0:00:03 > 0:00:06Thanks for tuning in. Let's check the weather for the next week or so.

0:00:06 > 0:00:07And in the short term,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10there's not actually going to be an awful lot of change.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12That is for the next 24 hours or so.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15It will be a mix of weather, some lovely sunshine,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17just like over the weekend, and also some shower clouds,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19a beautiful picture here of a cumulonimbus cloud,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21you can even see a hint of a rainbow

0:00:21 > 0:00:22in that rain streak.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25But I think the main message is easterly winds, east or

0:00:25 > 0:00:28north-easterly winds will continue, a bit like over the last 24 hours.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30This is the radar, showing the showers,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32you can see them coming in.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34They haven't been penetrating very deep inland but as we go

0:00:34 > 0:00:37through the course of the week we'll start to see those showers

0:00:37 > 0:00:38coming in a little but further.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41There will be more of them, we will see increasing winds and it

0:00:41 > 0:00:44will start to feel a little bit cooler.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46But in the small hours of Monday morning,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49most of the showers are still confined to these eastern areas.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Inlands dry, and cool, if not cold.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54In fact, in rural spots - really nippy.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Frost hollows, the sort of typical areas where

0:00:57 > 0:00:59we get the temperatures dipping, that sort of thing,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02around about zero degrees if not a few degrees below freezing,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05particularly across Scotland. Now, you'll notice even

0:01:05 > 0:01:07the potential for one or two thunderstorms. Now, this is

0:01:07 > 0:01:12moisture coming in off the North Sea, on an east/north-easterly wind.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Some of these showers will be quite heavy, a real soaking.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18But most of us at any one time, should actually have a decent

0:01:18 > 0:01:21amount of sunshine. Temperatures will typically be around about

0:01:21 > 0:01:2413 to 15 degrees Celsius. Now, this high,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27you can just about see it there, it's across Scandinavia,

0:01:27 > 0:01:30it is dominating our weather. This low is trying to come in.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31We'll talk about that in a second -

0:01:31 > 0:01:34off Newfoundland, that's the remnants of Matthew,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37used to be Hurricane Matthew, not any more.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40So, easterly winds, I think, will be the main theme

0:01:40 > 0:01:44for most of this week. Best of the weather on Tuesday

0:01:44 > 0:01:46still across many western areas of the UK.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Still those showers coming in, in fact, probably by the time

0:01:49 > 0:01:52we get to Tuesday, a little bit more than just showers,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54big clumps of cloud coming in off the North Sea,

0:01:54 > 0:01:58so quite cloudy, gloomy and chilly, with some rain on and off

0:01:58 > 0:02:00across these eastern areas and these showers are caught

0:02:00 > 0:02:03around the bottom periphery of this high pressure.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05Now, look at these isobars, very straight.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08When we get straight isobars - I was talking about this yesterday,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11we get strong winds as well, so the more curved the isobars are,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13the lighter the winds can be.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17So straight winds coming out of the east or the north-east

0:02:17 > 0:02:20bringing further showers and cloudy conditions to some of these

0:02:20 > 0:02:23eastern areas and actually increasing winds through Thursday

0:02:23 > 0:02:25and these bits and pieces of rain will move a little bit

0:02:25 > 0:02:30further into western parts of the UK, as well, and feeling colder

0:02:30 > 0:02:33and colder, 10 or 11 degrees. I think on that North Sea coast

0:02:33 > 0:02:35it won't feel very pleasant. Now, the remnants of these tropical

0:02:35 > 0:02:38weather systems will be playing a part in how our weather behaves.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42Sort of starts to impact on how the low pressures start to behave

0:02:42 > 0:02:44closer to the UK.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Too much detail to go into in this short weather report.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50I think, suffice to say, there should be a low pressure developing

0:02:50 > 0:02:53to the south of the country, probably south and

0:02:53 > 0:02:56south-western areas at risk of getting the heaviest of the rain.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Normally, it should be the other way round,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01we should have a high pressure down here, low pressure to the north,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04closer to Iceland, and these sort of milder Westerlies

0:03:04 > 0:03:07but that's just not happening. By next weekend, we still have that

0:03:07 > 0:03:10low to the south, high pressure to the north

0:03:10 > 0:03:12and in between, if you imagine these are corkscrews,

0:03:12 > 0:03:16we get those easterly winds. So, let's summarise all of that -

0:03:16 > 0:03:20it is all about easterly winds this week. Increasing showers

0:03:20 > 0:03:22and that cloud coming in off the North Sea.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25And obviously, when you get these two things, it is going to feel

0:03:25 > 0:03:28on the chilly side, so kind of autumn is here

0:03:28 > 0:03:29but sort of the other way round.
