0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. Well, what a week it has been.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07Some extreme record-breaking heat for September,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10but also some significant stormy weather.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Now, the week ahead looks a little more benign

0:00:12 > 0:00:14and probably, you will be pleased to hear,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16a little more autumnal in flavour.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19Yes, some cloud around and outbreaks of rain from time to time.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22But in between those cloudy, wet spells,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24there'll also be some breaks in the cloud

0:00:24 > 0:00:26and some sunshine coming through.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Now, if we have clear spells by day,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30through the night, as we get into the middle of September,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33we could see some mist and fog forming

0:00:33 > 0:00:35and some of that may well be slow to clear.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37So more of an autumnal flavour to our weather

0:00:37 > 0:00:39as we go through the week.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41There will be some dry weather in the offing

0:00:41 > 0:00:43and some sunshine coming through on Sunday.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46A better day in prospect across much of eastern England,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49particularly in comparison to the cloudy skies on Saturday.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Now, north-west Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:00:51 > 0:00:54will see some outbreaks of rain, some of it heavy at times.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Clouding over across eastern Scotland

0:00:56 > 0:00:58and maybe through north-west England and Wales.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01More cloud around than we've seen on Saturday.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03Hopefully, though, further east of that

0:01:03 > 0:01:04the cloud should start to break up,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06we'll see some sunshine coming through.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09More sunshine across eastern England in comparison to Saturday.

0:01:09 > 0:01:14And temperatures will be a degree or so higher, 20 or 21 degrees here.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17That weather front that's bringing the rain into the north-west

0:01:17 > 0:01:18slowly sweeps its way south and east,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20but it's really going to take its time in doing so

0:01:20 > 0:01:22and will weaken off a band of cloud

0:01:22 > 0:01:26and the odd spot or two of showery, drizzly rain by Monday.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Ahead of it, we see some brightness and 19 degrees.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Behind, fresher, but a little more sunshine coming through.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35And that is going to be the theme as we run through the week, really.

0:01:35 > 0:01:39That weather front slowly meandering its way south and east.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41By the time it clears away from the south-east corner,

0:01:41 > 0:01:45really just a band of cloud, the odd spit and spot in the wind.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Brighter, fresher conditions follow on from behind.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49But with those clearer skies,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52we could see some patchy mist and fog forming.

0:01:52 > 0:01:5414 or 15 degrees to the north-west,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57still a little warmer in the south-east with highs of 20 degrees.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00On Wednesday, there will be a good deal of dry weather in the offing,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02albeit on the cloudy side.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04A more significant area of cloud, wind and rain

0:02:04 > 0:02:07into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland

0:02:07 > 0:02:09looks likely to be the feature.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10And this, again, is going to make

0:02:10 > 0:02:13painfully slow progress further east.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15So we will see some wet and windy weather

0:02:15 > 0:02:18continuing across north-west Scotland and north-west England

0:02:18 > 0:02:21for a time and rainfall totals will tot up.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24But elsewhere, cloudy skies and the odd spot or two of rain

0:02:24 > 0:02:27and a little warmer here with 19 degrees.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29So Thursday looks like a pretty messy day.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31What's happening at the moment

0:02:31 > 0:02:34is we are dragging in this cold air from the Arctic

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and it's bumping into the warm tropical air

0:02:36 > 0:02:39that we've got across the Atlantic at the moment.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Where the two meet, that's where we really see the battleground,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44more energy into the atmosphere,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47and that is invigorating the jet stream at the moment.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Now, usually when we get a fast-moving jet across the country,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52it throws these areas of low pressure

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and these frontal systems across the UK

0:02:54 > 0:02:56and it stays pretty unsettled.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58But as you can see, there's quite a significant kink

0:02:58 > 0:03:01in the jet stream at the moment and the reason being

0:03:01 > 0:03:04is an area of high pressure across the near continent

0:03:04 > 0:03:07and that's blocking, it's preventing the low pressures

0:03:07 > 0:03:08from moving across the country.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10So they're sitting up into the north-west

0:03:10 > 0:03:13and pushing across the north-west.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16That's where the most unsettled weather is likely to be.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18So for the longer six- to ten-day period,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20it remains pretty changeable.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23The wettest of the weather looks likely to remain in the north-west,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25with the driest in the south-east.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Don't forget, where we get those clear skies,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29we get some patchy mist and fog forming.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Take care.
