0:00:04 > 0:00:06Hello. Before we delve into a fairly chilly week of weather,

0:00:06 > 0:00:09let me show you a few Weather Watchers' shots from Monday,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11because they reveal an unusual phenomenon.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14These are fallstreak, or punch hole, clouds,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16formed in layers altocumulus cloud.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19They're usually made up of water droplets, but with aircraft

0:00:19 > 0:00:23passing through them, it disturbed the air around a bit too much

0:00:23 > 0:00:25and with a few extra particles in the atmosphere,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28those water droplets froze, and as they froze, they got

0:00:28 > 0:00:30heavier and fell from the sky,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32but certainly provided a welcome distraction from

0:00:32 > 0:00:35what was a rather cool start to the week.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38High-pressure dominant across Scandinavia,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40stopping Atlantic weather fronts going in,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43but feeling cool, 13, 14 Celsius.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45Just look upstream,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47temperatures were much, much lower.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50We won't see temperatures like that through this week,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52because the easterly winds are pushing across

0:00:52 > 0:00:55warming waters, 11 to 17 degrees,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57the North Sea temperatures.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00But as that cool air pushes across one warm waters,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02it's like a pan of water on the stove.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05We see clouds bubble up, shower clouds at that,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08and that's why we're seeing showers across eastern areas

0:01:08 > 0:01:10pushed westwards on the breeze.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11What you will notice on Tuesday,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14not as much sunshine, a lot more cloud around.

0:01:14 > 0:01:15It is to the south and the west

0:01:15 > 0:01:18where we continue with the sunniest skies

0:01:18 > 0:01:19after a frosty start.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21With the wind starting to strengthen,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23it will probably feel that bit cooler.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26That high deflects low-pressure systems

0:01:26 > 0:01:27away from us,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29one pushing down towards Iberia,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31which will have a greater influence

0:01:31 > 0:01:32later in the week.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34High pressure dominates on Wednesday,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36still feeding shower clouds into eastern areas,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38as that increasingly stronger wind

0:01:38 > 0:01:41pushes across the warm North Sea.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43The showers will get further westwards,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45but still some sunny spells.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Many will spend the bulk, if not all, the day dry.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Best place for that will be in the west.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52With the strengthening wind, it'll feel much like

0:01:52 > 0:01:55single-figure temperatures, rather than double-figure ones.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57So, high pressure towards the north,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59low pressure coming towards the south,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02starting to have more of an influence by Thursday.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03As they get closer,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05the winds get stronger and stronger,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and it feels that bit colder still.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Weather-wise, still showers in the east

0:02:09 > 0:02:12pushing westwards on the strength of that wind.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15A bit of sunshine in between the showers,

0:02:15 > 0:02:16best of which in the west.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Sunshine becomes more of a premium

0:02:18 > 0:02:20as we head into Friday,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23as our low-pressure system works its way northwards.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25The low starts to have more influence

0:02:25 > 0:02:27to the end of the week than the high.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28The strongest winds

0:02:28 > 0:02:30across the northern half of the country.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Rain, initially across the south,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35spreading across central and eastern England

0:02:35 > 0:02:38towards northern England and south-west Scotland.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40As we go into the weekend,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42it's that low-pressure system

0:02:42 > 0:02:44circulating towards the south-west

0:02:44 > 0:02:46which has the biggest influence.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48The winds will be light.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50It will be less chilly in the sunnier moments,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53but there will be showers and longer spells of rain.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Showers across eastern Scotland,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57north-eastern England push their way westwards,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58a bit of sunshine,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00but winds could touch gale force.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04The reason we're still not seeing any mobile change to conditions

0:03:04 > 0:03:06is that high pressure deflecting the jet stream to the north,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09low pressure stranded towards the south as we go into next week,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12so rain towards the south, brighter further north,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14but still with those strong and cold east winds.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16For a change, we have to look to the western side of the Atlantic.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19This area of cloud we thought could bring a change.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21It's the remnants of Hurricane Matthew.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23That'll head towards Greenland.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Instead, we'll be watching this one, tropical storm Nicole,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28set to become a hurricane and push towards Bermuda.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Maybe THAT will influence our weather next week.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32I'll keep you updated.
