly and the main reason for that is,
0:02:31 > 0:02:33well, let's look high up in the atmosphere
0:02:33 > 0:02:35at the jet stream.
0:02:35 > 0:02:37It's in one of its more wiggly phases,
0:02:37 > 0:02:38shall we say.
0:02:38 > 0:02:39It's not particularly strong,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41but when we get this pattern
0:02:41 > 0:02:42with the jet stream,
0:02:42 > 0:02:45it means everything tends to move quite slowly
0:02:45 > 0:02:47and starting off with this area of low pressure
0:02:47 > 0:02:48edging in from the Atlantic.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51As it does so, it may well draw up some warmth
0:02:51 > 0:02:53for the start of the weekend,
0:02:53 > 0:02:56particularly across southern parts of the UK.
0:02:56 > 0:02:57So that's how we start the weekend
0:02:57 > 0:02:59and then, at some point,
0:02:59 > 0:03:01the low pressure system will cross the UK.
0:03:01 > 0:03:02Whether it's to the north,
0:03:02 > 0:03:03whether it's to the south,
0:03:03 > 0:03:05that is open to some doubt,
0:03:05 > 0:03:06but behind it,
0:03:06 > 0:03:08high pressure will at least for a time move in,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10so the things we know about the weekend -
0:03:10 > 0:03:12there's the potential for some warmth,
0:03:12 > 0:03:13particularly early on.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15There will be a spell of rain for all of us,
0:03:15 > 0:03:17but exactly when and exactly where
0:03:17 > 0:03:18we see the heaviest stuff,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20we'll have to firm up on that.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22It may then turn drier as we go into Monday
0:03:22 > 0:03:24before things look like turning back
0:03:24 > 0:03:26to more changeable conditions
0:03:26 > 0:03:28as we go further into next week.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29We'll continue to keep you updated.
0:03:36 > 0:03:37CHEERING
0:03:37 > 0:03:4030 years. We've come a long way, that's for sure.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42Something's not right, Charlie.
