0:00:03 > 0:00:04With weather patterns in the west of Europe

0:00:04 > 0:00:07fairly blocked at the moment, in that they're not changing

0:00:07 > 0:00:09in a hurry, we've been turning our attention

0:00:09 > 0:00:10over the past week to the western Atlantic,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12to see how that may influence things.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Our latest thing to watch out for is this -

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Hurricane Nicole.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Strengthened during the latter stages of Tuesday

0:00:18 > 0:00:19to hurricane status.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Could hit Bermuda on Thursday with

0:00:21 > 0:00:22winds in excess of 100mph,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25dangerous surf and torrential rain.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27From then on, it looks like it'll push its way

0:00:27 > 0:00:28northwards into the north-west Atlantic,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30where it might actually meander

0:00:30 > 0:00:31as we go into the weekend,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33and in hanging around here,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35it won't have any direct influence

0:00:35 > 0:00:37to our weather, but into the latter stages

0:00:37 > 0:00:39of next week, it may strengthen

0:00:39 > 0:00:40the weather patterns enough -

0:00:40 > 0:00:42the Jet Stream, that is - to push these areas

0:00:42 > 0:00:44of high and low pressure out of the way.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46This is what we've got at the moment.

0:00:46 > 0:00:47High pressure stuck across Scandinavia

0:00:47 > 0:00:49and, starting to come onto the scene,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51this area of low pressure across Iberia.

0:00:51 > 0:00:52Far away enough at the moment,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54so for Wednesday, high pressure dominant,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55easterly winds,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57bringng occasional showers, lots of cloud

0:00:57 > 0:00:59into eastern parts of the country.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01One or two showers further west,

0:01:01 > 0:01:02but some good breaks in the cloud,

0:01:02 > 0:01:03some sunshine at times.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05You'll notice, southern counties of England,

0:01:05 > 0:01:06a lot cloudier - round the coast,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08could be heavy showers.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09Windiest conditions in the south.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Winds generally picking up UK-wide

0:01:11 > 0:01:13by this stage, as an area of high pressure

0:01:13 > 0:01:15sits across Scandinavia,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17and the low pressure starts to get closer to it.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Closer they are, the stronger the winds tend to be.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22And so a breezier day for all on Thursday,

0:01:22 > 0:01:23and quite a cool breeze at that.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Like we'll have seen on Wednesday,

0:01:25 > 0:01:26cloud mainly to the east

0:01:26 > 0:01:28with occasional rain but that will

0:01:28 > 0:01:30push its way westwards, slightly greater chance

0:01:30 > 0:01:32of a few showers on Thursday.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33Probably driest weather

0:01:33 > 0:01:34across southern England and Wales,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36the best of the sunshine.

0:01:36 > 0:01:37But wherever you are, for some,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39temperatures struggling to get into double figures -

0:01:39 > 0:01:41add on the effect of the wind,

0:01:41 > 0:01:42probably the coolest-feeling day of the week.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45That will continue across northern areas on Friday.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47On the northern flank of this area of low pressure,

0:01:47 > 0:01:48the winds will be stronger -

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52You'll notice the low pressure

0:01:52 > 0:01:54is coming more into play by Friday.

0:01:54 > 0:01:55So, some longer spells of rain pushing

0:01:55 > 0:01:56into Wales, the south-west,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58potentially across Ireland, too.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Something drier at times for the east,

0:02:00 > 0:02:01but lots of cloud around,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03and a real bite to that wind

0:02:03 > 0:02:05as it pushes in, touching gale force

0:02:05 > 0:02:06at times in the north.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Now, by Saturday and the weekend,

0:02:08 > 0:02:09look how the low pressure

0:02:09 > 0:02:11is the main, dominant feature of our weather

0:02:11 > 0:02:12to the south-west of the UK.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Winds revolving around - still strongest

0:02:14 > 0:02:16across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18northern England, fairly cloudy, here.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19Longer spells of rain

0:02:19 > 0:02:20pushing in towards the east.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22Brighter weather through England and Wales,

0:02:22 > 0:02:23though, further south,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25in-between slow-moving, heavy and thundery showers.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Winds a bit lighter for the time being,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29and it does feel a little bit warmer.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31That low-pressure system pushes the west of Ireland

0:02:31 > 0:02:32into Sunday, does mean the winds pick up

0:02:32 > 0:02:34across England and Wales,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36but it's a southerly wind, get a bit of sunshine,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38feeling reasonably nice, there.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40But showers possible just about anywhere in the UK,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41some heavy and thundery,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44and plenty of low clouds across eastern districts

0:02:44 > 0:02:47of Scotland and north-east England.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49So, we finish the weekend, going into next week

0:02:49 > 0:02:51with, still, a blocked pattern.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54The Jet Stream is strengthening across to North America,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56but it splits, and so it doesn't really shift

0:02:56 > 0:02:58the high pressure we have to the north,

0:02:58 > 0:02:59and what we then have

0:02:59 > 0:03:01is low pressure to the west of the UK.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03So, into next week, with things slow-moving,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05low pressure there, expect further cloud,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08outbreaks of rain at times just about anywhere,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09quite breezy with that, too,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11although there will be drier and brighter moments.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13How it feels in those drier, brighter moments

0:03:13 > 0:03:15depends on when the low pressure sits.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17If it's to the west, we drag in our air from the south,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19in a slightly warmer direction.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21If that low-pressure system moves to the north,

0:03:21 > 0:03:22we drag in our air off the Atlantic.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23It will feel a little cooler.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25That's the main uncertainty for next week,

0:03:25 > 0:03:26then, by the end of the week,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28whether the Jet Stream strengthens enough

0:03:28 > 0:03:30to clear that low-pressure system away.
