0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. If you've been watching the news, you'll know the
0:00:04 > 0:00:08weather's making the headlines on the other side of the Atlantic,
0:00:08 > 0:00:09in the Caribbean.
0:00:09 > 0:00:12We have a very powerful hurricane, Hurricane Matthew,
0:00:12 > 0:00:14clearly visible on the satellite sequence.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16It's a category 4 storm, so it's a major hurricane.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18It's heading north in the next few days.
0:00:18 > 0:00:22It's going to bring a lot of trouble through the heart of the Caribbean.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25So that's one to keep an eye on in the next few days.
0:00:25 > 0:00:28Much quieter back on our shores for the second part of the weekend.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30We're in-between two weather systems.
0:00:30 > 0:00:32There may well be a bit of a fresh start,
0:00:32 > 0:00:34maybe even a touch of frost in the north and west of the UK and
0:00:34 > 0:00:37a bit of a breeze and a few early showers across East Anglia.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40But the showers fade away, the breeze eases down,
0:00:40 > 0:00:42and then most places are looking at a lovely day,
0:00:42 > 0:00:43lots of sunshine early on.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46A bit of patchy cloud will develop into the afternoon, but it's going
0:00:46 > 0:00:49to stay dry pretty much everywhere and the winds will be light.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51It should feel quite pleasant,
0:00:51 > 0:00:5314, 15 degrees for Glasgow and for Belfast,
0:00:53 > 0:00:5517 or 18 in the London area.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Then it should be a lovely evening across most
0:00:58 > 0:00:59parts, but we look towards the north and west,
0:00:59 > 0:01:01where the winds will be picking up and
0:01:01 > 0:01:04a line of cloud and some patchy rain tries to push into
0:01:04 > 0:01:05Northern Ireland but doesn't progress.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07Patchy rain in the north-west.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10A colder night further east, many towns and cities dipping into
0:01:10 > 0:01:13single figures, rural spots probably at the bottom end of single figures.
0:01:13 > 0:01:15So a chilly start to the day on Monday,
0:01:15 > 0:01:18but it's going to be another decent day for most parts of the UK.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21We've got these weather fronts trying to push in from the west,
0:01:21 > 0:01:23but they make very little progress eastwards,
0:01:23 > 0:01:25because they run into a big area of high pressure.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27But it is the north-west of the UK where the winds will pick up.
0:01:27 > 0:01:29Could get gale force later on in the day.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32And it looks as if it's really only the Western Isles that will see
0:01:32 > 0:01:34some light and some patchy rain on Monday.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36Elsewhere, it looks like another decent day
0:01:36 > 0:01:39with good spells of sunshine for many, and most places will be in
0:01:39 > 0:01:40the middle to upper teens,
0:01:40 > 0:01:43probably peaking in the south-east at around about 18 or 19.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46Now, the overall pressure pattern doesn't really change much.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48We've got weather fronts trying to push into that area of high
0:01:48 > 0:01:51pressure centred up over Scandinavia, but it's the
0:01:51 > 0:01:54high pressure which really wins out, keeps the weather fronts at bay.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57For the most part, Tuesday does look wetter for Northern Ireland.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Later on, that rain just pushes a little bit further eastwards,
0:02:00 > 0:02:03Western Wales, Western Scotland, maybe the north-west of England.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06The further east you are on Tuesday, it's another decent day.
0:02:06 > 0:02:08And then, through Tuesday night into Wednesday,
0:02:08 > 0:02:11our weather front tries to move northwards and eastwards,
0:02:11 > 0:02:13but it just get squeezed out, all the rain disappears as we get
0:02:13 > 0:02:17on into Wednesday, because the high-pressure systems just dominate.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19So, yes, a bit more cloud on Wednesday, dribs and drabs of
0:02:19 > 0:02:22rain towards the north-east, but most places will be fine and dry.
0:02:22 > 0:02:26And again, it's the middle to upper teens for most places.
0:02:26 > 0:02:29Through Wednesday night into Thursday, spot the difference.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31We've still got the high coming down from Scandinavia,
0:02:31 > 0:02:33influencing most of our weather,
0:02:33 > 0:02:36weather fronts trying to push into the north and the west,
0:02:36 > 0:02:37a bit of a breeze in the north and west again,
0:02:37 > 0:02:40and again there'll be at least some rain, Western Scotland, maybe into
0:02:40 > 0:02:44Northern Ireland, but elsewhere it looks like another fine and dry day.
0:02:44 > 0:02:46Those temperature might just creep down by a notch or two
0:02:46 > 0:02:49as that easterly wind begins to develop.
0:02:49 > 0:02:51And then, looking ahead, towards the end of the coming week, well,
0:02:51 > 0:02:53there's not much change.
0:02:53 > 0:02:54We've still got high pressure from
0:02:54 > 0:02:57Scandinavia and weather fronts trying to push their way into
0:02:57 > 0:02:59the north and west of the UK.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02They don't really make much progress ever eastwards, mainly because
0:03:02 > 0:03:07the jet stream is slipping its way south and then heading north again.
0:03:07 > 0:03:08When you've got the north-south jet stream,
0:03:08 > 0:03:11there's very little to push things from west to east.
0:03:11 > 0:03:12You need a west-to-east jet stream,
0:03:12 > 0:03:15but we might just see that developing later on.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17But most of this coming week is going to be a pretty decent
0:03:17 > 0:03:20one for most places, with maybe some early-morning mist but
0:03:20 > 0:03:23a lot of fine weather by afternoons.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25Later on in the week, we might just begin to see
0:03:25 > 0:03:28rain developing as that west-to-east jet stream develops. Bye for now.
0:03:31 > 0:03:32Watch this. It is amazing.
