0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. Thanks for tuning in to our weather for the next week or so.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09The weather will chop and change a little bit over the next few days.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12One thing that many of us will notice

0:00:12 > 0:00:15is the strength of the wind over the next 48 hours or so.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Those winds really will be building,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20particularly Scotland, gale-force winds on the way.

0:00:20 > 0:00:21But it won't be that cold.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23In fact temperatures across most of the country

0:00:23 > 0:00:26will be in the upper teens, closer to 20 degrees.

0:00:26 > 0:00:27So one of the reasons

0:00:27 > 0:00:29why it's relatively warm out there

0:00:29 > 0:00:31is this south-westerly air

0:00:31 > 0:00:33coming in from the southern climes.

0:00:33 > 0:00:34But a lot of cloud out there.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36This is the next area of low pressure

0:00:36 > 0:00:38affecting us, come Thursday.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40It's in a development stage.

0:00:40 > 0:00:41And this area of low pressure

0:00:41 > 0:00:44will become stronger and more powerful

0:00:44 > 0:00:45as it moves across the Atlantic,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47develops more and then eventually

0:00:47 > 0:00:49we'll start to see those gale-force winds

0:00:49 > 0:00:50approaching our shores.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53With that, we'll see cloud and rain as well.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55Not everybody will get the wind, cloud and rain,

0:00:55 > 0:00:58but many of us will have an unsettled spell.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59This is Wednesday.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Actually, not too bad first in the morning.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02There'll be sunshine,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04the afternoon's not looking bad

0:01:04 > 0:01:06across many southern and eastern areas.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08But notice the very outer edges

0:01:08 > 0:01:10of that nasty area of low pressure

0:01:10 > 0:01:12will be making their presence felt

0:01:12 > 0:01:15across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17You can see thicker cloud here

0:01:17 > 0:01:18around the Western coasts,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20but not cold, around 18 to 20 degrees.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23Let's focus on this area of low pressure.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Here it is. Lots of isobars.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27This is our first, proper autumn blow.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Gales in the north-west of the country.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31In fact quite stormy here for a time.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33But those strong winds will be pretty nasty

0:01:33 > 0:01:35across the lowlands as well.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37Through the middle of Thursday,

0:01:37 > 0:01:38we could see gusts of 50mph, 60mph

0:01:38 > 0:01:40through these major cities.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43In the far north-west, up to as much as 70mph.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46And this could be problematic for travel.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48There could be restrictions on bridges

0:01:48 > 0:01:49across this part of the country.

0:01:49 > 0:01:50You'll feel the strength of the wind

0:01:50 > 0:01:52further south too, across northern England.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54But lots of fine weather as well,

0:01:54 > 0:01:55so it's not all bad.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57And temperatures still around 20 degrees.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Once that gale blows through,

0:01:59 > 0:02:00we'll lose the warmer air

0:02:00 > 0:02:03and slightly fresher air will arrive

0:02:03 > 0:02:04from the northern climes.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07So, by Friday, those temperatures take a dip.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08This is early on Friday.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Still just about holding up into the upper teens

0:02:11 > 0:02:13across the south-east.

0:02:13 > 0:02:14But notice, 13s and 14s,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16so a much fresher feel to things,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18with one or two showers.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19In fact, the showers become

0:02:19 > 0:02:21more extensive, come Saturday.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22Some heavier ones too.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25And for most of us it will be

0:02:25 > 0:02:27around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29So a cooler day on Saturday.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Then, Saturday night into Sunday,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33so the second half of the weekend,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35the weather does actually improve.

0:02:35 > 0:02:36We're fairly confident there'll be

0:02:36 > 0:02:38lots of dry weather around.

0:02:38 > 0:02:39Exactly how warm it will get,

0:02:39 > 0:02:42I think for most of us around 15 or 16 at best.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44The morning might be chilly,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46but the good news is, for many of us,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48there should be a fair bit of sunshine around.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Beyond that, the start of next week,

0:02:50 > 0:02:51this is the pattern.

0:02:51 > 0:02:52The jet stream we're expecting

0:02:52 > 0:02:53when we see this dip here,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55we quite often see that area

0:02:55 > 0:02:56of low pressure to the north-west.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59There's a high pressure just to the east of us.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01So that implies the better of any weather

0:03:01 > 0:03:04will be the further south-east and east you are.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07There's a suggestion that perhaps we'll see

0:03:07 > 0:03:09slightly warmer weather coming in from the south.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11But there's always a reservoir of cooler air

0:03:11 > 0:03:13waiting out in the Atlantic.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14So on balance, the best way

0:03:14 > 0:03:16to summarise it is pretty much

0:03:16 > 0:03:18what we'd expect this time of year.

0:03:18 > 0:03:19Cloudy and more unsettled in the north,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22whereas in the south there's a better chance

0:03:22 > 0:03:24of getting some drier weather.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Not necessarily warm,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28remember, the mornings are getting cooler now

0:03:28 > 0:03:30at this time of the year. Bye-bye
