0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. You may have heard on the news
0:00:04 > 0:00:05that a major hurricane passed
0:00:05 > 0:00:08close by to Bermuda during the day on Thursday,
0:00:08 > 0:00:12packing winds in excess of 100 miles an hour, so the biggest one,
0:00:12 > 0:00:15the most major hurricane, we've seen to this close to Bermuda
0:00:15 > 0:00:16in about 13 years.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18Why am I talking about this?
0:00:18 > 0:00:18Although it's not heading
0:00:18 > 0:00:20for our shores, it will impact
0:00:20 > 0:00:22somewhat in our weather.
0:00:22 > 0:00:24It'll throw, if you like,
0:00:24 > 0:00:25and interesting twist
0:00:25 > 0:00:26into the computer models.
0:00:26 > 0:00:27Let's come back
0:00:27 > 0:00:28to what's happening here in the UK now
0:00:28 > 0:00:30where we've had that easterly wind
0:00:30 > 0:00:32for so long now and it's a really chilly wind
0:00:32 > 0:00:34throwing lots more showers into the north.
0:00:34 > 0:00:35The lack of wind Friday morning
0:00:35 > 0:00:37in the south means an early frost
0:00:37 > 0:00:38and patchy fog potentially,
0:00:38 > 0:00:40but here a lot of dry and settled weather
0:00:40 > 0:00:41before rain comes
0:00:41 > 0:00:42into the south-west later
0:00:42 > 0:00:44and indeed the south-east.
0:00:44 > 0:00:45We're starting to lose the easterly wind
0:00:45 > 0:00:46in the south, so it'll start
0:00:46 > 0:00:48to feel less cold,
0:00:48 > 0:00:49but it's going to be another day or two
0:00:49 > 0:00:51that it's with us across
0:00:51 > 0:00:52the northern half of the country.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54We've got rain coming into the south-east
0:00:54 > 0:00:55through Friday evening,
0:00:55 > 0:00:56slipping its way northwards,
0:00:56 > 0:00:57really intensifying wet weather
0:00:57 > 0:00:59for eastern Scotland and heavy showers
0:00:59 > 0:01:01moving into the south and west.
0:01:01 > 0:01:02So there are warnings in force,
0:01:02 > 0:01:04do check the website,
0:01:04 > 0:01:05but it might be that we're seeing
0:01:05 > 0:01:06those downpours in western areas,
0:01:06 > 0:01:08but central and eastern areas
0:01:08 > 0:01:10have a pretty decent day on Saturday.
0:01:10 > 0:01:11We've lost the easterly wind,
0:01:11 > 0:01:13it'll feel quite warm, 16 to 18,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15but not across Scotland where we've got that -
0:01:15 > 0:01:17certainly northern Scotland -
0:01:17 > 0:01:19that easterly wind at near gale force
0:01:19 > 0:01:21and those heavy showers in the south and west,
0:01:21 > 0:01:23which then become more frequent
0:01:23 > 0:01:25and indeed more widespread as we move
0:01:25 > 0:01:28into Sunday across the rest of England and Wales.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30That weather front is moving out
0:01:30 > 0:01:31of the way of Scotland,
0:01:31 > 0:01:33so we lose that nagging easterly wind here
0:01:33 > 0:01:34at long last and perhaps
0:01:34 > 0:01:37some drier weather Sunday but, as you can see,
0:01:37 > 0:01:39showers are in the forecast elsewhere,
0:01:39 > 0:01:40not all the time,
0:01:40 > 0:01:42but there will be some really intense downpours.
0:01:42 > 0:01:43And that low pressure,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45well, that hangs around for some time
0:01:45 > 0:01:47as we move into the new part of the week.
0:01:47 > 0:01:48You can see high pressure
0:01:48 > 0:01:50just trying to nudge in and behind me Nicole.
0:01:50 > 0:01:51But we'll come back to that.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53Monday looks like another day
0:01:53 > 0:01:54of sunny spells and showers.
0:01:54 > 0:01:56There's that rain moving away to the north,
0:01:56 > 0:01:58more showers coming into the west,
0:01:58 > 0:01:59some sunshine in between,
0:01:59 > 0:02:01lighter winds, so feeling quite pleasant,
0:02:01 > 0:02:0414 to 18 potentially, and it's October.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06Now, by the end of Tuesday,
0:02:06 > 0:02:09we've changed air streams again,
0:02:09 > 0:02:10so we've lost that southerly wind
0:02:10 > 0:02:12and we pick up the Atlantic north-westerly,
0:02:12 > 0:02:14so it will start to feel cooler again.
0:02:14 > 0:02:15So we've got that band
0:02:15 > 0:02:16of really quite intense showery rain
0:02:16 > 0:02:19moving through and then sunny spells,
0:02:19 > 0:02:21but only 12s and 13s generally,
0:02:21 > 0:02:22perhaps 16 in London,
0:02:22 > 0:02:24just because we started the day
0:02:24 > 0:02:26with that warmer air.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28And then it's all to play for, really,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30as we go to the latter part of the week.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32There's that low pressure moving away,
0:02:32 > 0:02:33high pressure starting to build in
0:02:33 > 0:02:35and Nicole just throwing
0:02:35 > 0:02:36that warm air northwards,
0:02:36 > 0:02:38so it will interrupt
0:02:38 > 0:02:39the jet stream -
0:02:39 > 0:02:41that's the fast-moving ribbon of air
0:02:41 > 0:02:43in the upper atmosphere
0:02:43 > 0:02:45that that drives our weather systems in.
0:02:45 > 0:02:46So the low pressure slowly migrates
0:02:46 > 0:02:48a little bit further north early next week.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51The high-pressure moving into southern areas,
0:02:51 > 0:02:52a lot of dry and settled weather.
0:02:52 > 0:02:53We saw the warmth coming through
0:02:53 > 0:02:54earlier in the week,
0:02:54 > 0:02:56but there will be
0:02:56 > 0:02:57some chilly nights, that said.
0:02:57 > 0:03:00That's because our jet stream at that stage is throwing those
0:03:00 > 0:03:02low pressures across the northern half of the country.
0:03:02 > 0:03:06However, we've got Nicole sitting out in the Atlantic,
0:03:06 > 0:03:07a fly in the ointment,
0:03:07 > 0:03:10causing us a little bit of a headache and it looks at this stage
0:03:10 > 0:03:12as if she'll buckle that jet steam and allow low pressures
0:03:12 > 0:03:15to move northwards, but build high-pressure in across the UK
0:03:15 > 0:03:18but there's just the chance with that northerly
0:03:18 > 0:03:21that we'll see low pressure moving into eastern areas
0:03:21 > 0:03:22and those could give us
0:03:22 > 0:03:24some quite wet weather here.
0:03:24 > 0:03:26So some uncertainty later in the week,
0:03:26 > 0:03:27but it does look as if we'll see
0:03:27 > 0:03:29some fine days in the south
0:03:29 > 0:03:30and some chilly nights.
