0:00:00 > 0:00:01Hello again.

0:00:01 > 0:00:04The shape and the position of the jetstream will be crucial

0:00:04 > 0:00:07in determining our weather patterns over the next ten days.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09We'll see that a little later.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12The next few days, though, will see some changes.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13After a chilly start to the week,

0:00:13 > 0:00:16temperatures will be rising day and night.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19We will be seeing some stronger westerly winds developing,

0:00:19 > 0:00:23but as we will see, it is not going to bring much rain at all.

0:00:23 > 0:00:24We start cold, frosty,

0:00:24 > 0:00:27potentially with some fog across northern

0:00:27 > 0:00:28parts of the UK on Tuesday.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Milder, but damp and dreary in the south.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34The rain and drizzle in the south peters out.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35Sunnier skies will continue

0:00:35 > 0:00:38to be across northern parts of the UK.

0:00:38 > 0:00:39With little wind in Scotland,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Northern Ireland and northern England,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43it should be a lovely day.

0:00:43 > 0:00:44Showers along the east coast of Scotland

0:00:44 > 0:00:47are moving away because the wind direction is changing.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49It'll take a while to get the sun out,

0:00:49 > 0:00:50possibly through the Midlands, Wales,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52southern England.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54The afternoon will be drier, the cloud should lift.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Skies will brighten. If you're lucky,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58especially along the south coast,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59you may get a glimpse of the sun.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01But it is in the cloudier skies in the south

0:01:01 > 0:01:03that we'll find the highest temperatures.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Now, temperatures across the north

0:01:05 > 0:01:07will not really drop very much on Tuesday night.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10That is because the first change comes in,

0:01:10 > 0:01:11you get these westerly winds,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13increasing amounts of cloud,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and in the north-west, some outbreaks of rain.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Still dry but rather cloudy further south.

0:01:18 > 0:01:19Any breaks in the cloud

0:01:19 > 0:01:21and there will be some patchy mist and fog.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Here, the winds are lighter,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24you can see more isobars on the chart

0:01:24 > 0:01:26for the northern half of the UK on Wednesday,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28together with that weather front.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29That front is very weak,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31not bringing much rain at all.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33The rain tends to peter out, actually,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35as the weather front moves into England and Wales.

0:01:35 > 0:01:36The south-east still dry.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38More in the way of cloud, though,

0:01:38 > 0:01:39we will see some stronger winds

0:01:39 > 0:01:41across many northern areas.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Gusty to the east of high ground.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45And it will be milder as well, across the board,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47temperatures will be higher during the day.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50A significant change for the northern half of the UK.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52That weather pattern continues on Thursday.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53Again, the chance of some rain,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56mainly over the hills in the north-west.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59Staying dry with lighter winds to the south.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Temperatures near or above average.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04So, more isobars for northern parts of the UK,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06fewer in the south, lighter winds,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09higher pressure across many southern areas

0:02:09 > 0:02:10to end the week as well.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12We've got a little rain, maybe, to come

0:02:12 > 0:02:14across Northern Ireland

0:02:14 > 0:02:16into Western Scotland during the day on Friday.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18But away from here, I think it may well be dry.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Limited amount of sunshine,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22but decent temperatures once again.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23We are finding this high pressure

0:02:23 > 0:02:26is starting to build across the UK by the end of the week,

0:02:26 > 0:02:27in time for the weekend.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30That will tend to push away these weather fronts

0:02:30 > 0:02:33towards the north-west, take the rain away too,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35up towards the Northern Isles of Scotland, perhaps.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Many other areas will be dry,

0:02:37 > 0:02:38a little sunshine at times,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40but still those temperatures,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42pretty good for the time of year.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46Let's look at the jetstream, though, over the next ten days.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49We start midweek with this zonal jetstream,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51running from West to East, very strong jet.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54North of it, lower pressure, cooler air -

0:02:54 > 0:02:56south of it, higher pressure and milder air.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Things change, though, by the weekend,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01high pressure builds in, we get a buckling of the jetstream,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04and this is the sort of position we are expecting,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07that will steer the rain up towards the north-west.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11Things move on, though, into next week, the start of the new month.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14This is the expected position of the jetstream,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17so we are into the colder air across the eastern side of the UK,

0:03:17 > 0:03:21more of a northerly wind could bring some sunshine and showers

0:03:21 > 0:03:25out towards the west, maybe just about in the milder air,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27closer to the area of high pressure.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Goodbye.
