0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello, there. A hurricane could have an effect on our weather

0:00:05 > 0:00:08in the week ahead. A positive effect, rather than a negative one,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10as we'll see in a moment. There has to be good news,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12after the awful storms that swept across the heart of England

0:00:12 > 0:00:14during the course of the day on Saturday.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Every picture tells a story.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18It's still pretty wet out there in some places.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21First thing on Sunday, all the wet weather across

0:00:21 > 0:00:25Northern England, Southern Scotland as well, some showers further south.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Some of these showers will drift their way eastwards, but they won't

0:00:28 > 0:00:31be the violent thunderstorms which some of us encountered on Saturday.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32A scattering of showers, though,

0:00:32 > 0:00:34for central and eastern parts of Scotland. Drier out west.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37Some reasonable weather for Northern Ireland.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40An improving story for Northern England as well.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Now, after some morning showers across parts of Wales and

0:00:42 > 0:00:45south-west England, increasing amounts of sunshine here,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48particularly towards the coast. Good news if you're heading to the beach.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49These showers tracking their way eastwards.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51One or two thundery showers, but, again,

0:00:51 > 0:00:52not the violent storms we've had.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Not as warm as it has been across the south-east but still

0:00:55 > 0:00:58pleasant enough, if you're going to the Notting Hill Carnival,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01for example. Fine weather for Monday as well. Warming up a touch too.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02I'm pretty optimistic, actually.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04If you've got plans for Bank Holiday Monday.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Just in time, we'll have a little ridge of high pressure toppling

0:01:07 > 0:01:10across the country and that will settle the weather down at

0:01:10 > 0:01:12least for a time. Plenty of dry and bright weather.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Most of us, nearly all of us, will be dry.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16It will feel very nice indeed in the sunshine,

0:01:16 > 0:01:17with light winds across the south.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20A bit fresher further North, approaching weather front clouding

0:01:20 > 0:01:23things up, but the rain should hold off till later on across

0:01:23 > 0:01:25the west of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27A glancing blow from that weather system,

0:01:27 > 0:01:30the high pressure holding firm further South across the country,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33so I'm pretty optimistic that the fine weather will continue

0:01:33 > 0:01:35across the more central and Southern areas on Tuesday

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and the sunshine, again, temperatures are doing pretty well,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40beginning to warm up again.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Approaching weather front across Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:01:43 > 0:01:44will strengthen the winds,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47with the rain not too far away during the course of Tuesday.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51And that weather front will start to edge its way southwards and

0:01:51 > 0:01:53eastwards in a very erratic way through Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56with some outbreaks of rain. The progress of that weather front

0:01:56 > 0:01:59a little bit uncertain and certainly across the more southern

0:01:59 > 0:02:01and eastern areas it should stay fine again and pretty warm.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Behind that weather system, brightening up.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Cooler and fresher here with a westerly breeze holding those

0:02:06 > 0:02:08temperatures in the mid to high teens.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Now, the progress of that weather front, as I say,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12is a little bit uncertain.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15It will end its way down towards the south-east with the odd

0:02:15 > 0:02:18shower here, I think, on Thursday and it will start to turn

0:02:18 > 0:02:20a bit cooler as that front arrives.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24Behind that, it'll be bright with some sunshine but the next

0:02:24 > 0:02:27weather system will be arriving off the Atlantic with the threat

0:02:27 > 0:02:29of some showery rain late on in the day.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32And certainly, as we end the week,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35it does look as if the Atlantic will take over, if you like, with

0:02:35 > 0:02:38the weather fronts coming in from the west and some of the rain

0:02:38 > 0:02:40across the more northern parts of the UK could well be quite

0:02:40 > 0:02:43heavy and accompanied by quite a strong and gusty wind.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45That's the message, then, as we end the week.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47It'll be cooler for all of us. There'll be some rain around.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49The driest weather across the south-east,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52the wettest and windiest weather across the more north-western areas.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54Now, I mentioned that hurricane.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57I'm going to take you down into the tropical Atlantic,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59where we've got Hurricane Gaston.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01It will start to head its way northwards and if you've been

0:03:01 > 0:03:03watching this bulletin over the last few hours,

0:03:03 > 0:03:08we do think it will eventually get sort of swept up by the

0:03:08 > 0:03:10jet stream, start to head in our direction.

0:03:10 > 0:03:11But no longer a hurricane,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13an area of low pressure, quite an intense low.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17But it looks as though it's going to stall out across the Azores

0:03:17 > 0:03:21and that means it's going to build up an area of high pressure

0:03:21 > 0:03:24closer to home and, as we go through the weekend,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26that high looks as if it'll edge in towards us,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29settling the weather down into the early part of next week.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30See you tomorrow.
