0:00:03 > 0:00:04Interesting week.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07Not the dramas of heat and heavy rain over the last day or so but

0:00:07 > 0:00:10some interesting developments in the jet stream over the week ahead

0:00:10 > 0:00:12in this part of the Northern Hemisphere which will make

0:00:12 > 0:00:15forecasting quite challenging. More of that in a moment.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17As far as the weekend's concerned, one thing we can be sure of,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20it's going to be a fresh-feeling couple of days and certainly

0:00:20 > 0:00:23a chilly start to your Saturday in many areas, with temperatures

0:00:23 > 0:00:27in rural spots well down into single figures under clear skies.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30The exception across some eastern counties of England,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32where we've still got some damp, dreary weather,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35and if anything, that's going to start to edge westwards into

0:00:35 > 0:00:38some central areas as we go through the day, with the odd spot of rain.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Best of the sunshine will be further west.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44A lovely afternoon to come for Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:00:44 > 0:00:48the more north-western parts of England and down across Wales, too.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51A delightful afternoon to come here with light winds,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53sunshine and temperatures up into the mid-to-high teens.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55South-west England doing pretty well too.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59But for the Midlands, north-east England, south-east England,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02some of that cloudy, damp, chilly, dreary weather.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05It might brighten up across East Anglia but by the same token,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08we could see the odd sharp shower developing here, too, because

0:01:08 > 0:01:10this weather front really never dies a death.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12It's still there as we go into Sunday,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15so a lot of cloud in association with that and the odd shower.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Another front then enters the fray across Northern Ireland

0:01:17 > 0:01:20and Western Scotland, with some wet weather here.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24Somewhere in between, there's going to be some dry, bright weather

0:01:24 > 0:01:26through this central slice of the UK.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Temperatures again much fresher than they have been.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Through the early part of next week, we're going to see fronts trying

0:01:31 > 0:01:34to come in off the Atlantic and most of the oomph of those fronts

0:01:34 > 0:01:38will be across the more north-western parts of the UK,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41but this one gets stranded across central areas on Monday

0:01:41 > 0:01:43with some outbreaks of rain.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47On either side, drier, maybe the odd shower across the south-east,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49probably some of the best of the brightness

0:01:49 > 0:01:51across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55Now, that front tends to break up in situ across England and Wales.

0:01:55 > 0:01:56Still the odd shower left behind.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59The next weather front not far off from Northern Ireland

0:01:59 > 0:02:03and Western Scotland but actually on Tuesday, plenty of dry weather here.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Then on Wednesday, that next frontal system starts to edge in

0:02:07 > 0:02:10across Northern Ireland and Scotland, so, as I say,

0:02:10 > 0:02:13it's the more north-western parts of the UK which are likely to see

0:02:13 > 0:02:16most of the wet weather through the early-to-mid part of next week.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20Further south and east, drier, brighter, pleasant enough

0:02:20 > 0:02:23with light winds, though not the heat we've seen in recent days.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Temperatures mostly stuck in the mid-to-high teens.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28If you've been watching, I've been talking about

0:02:28 > 0:02:31the fact that the Arctic is getting colder and colder now

0:02:31 > 0:02:34as we approach the Equinox, with lobes of cold air pushing out

0:02:34 > 0:02:37of Canada, through Greenland and into the Atlantic,

0:02:37 > 0:02:41meeting lobes of warm tropical air coming up from the south,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44and where those two meet, where they clash, that tends to rev up

0:02:44 > 0:02:47the jet stream - the stronger the temperature gradient,

0:02:47 > 0:02:48the stronger the jet stream -

0:02:48 > 0:02:51and we'll get a pretty strong jet later next week.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54It's going to carry frontal systems into those more

0:02:54 > 0:02:57north-western parts of the UK, so that's where most of the rain

0:02:57 > 0:03:01will be through the mid-to-latter part of next week.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Further south and east, though, that jet really getting deflected away,

0:03:04 > 0:03:09and the reason for that lies to our east, because we have a block here

0:03:09 > 0:03:13in the atmosphere which is kind of fending off this Atlantic jet,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16and as long as it does that, that's going to keep

0:03:16 > 0:03:19the more southern and eastern areas somewhat drier.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22So we've got that battle between the Atlantic jet against

0:03:22 > 0:03:25the Continental block, which means western areas will be wettest,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28eastern areas will be driest, we think.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30We'll update you again tomorrow.

0:03:32 > 0:03:37MUSIC: Powerful by Major Lazer
