0:00:03 > 0:00:05What's going on in the tropics this week may have

0:00:05 > 0:00:09an indirect bearing on what goes on with our weather next week.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11Stay tuned, I'll fill you in in a few minutes.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13But for most of us through this week,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15plenty of dry and warm weather,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17particularly across southern and eastern areas.

0:00:17 > 0:00:18Further north and west

0:00:18 > 0:00:20there'll be more cloud at times,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22breezy conditions. There will be some rain,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24but even here there'll be

0:00:24 > 0:00:26decent dry weather as well.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28This is how Bank Holiday Monday looks.

0:00:28 > 0:00:29Good news for many of us,

0:00:29 > 0:00:30bar the odd shower early on

0:00:30 > 0:00:32across eastern counties

0:00:32 > 0:00:33most of us will have a fine day

0:00:33 > 0:00:35with plenty of pleasant sunshine.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37We'll see thickening cloud eventually

0:00:37 > 0:00:39across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41an approaching weather system here.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42This strength in the wind keeping it cool.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Further south and east in the sunshine

0:00:44 > 0:00:46it should feel very pleasant indeed

0:00:46 > 0:00:48with temperatures up in the low,

0:00:48 > 0:00:49possibly mid 20s.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52A glancing blow from this weather system

0:00:52 > 0:00:53across the far North-West

0:00:53 > 0:00:55as we go through the night into Tuesday.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56That should clear away

0:00:56 > 0:00:58leaving just the odd drib and drab of rain

0:00:58 > 0:01:00towards western coasts and hills.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02A bit of cloud still across the North-West,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04but further south and east in the sunshine

0:01:04 > 0:01:05it'll feel very nice,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07temperatures even higher, into the mid,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09possibly high 20s across the South-East.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Cooler and fresher to the north-west,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13with a strengthening wind.

0:01:13 > 0:01:14The next weather front coming in

0:01:14 > 0:01:15brings a splash of rain

0:01:15 > 0:01:17to Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,

0:01:17 > 0:01:18but as it tracks its way

0:01:18 > 0:01:21south and east through Wednesday,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23it'll weaken, so much of the rain will fade away.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26It never really makes it to southern and eastern areas,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27so another fine day to come here

0:01:27 > 0:01:29with temperatures again doing well.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Behind that weather front,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33fresher conditions with blustery showers,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35particularly for the West of Scotland.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Here's the big picture for later in the week.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40High pressure still holding sway

0:01:40 > 0:01:41across many central and southern areas.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Another weather system comes in off the Atlantic,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45we'll have to keep an eye on that.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47But for the time being on Thursday,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49plenty of fine weather. Could be a cool start,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52but in the sunshine it'll feel very nice indeed,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54and with light winds temperatures back up

0:01:54 > 0:01:56into the low to mid 20s across the South.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59Always that bit fresher across the North.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01By the time we reach the end of the week,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03this front coming in from the West

0:02:03 > 0:02:04will make its presence felt,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06but as a slowing future.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08There's uncertainty about its progress eastwards,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10but it looks as if we'll see wet weather

0:02:10 > 0:02:13for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland

0:02:13 > 0:02:14again on a strengthening wind.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Whereas further south and east

0:02:16 > 0:02:17across the country we'll hold on

0:02:17 > 0:02:18to at least one more

0:02:18 > 0:02:21fine and potentially pretty warm day.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22Temperatures again doing very well

0:02:22 > 0:02:24for what will be early September,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26up into the mid, possibly high 20s.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27Again, it will be fresher

0:02:27 > 0:02:29towards the North and West.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32Big question marks about the progress of that front

0:02:32 > 0:02:33eastwards through the weekend,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35but I think we'll see unsettled weather

0:02:35 > 0:02:37gradually spreading across the country.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39So some rain at times,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41cooler conditions for the South and East.

0:02:41 > 0:02:42I mentioned the tropics,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45we're keeping a close eye on Hurricane Gaston.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48We also have a tropical depression further west in the Atlantic.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50And these sources of energy

0:02:50 > 0:02:52will start to move their way northwards.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54Gaston will no longer be a hurricane,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57but an area of low pressure, an injection of energy,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00up towards us and our jet stream

0:03:00 > 0:03:02will have a rippling downstream effect.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Gaston is not going to reach our shores, we think.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07It looks as if through early next week,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09low pressure will dominate

0:03:09 > 0:03:10across northern and western areas

0:03:10 > 0:03:12and high pressure could hold sway

0:03:12 > 0:03:14across the more southern

0:03:14 > 0:03:16and central parts of the UK.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17But I must reiterate,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19there's a lot of uncertainty

0:03:19 > 0:03:21generated by these tropical features.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22We'll keep an eye on Gaston.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24It looks like staying away, but it may have

0:03:24 > 0:03:26a knock-on effect on our weather

0:03:26 > 0:03:28for the early part of next week.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Tom will update you again tomorrow.
