0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello, there. On Wednesday, many parts of the UK

0:00:03 > 0:00:05started to see the weather calm down once again.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08A lot of dry weather around, a fair bit of sunshine at times too,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11but it was a different story on the east coast of England once again.

0:00:11 > 0:00:12These high seas

0:00:12 > 0:00:14captured by our weather watchers

0:00:14 > 0:00:15whipped up in Scarborough

0:00:15 > 0:00:17and on the north Norfolk coast

0:00:17 > 0:00:19in Cromer, battering the pier here.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20Strong to gale-force winds, in fact,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22through the day, frequent showers,

0:00:22 > 0:00:23especially later in the day.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25It's all caused by this area of low pressure.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27That's going to just linger around

0:00:27 > 0:00:29to the southeast over the next couple of days,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31but it's really high pressure dominating for most,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33which means more in the way of cool,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35at times frosty nights, as we'll see,

0:00:35 > 0:00:36to start Thursday morning,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38but a lot of dry, bright weather by day.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40The mist clears, lots of sunshine.

0:00:40 > 0:00:41Lighter winds compared with Wednesday,

0:00:41 > 0:00:44so many western areas may feel a little bit warmer,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46even though the temperatures are nothing to write home about.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48There will be varying amounts of cloud

0:00:48 > 0:00:50across England and eastern Wales in particular

0:00:50 > 0:00:51through the day.

0:00:51 > 0:00:52Just threatening the odd isolated shower.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Greatest chance of showers remain down eastern parts,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56closest to that area of low pressure.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Here the breeze is at its strongest,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59but even that a little bit lighter

0:00:59 > 0:01:00than it was on Wednesday afternoon.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02Still remains, that breeze in place

0:01:02 > 0:01:04as we go through Thursday night into Friday,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06a few coastal showers. But at the same time,

0:01:06 > 0:01:07you'll also notice a bit more cloud

0:01:07 > 0:01:09in Northern Ireland, Western Scotland.

0:01:09 > 0:01:10Outbreaks of rain spreading here.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13In between, though, away from towns and cities,

0:01:13 > 0:01:14clear skies, some mist

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and a chance of frost once again.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18That's because here you're under that little area

0:01:18 > 0:01:20of high pressure. Either side of it,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22we've got some weather fronts to the northwest of the UK.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23Still that low pressure.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Becoming less dominant, but still noticeable

0:01:25 > 0:01:27towards the southeast of the country,

0:01:27 > 0:01:28so I'm afraid East Anglia, southeast,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30still the chance of one or two showers,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32and still that breeze.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33Most, though, light winds.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34Pleasant enough in the afternoon sunshine,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36once morning mist and fog has cleared.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Rain, though, will linger throughout the day.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Highlands and Islands of Scotland especially.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Temperatures, generally speaking,

0:01:42 > 0:01:44not far off what we'll see on Thursday,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46which takes us into the weekend.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Well, what we have at the moment is some very warm air

0:01:48 > 0:01:49to the east of the United States.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51That will help to fire up a strong jet steam.

0:01:51 > 0:01:52The blocking high, though,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55splits that jet stream in two as it approaches us.

0:01:55 > 0:01:56It's the southern portion,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58the strongest portion, which is of interest,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00because it starts to develop this area of low pressure.

0:02:00 > 0:02:01As that develops,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03an easterly wind develops for the UK,

0:02:03 > 0:02:04as that low pressure

0:02:04 > 0:02:06squeezes against the high in Scandinavia.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07Like we saw the other week,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09easterly winds will start to dominate.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10It's getting colder and colder,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12that easterly wind, as we go through Saturday.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Still a few showers down the east.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Most of the places, though, dry and bright.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Best of the sunshine the further west you are.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19But the breeze picks up even further

0:02:19 > 0:02:20as that low pressure deepens,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22more in the Bay of Biscay,

0:02:22 > 0:02:23and edges closer towards us.

0:02:23 > 0:02:24So expect more cloud.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26The showers, across eastern areas to begin with,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28will get that little bit further west.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Many western areas still dry and bright at this stage,

0:02:30 > 0:02:34but just notice, creeping closer, the threat of some rain.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36This probably opens up the biggest uncertainty

0:02:36 > 0:02:37through the forecast period -

0:02:37 > 0:02:39just whether this low pressure system,

0:02:39 > 0:02:40as it clears away,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42throws any weather fronts in our direction.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44So Monday's forecast,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46probably the most uncertain at the moment.

0:02:46 > 0:02:47We've still got an easterly wind

0:02:47 > 0:02:48whichever way you look at it.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Western areas, particularly northwest,

0:02:50 > 0:02:51probably driest and brightest,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54but that chance of rain pushing in towards the south.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58If we look at the star of next week, we've got that low pressure clearing

0:02:58 > 0:03:01away to the south, but still the risks of those weather fronts.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03But all computer models are starting to show signs

0:03:03 > 0:03:05that that will actually go away through the week.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08So, as we progress through the week, this high pressure dominates.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Its position changes, though, pushes further south,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13so England and Wales most likely to be dry and bright by day,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16but some overnight mist, some fog and some frost.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Then, as the jet stream strengthens further out of North America,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21we could start to see things starting to turn back

0:03:21 > 0:03:24to low pressure in the northwest, which brings the greatest threat

0:03:24 > 0:03:27of rain later next week, to northern and western parts of Scotland.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30We'll keep you updated, of course, over the coming days.
