0:00:03 > 0:00:05Well, it's time for our extended weather update

0:00:05 > 0:00:07and if you were watching yesterday,

0:00:07 > 0:00:09we talked a lot about the tropical storms in the Atlantic

0:00:09 > 0:00:12that may be influencing our weather in some sort of way

0:00:12 > 0:00:14but in the short-term,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16this is what it looks like for the rest of the week.

0:00:16 > 0:00:17It should be quite sunny,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20a fair amount of sunshine for most of us, pleasantly warm

0:00:20 > 0:00:23but there will be some spells of rain heading our way as well.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25This is what we had in the last sort of day or so -

0:00:25 > 0:00:27high pressure close to the south-east of the country

0:00:27 > 0:00:30so here, spectacular clear, blue skies,

0:00:30 > 0:00:31really lovely weather there

0:00:31 > 0:00:33but these weather fronts in the Atlantic

0:00:33 > 0:00:35are making inroads so the first spell of rain brought

0:00:35 > 0:00:37by this cold front here,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39that's heading in the direction

0:00:39 > 0:00:41of Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42And, eventually,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45this normal progression of weather patterns

0:00:45 > 0:00:47will be disrupted in some way or another

0:00:47 > 0:00:49by these tropical storms and this hurricane,

0:00:49 > 0:00:50for example, Hurricane Gaston.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52That's way out there,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55still not bothering anybody for the time being,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57probably won't do actually,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59even in the mid-to-long-term.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01But this is what it looks like on Wednesday -

0:01:01 > 0:01:02we've got a weather front crossing the UK,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05there will be some spells of rain, plenty of sunshine

0:01:05 > 0:01:07across western areas,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09quite fresh here, 17, 18 degrees.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11You'll notice that not quite

0:01:11 > 0:01:12so warm across the south-east,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15in fact, on Tuesday, temperatures here

0:01:15 > 0:01:17were getting up into the high 20s,

0:01:17 > 0:01:18more like 22 or 23 degrees

0:01:18 > 0:01:21with this weather front crossing through.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Now, this is a ridge,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24it's almost like a bump, like a hill,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26and this is high pressure here and when we get that,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28and it's usually between two weather systems,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31we get a window of much better weather so, actually,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33not looking bad at all for most of us on Thursday

0:01:33 > 0:01:35but a little bit of rain, again,

0:01:35 > 0:01:36coming off the Atlantic

0:01:36 > 0:01:39with those weather fronts lining up there

0:01:39 > 0:01:40for Northern Ireland

0:01:40 > 0:01:42and also western parts of Scotland.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Now, Thursday evening into Friday,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46these weather fronts will be sliding

0:01:46 > 0:01:48across the northern half of the UK

0:01:48 > 0:01:50so Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Lake District,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52eventually Wales, perhaps into the south-west,

0:01:52 > 0:01:53we'll have some rain

0:01:53 > 0:01:55and then later on in the afternoon,

0:01:55 > 0:01:56even the central and southern areas of the UK

0:01:56 > 0:01:59could catch a little bit of rain.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01So, I think, most of us, by the end of Friday,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04will at least have a dose of rain -

0:02:04 > 0:02:05not necessarily heavy rain

0:02:05 > 0:02:08but there will be one or two sprinkles

0:02:08 > 0:02:09at the very least. So, the weekend,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12let's have a look at the broad picture across the Atlantic.

0:02:12 > 0:02:13So, these swirls here,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16individual tropical storms,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18one actually moving across Florida,

0:02:18 > 0:02:19lots of heavy rains here,

0:02:19 > 0:02:20this one moving out

0:02:20 > 0:02:23just off the eastern seaboard of the US

0:02:23 > 0:02:24and another one here, probably Gaston,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27a tropical storm by this stage, and basically,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29what these storms do when they move northwards,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31they transport all of that heat, that energy,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33the tropical air northwards

0:02:33 > 0:02:35but this isn't really great news

0:02:35 > 0:02:36for us weather forecasters

0:02:36 > 0:02:38because that, as I said,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40disrupts the normal progression of weather fronts.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41But this is Saturday

0:02:41 > 0:02:44so those tropical weather systems

0:02:44 > 0:02:46are nowhere near us, this is just our ordinary

0:02:46 > 0:02:49wet and windy weather heading our way for Saturday.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50So, not a pretty picture

0:02:50 > 0:02:52for many of us and actually, come Sunday,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55it could be fairly unsettled as well but I think,

0:02:55 > 0:02:56during the weekend,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58there should be at least a window of opportunity

0:02:58 > 0:03:00of some sunshine

0:03:00 > 0:03:01so it's not going to be

0:03:01 > 0:03:02a wash-out all the way through.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03And then early next week,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06this is the satellite picture right now, but early next week,

0:03:06 > 0:03:07again, as we were saying,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09these tropical weather systems

0:03:09 > 0:03:10moving northwards

0:03:10 > 0:03:12so perhaps they will be transporting

0:03:12 > 0:03:13some of that tropical air,

0:03:13 > 0:03:14that humid, warmer air

0:03:14 > 0:03:16in our direction but to the south-east,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17we'll start to see

0:03:17 > 0:03:19a high pressure developing here so actually,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22the weather may end up being dry across the south

0:03:22 > 0:03:24but at the moment, too early to say what's waiting in the wings -

0:03:24 > 0:03:27it could be anything flying our way.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's it from me. Thanks for watching.
