0:00:02 > 0:00:05Now that climatological autumn is well underway, we'll take a look

0:00:05 > 0:00:08back at the three months of summer. Through June, July and August.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11Well, actually, it will go down as quite a wet summer but

0:00:11 > 0:00:14that's mainly because June itself was a very wet month.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Actually, through July and August,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18through the Midlands and much of southern England,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21particularly the south-east, it was much drier than average and

0:00:21 > 0:00:25overall temperatures were a notch or two above the seasonal norm.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27So, quite a warm three-month spell.

0:00:27 > 0:00:28And we did see some heat,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31the heat peaked on August 23 in Faversham

0:00:31 > 0:00:34in Kent, with 34 Celsius.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36And we're going to see the temperatures rising again

0:00:36 > 0:00:39through this coming week, turning warmer pretty much across the board.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42We start the new week with this weather front coming in from

0:00:42 > 0:00:44the west.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46As you can see, there's a fair number of isobars on it,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49so that means it will be quite breezy and there will

0:00:49 > 0:00:50be some rain with that as well.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Now, the rain will be trying to work its way eastwards all the while,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55but it never really gets to the eastern side of Scotland,

0:00:55 > 0:00:58the eastern side of England, so it stays dry here,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00clouds over to some degree in the afternoon.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02Further west, after a wet start to the day

0:01:02 > 0:01:04the rain becomes very light and patchy in the afternoon.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06We keep a lot of low cloud though,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08around the coast and over some hills, generally quite

0:01:08 > 0:01:09a warm and humid afternoon,

0:01:09 > 0:01:12temperatures in the high teens or the low 20s.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13Then on into Tuesday,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16and there will be a slow start to the day particularly across England

0:01:16 > 0:01:18and Wales, with fairly extensive low cloud,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20some mist and some fog, a little bit of rain on this weather

0:01:20 > 0:01:23front for Northern Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25And as we get on into Tuesday afternoon,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28I think we'll begin to break up some of that cloud and it's going to

0:01:28 > 0:01:31be warm, quite widely, 25, 26 in the south-east but even into the low

0:01:31 > 0:01:3220s in northern Scotland.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34And then as we get on to the middle of the week,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37this big high in the centre of Europe, winds go

0:01:37 > 0:01:40clockwise around that, so we are developing this southerly breeze,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43and that's what going to be with us through the middle of the week.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45It's going to import something a little bit drier,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48so that I think that drier air will help to evaporate that cloud

0:01:48 > 0:01:51away, so through Wednesday morning we may well start again quite

0:01:51 > 0:01:54grey but as that drier air drifts up from the south,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56it will begin to break that cloud up into the afternoon,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59so some good spells of sunshine developing. Dry virtually

0:01:59 > 0:02:02everywhere, just the odd spot of rain in the far north and west,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05where temperatures will be around about 15 or 16, but for many of us

0:02:05 > 0:02:08on Wednesday it's a very warm one, into the low to middle

0:02:08 > 0:02:1120s quite widely, could get 26 or so in the south-eastern corner.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14By Thursday, we start to see this weak weather front just

0:02:14 > 0:02:16drifting its way in from the south, and west,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19it will bring some outbreaks of rain with it, but it's also going

0:02:19 > 0:02:22to drop those temperatures by a few degrees in the south and west.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Ahead of that, with some good spells of sunshine, it's going to be

0:02:25 > 0:02:27a very warm day, particularly so in the south-eastern corner here,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30we could get 27 or 28 degrees but we're into the low 20s

0:02:30 > 0:02:33quite widely. Notice those temperatures just dropping back

0:02:33 > 0:02:35a little bit behind that weak weather front.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Which continues to work its way ever eastwards through Thursday night

0:02:38 > 0:02:41and on into Friday, with a bit of a breeze coming in behind that.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44So by Friday, temperatures might be down by couple of degrees in

0:02:44 > 0:02:47comparison with Thursday, but still on the warm side.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49In the high teens or the low 20s in the south-east,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52and many central and eastern areas looking fine and dry but

0:02:52 > 0:02:54we will see some wetter, windier weather drifting into the

0:02:54 > 0:02:57western side of the UK through Friday afternoon.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Then, looking further ahead into the coming weekend, the big picture

0:03:01 > 0:03:03sees high pressure still across central Europe.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Low pressure to the north-west of the UK - a slightly

0:03:06 > 0:03:09fresher breeze blowing around that low, but still, for many,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11we've got this south-westerly breeze,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14still bringing in some fairly warm air.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17So looking further ahead into the start of the coming week,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19it looks we'll develop this north-west, south-east split,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22still a bit of a breeze in the north and north-west, closer to that

0:03:22 > 0:03:25low, some sunshine further south and still those temperatures for

0:03:25 > 0:03:27most places will be a few degrees above normal.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28Bye for now.
