0:00:03 > 0:00:05Well, the weekend's upon us and the weather is looking
0:00:05 > 0:00:07a little bit mixed, has to be said -
0:00:07 > 0:00:09a bit like today, actually.
0:00:09 > 0:00:11For many of us, it was a fine day,
0:00:11 > 0:00:13but we also had a few big showers,
0:00:13 > 0:00:14some big cumulonimbus clouds
0:00:14 > 0:00:17bringing downpours in one or two areas,
0:00:17 > 0:00:19but also sunshine with fair-weather clouds.
0:00:19 > 0:00:21We saw lots of these cloud streets -
0:00:21 > 0:00:23you can see them on the satellite picture
0:00:23 > 0:00:24that I'll show you -
0:00:24 > 0:00:27we had this west-southwesterly flow of wind
0:00:27 > 0:00:29and these shower clouds developing
0:00:29 > 0:00:30along the flow of that wind.
0:00:30 > 0:00:32But notice this area of cloud here
0:00:32 > 0:00:35that is now drifting off the Atlantic.
0:00:35 > 0:00:37That is unfortunately going to upset
0:00:37 > 0:00:40the weather for us during the course of Saturday.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42So here it is for the early hours
0:00:42 > 0:00:43of Saturday morning -
0:00:43 > 0:00:44another area of low pressure
0:00:44 > 0:00:46drifts in off the Atlantic and,
0:00:46 > 0:00:48unfortunately, this will be stuck
0:00:48 > 0:00:50across the country all through the day.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52So not everybody will be happy
0:00:52 > 0:00:54with the weather on Saturday.
0:00:54 > 0:00:55Some of us, the unfortunate few,
0:00:55 > 0:00:57underneath this band of cloud and rain,
0:00:57 > 0:00:59could have temperatures of around 10 degrees.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01There could be thunder and lightning.
0:01:01 > 0:01:02The winner this time
0:01:02 > 0:01:04will be the northern portion of the UK -
0:01:04 > 0:01:06northern England, Northern Ireland
0:01:06 > 0:01:07and Scotland, some sunshine.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09Very quickly, that low pressure
0:01:09 > 0:01:11will drift away towards the east
0:01:11 > 0:01:12then this -
0:01:12 > 0:01:13what we call a ridge of high pressure -
0:01:13 > 0:01:15is going to develop for Sunday,
0:01:15 > 0:01:18so Sunday is actually looking fine.
0:01:18 > 0:01:20A lot of clear skies early on Sunday.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22That means that it will be a chilly start to the day,
0:01:22 > 0:01:23particularly in rural areas.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25In fact, in Scotland and Northern Ireland,
0:01:25 > 0:01:27there will be a touch of frost first thing.
0:01:27 > 0:01:29So, cold morning, maybe a bit of mist,
0:01:29 > 0:01:31but the day will be gloriously sunny
0:01:31 > 0:01:33across most of the country, here.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35Just the outer edges of that low pressure
0:01:35 > 0:01:37that we had on Saturday visible, here,
0:01:37 > 0:01:38but for most of us,
0:01:38 > 0:01:40we are in-between weather systems,
0:01:40 > 0:01:41hence, a glorious day.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43Remember, that ridge of high pressure,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45sitting right on top of us,
0:01:45 > 0:01:46giving these fine conditions.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48Temperatures will average around 15,
0:01:48 > 0:01:50could get up to 18 degrees Celsius
0:01:50 > 0:01:52in London.
0:01:52 > 0:01:54Now, this high pressure will stick around
0:01:54 > 0:01:56across this part of Europe for quite some time.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58I'll be focusing on that over the next minute or so.
0:01:58 > 0:02:01Weather fronts trying to come in off the Atlantic,
0:02:01 > 0:02:02but they can't - in fact,
0:02:02 > 0:02:04the thinking is, on Monday,
0:02:04 > 0:02:05there will be a weather front
0:02:05 > 0:02:07knocking on the door of Northern Ireland
0:02:07 > 0:02:09and western parts of Scotland,
0:02:09 > 0:02:11but the vast majority of the UK,
0:02:11 > 0:02:13enjoying these south-southeasterly winds,
0:02:13 > 0:02:15and that means the temperatures will rise.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18Could be not far off 20 degrees in London.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20Something of an Indian summer, there,
0:02:20 > 0:02:22across the south-east. Now, come Monday -
0:02:22 > 0:02:24this is the jet stream, actually -
0:02:24 > 0:02:26notice this big kink and how it diverts northwards.
0:02:26 > 0:02:27When this happens,
0:02:27 > 0:02:30the jet stream tends to stall weather fronts
0:02:30 > 0:02:32just to the west of our neighbourhood,
0:02:32 > 0:02:34and a high pressure here across Scandinavia
0:02:34 > 0:02:36means these weather fronts
0:02:36 > 0:02:37can't actually nudge through.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39Well, they kind of do,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41but they fizzle away and then drift towards
0:02:41 > 0:02:43the north-west, so Scotland actually
0:02:43 > 0:02:45may get a little rain on Tuesday,
0:02:45 > 0:02:47but just how much is still uncertain.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49This is Tuesday night into Wednesday -
0:02:49 > 0:02:50that weather front dies a death,
0:02:50 > 0:02:52but more weather fronts try to come in,
0:02:52 > 0:02:54but again, they have a tendency
0:02:54 > 0:02:56to move towards the north-east.
0:02:56 > 0:02:57So Wednesday, again,
0:02:57 > 0:02:59predominantly dry and bright.
0:02:59 > 0:03:00Chilly morning, yes,
0:03:00 > 0:03:02but look at these temperatures -
0:03:02 > 0:03:04nothing to be sniffed at for this time of year.
0:03:04 > 0:03:0616 as far north as Newcastle.
0:03:06 > 0:03:08And then, most of next week,
0:03:08 > 0:03:09we are going to see
0:03:09 > 0:03:11that same pattern repeat itself -
0:03:11 > 0:03:12the kink in the jet stream
0:03:12 > 0:03:14keeping the low pressures
0:03:14 > 0:03:15out towards the Atlantic,
0:03:15 > 0:03:16high pressure here,
0:03:16 > 0:03:18stopping these weather fronts from coming in.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20So, like it or not,
0:03:20 > 0:03:21it is not looking bad at all -
0:03:21 > 0:03:22lots of dry weather,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24a risk of maybe a little bit of rain
0:03:24 > 0:03:26in the north-west of the country,
0:03:26 > 0:03:28but for most of us, it should be dry most of next week.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30Thanks for watching.
