0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hi there.

0:00:03 > 0:00:05As we look towards the end of the month and beyond,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08it looks as if we're in for a turbulent spell of weather.

0:00:08 > 0:00:09No two days the same.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11We're going to see some wet and windy conditions,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14interspersed by some shorter, settled spells.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17We start with rain across eastern England on Sunday morning,

0:00:17 > 0:00:18that won't last long.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20Brighter skies following, and a whole packet of showers,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22some of these could be heavy.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25Thundery across northwestern areas, some hail mixed in too.

0:00:25 > 0:00:26It's going to be one of those days.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29Sunshine and showers, chopping and changing from hour to hour.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32In the best of the sunshine, temperatures mid to high-teens.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Cooler than Saturday across eastern England.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35When the showers come along,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37those temperatures will be falling away by several degrees.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40They'll continue into the night across northwestern areas,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43then a bit of a lull through the early hours of Monday,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45before this blob of blue arrives.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48This is proving to be a headache for us forecasters, because getting

0:00:48 > 0:00:52the track of this area of low pressure is proving very difficult.

0:00:52 > 0:00:56The bottom line is to expect some rain at some stage on Monday.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Some of it could be heavy and persistent.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00And where you see several hours of rain, it could be quite cool,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02particularly through central areas.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05That area of low pressure whistles away, to be followed by

0:01:05 > 0:01:09a whole succession of fronts and low pressures through the week ahead,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11continuing that turbulent spell I spoke about.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14In between, mind you, there'll be some gaps, so some sunshine.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17That's really the gist as we look through the next few days.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20There will be some wet and windy weather, some of which could

0:01:20 > 0:01:23cause some disruption, so watch this space for warnings.

0:01:23 > 0:01:27But, in between, there will be sunshine too.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29So Monday's rain clears out of the way,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32followed very swiftly by another area of wet and windy weather,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34targeting the northwest of the UK.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Particularly further south and east, it'll be drier and brighter,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40warmer as well, temperatures getting up to the low-20s.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43That'll be tempered by the winds, very strong winds across

0:01:43 > 0:01:47the North West for a time, watch out for warnings for that.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49And then another lull as we head towards the middle of the week,

0:01:49 > 0:01:53a little ridge of high pressure, could be quite chilly overnight.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Before the next area of low pressure arrives on our doorstep from

0:01:56 > 0:01:58the west, that'll be spreading more wind and rain,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00again to the more northwestern areas.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03That's where the worst of the weather will be in the week ahead.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Further south and east, not much rain, and the winds lighter as well.

0:02:06 > 0:02:10But a sting in the tail of this area of low pressure.

0:02:10 > 0:02:11You see the tightness of the isobars,

0:02:11 > 0:02:15indicating potentially some very stormy conditions across

0:02:15 > 0:02:18parts of Scotland, maybe northern England as well.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Again, we could feel the need to issue someone warnings,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22closer to that event.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23That clears out of the way,

0:02:23 > 0:02:26then another one of those lulls on Thursday.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28The winds dying down, sunshine returning,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30it should feel pleasant in some places out of the breeze.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Why is the weather so turbulent?

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Well, at this time of the year, the Arctic is cooling down rapidly,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37you can see the expanding area of blue.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40We've also got some tropical air coming up from the south.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Where those two air masses are meeting across the heart of America,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46during the course of next week,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49we get the jet stream becoming quite supercharged.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52A strong jet stream, then rippling its way downstream,

0:02:52 > 0:02:56getting the position of these ripples is proving quite difficult.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Our computer model's still quite uncertain about the detail as

0:02:59 > 0:03:02we end the week. But in general, it does look as if,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04to the north of the jet stream, low pressure will dominate.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07To the south, high pressure.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09And that replicates itself in terms of the weather.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Closest to the area of low pressure,

0:03:12 > 0:03:16that's where we're most likely to see unsettled, wet and windy spells.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Whereas closest to the high-pressure area to the south,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21that's where we're likely to see the more settled conditions.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24But, at this time of year, of course, with light winds overnight,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27that brings the potential for some lingering fog patches as well.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I'll update you again tomorrow.
