0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello, it's a Bank Holiday weekend ahead for most parts of the

0:00:06 > 0:00:09UK and when that happens the weather is never straightforward.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11More on that in a moment because even before we get to the

0:00:11 > 0:00:13weekend there's going to be some fun and games in the skies,

0:00:13 > 0:00:16the heat and humidity likely to trigger some thunderstorms.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19We could just start to see one or two heavy showers drifting up

0:00:19 > 0:00:22into southern areas later on on Wednesday.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25For Scotland and Northern Ireland, a much brighter day on Wednesday,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and a comfortable day here too, 19 or 20 degrees.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30With more cloud generally across England and Wales

0:00:30 > 0:00:33it won't be as hot but the heat and humidity continue.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36Another sizzler - across the south-east and East Anglia

0:00:36 > 0:00:38over 30 Celsius is possible.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40And then the heat, the humidity, spark the thunder storms.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43We'll see more of them developing on Wednesday evening,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45pushing further north and throughout Thursday

0:00:45 > 0:00:47the risk of some torrential downpours.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50All that energy causing the potential for some pretty

0:00:50 > 0:00:52violent storms. Difficult to say exactly where.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Parts of the Midlands, northern England could be most prone,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57but we could see some across Wales, East Anglia too.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Still quite warm across the south-east but not as warm.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Temperatures generally elsewhere high teens, low 20s,

0:01:03 > 0:01:04a fine day generally

0:01:04 > 0:01:07on Thursday for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10And then into Thursday and Friday that weather front finally

0:01:10 > 0:01:13takes its downpours away. Weak area of high pressure starts to build.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16There is this area of low pressure. More on him in a moment.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Because the high promises for most of us a fine day on Friday.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23Still with that weather front nearby and some warmth across the

0:01:23 > 0:01:25south-east we may see one or two showers.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27And there will be some showery rain and

0:01:27 > 0:01:30a brisk breeze across the far north-west of Scotland.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32But for most Friday is a fine day, a comfortable day again,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35with temperatures at high teens or low 20s.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38And then into the weekend.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41I talked about that low-pressure system a moment or so ago and it's

0:01:41 > 0:01:44gradually, and I do mean gradually, edging towards us.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47As it approaches from the south-west it could draw up some warmth

0:01:47 > 0:01:50once more from the near continent.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53I talked yesterday about how the jet stream is in this more

0:01:53 > 0:01:56elongated pattern and when that happens everything becomes

0:01:56 > 0:01:58slow-moving and when things are slow-moving it adds

0:01:58 > 0:01:59to the uncertainty.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02In this little kink, that's the breeding ground for an area

0:02:02 > 0:02:06of low pressure, which is just chugging towards the UK.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09So it will slowly be bringing outbreaks of rain tracking

0:02:09 > 0:02:12northwards but some uncertainty about the position of this

0:02:12 > 0:02:13band of rain.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15It could be further north, it could be further south.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19As I said it may introduce some warmth again across the South.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22We're reasonably happy that during the weekend at some point the

0:02:22 > 0:02:24low will cross the UK.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25So most of us will see some rain,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28most likely on Sunday across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:02:28 > 0:02:32heavy showers most likely across England and Wales.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34So the weekend is complex.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36It's not a complete write-off by any means.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39There will be some warmth and there will be some sunshine too but

0:02:39 > 0:02:43I think we'll all also need to be prepared for a spell of rain.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Into Monday, Bank Holiday, except in Scotland of course,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49it does look a little drier. Fewer showers? Why so?

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Finally that low-pressure starts to pull away and we've got

0:02:52 > 0:02:55a little bump, a little ridge of high pressure

0:02:55 > 0:02:56for Bank Holiday Monday.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57How long will it last?

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Not too long because there's more low-pressure systems close by.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03Looking further ahead into next week, I talked about the jet

0:03:03 > 0:03:07stream in this more wavy-like pattern through the weekend,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10into next week we're back to a more standard pattern, you might say.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Not a particularly strong jet but when it's in this kind of position

0:03:13 > 0:03:17it drives low-pressure systems across the northern half of the UK.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20So here we are more likely to see more changeable weather.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23There will be some brisk breezes and some outbreaks of rain but

0:03:23 > 0:03:25further south, promising signs next week.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27To the south of that jet stream we should see some fine

0:03:27 > 0:03:29and settled weather. Goodbye.
