0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Like it or loathe it, one of the main facts

0:00:04 > 0:00:06about the British weather is its variability.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08It doesn't stay the same for very long and evidence

0:00:08 > 0:00:10of the next three and a half minutes of this forecast

0:00:10 > 0:00:12going into next week covers nearly

0:00:12 > 0:00:13all four compass points

0:00:13 > 0:00:16in terms of our wind direction and where our weather is coming from.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18For a lot of October so far,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21it's been an easterly, a cool feel down the eastern side of the UK

0:00:21 > 0:00:24and there have been plenty of showers around, but a change for

0:00:24 > 0:00:28the rest of the week, we're going from easterly to a westerly.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31It's a milder direction for us and there's another change next week.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Will it be northerly

0:00:33 > 0:00:35or southerly? All will be revealed.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37But this is the effect of the westerly

0:00:37 > 0:00:38for Wednesday around

0:00:38 > 0:00:39this area of high pressure -

0:00:39 > 0:00:41not just milder,

0:00:41 > 0:00:42but it does bring back

0:00:42 > 0:00:44some Atlantic weather front our way.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45The first of those will bring

0:00:45 > 0:00:47some outbreaks of rain on Wednesday

0:00:47 > 0:00:50for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52England and Wales looking mainly dry

0:00:52 > 0:00:53but closer to high pressure

0:00:53 > 0:00:54in southern England

0:00:54 > 0:00:55where the winds are light,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57some patchy, dense fog around

0:00:57 > 0:00:58to start the day gradually clearing

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and then some sunny spells into the afternoon

0:01:00 > 0:01:01and brightening up too.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03The other side of the weather front

0:01:03 > 0:01:05eventually for Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:01:05 > 0:01:06as the day goes on.

0:01:06 > 0:01:07And it will be feeling mild,

0:01:07 > 0:01:08particularly if we get some sunshine.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11That's where temperatures will stay

0:01:11 > 0:01:13for the rest of the week by day and night mild,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15only limited possibilities for frost.

0:01:15 > 0:01:16Now by Thursday, it looks like

0:01:16 > 0:01:18there's another weather front

0:01:18 > 0:01:19coming our way on that westerly flow.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21And that will be threatening Northern Ireland

0:01:21 > 0:01:23but particularly north-western Scotland

0:01:23 > 0:01:25with some outbreaks of rain and notice

0:01:25 > 0:01:27a fairly brisk wind as well.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Elsewhere, the winds are lighter,

0:01:29 > 0:01:30could well be a lot of cloud around

0:01:30 > 0:01:32and again the risk of some mist and fog

0:01:32 > 0:01:34to start the day in southern England

0:01:34 > 0:01:37on Thursday and those are your temperatures,

0:01:37 > 0:01:38easily into the teens.

0:01:38 > 0:01:39And little change by Friday,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41although it looks like this area

0:01:41 > 0:01:43of high pressure is just beginning

0:01:43 > 0:01:46to nudge its way to little bit further north,

0:01:46 > 0:01:47expand across the UK,

0:01:47 > 0:01:48it looks like this weather front

0:01:48 > 0:01:51will push back northwards as it does so.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Not a huge amount of rain left on it.

0:01:53 > 0:01:54Some of us may well see some patchy rain

0:01:54 > 0:01:56in parts of Northern Ireland,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58western Scotland and north-west England.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Lot of cloud around again

0:02:00 > 0:02:01and again, there could be some mist and fog

0:02:01 > 0:02:04to start the day in southern England on Friday.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Now by the start of the weekend,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08that high pressure really has expanded

0:02:08 > 0:02:09to cover much of the UK,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11so most places, if rather cloudy,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13are looking dry to start the weekend.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Again, there could be some fog

0:02:15 > 0:02:16around to begin the day.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17Bit of a change for part two

0:02:17 > 0:02:19of the weekend on Sunday,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21high pressure beginning to retreat

0:02:21 > 0:02:23a little bit, allowing an Atlantic weather front

0:02:23 > 0:02:24to come in and it looks like

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Northern Ireland parts of Scotland,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28freshening wind once again

0:02:28 > 0:02:29and some of us on Sunday could be

0:02:29 > 0:02:31dealing with some rain

0:02:31 > 0:02:32so I'll keep you updated on that

0:02:32 > 0:02:33if you've got outdoor plans

0:02:33 > 0:02:35and that takes us into next week.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37And I teased another weather change

0:02:37 > 0:02:38on the point on the compass,

0:02:38 > 0:02:39another different direction

0:02:39 > 0:02:41for our weather to come from

0:02:41 > 0:02:42and this is the big picture

0:02:42 > 0:02:43at the start of next week.

0:02:43 > 0:02:44You can ignore this, looks like

0:02:44 > 0:02:45it'll pull away southwards.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48In fact we need to look north, the high pressure close to Greenland

0:02:48 > 0:02:51to low pressure in Scandinavia and the flow of air

0:02:51 > 0:02:55around these weather systems, well, that brings a northerly our way

0:02:55 > 0:02:57and colder air poised

0:02:57 > 0:02:59to spread south as the week goes on.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01Now there's still a lot to play for

0:03:01 > 0:03:02in terms of timing,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04how far south that colder air will get,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06how long it will stick around,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08but we can expect during next week

0:03:08 > 0:03:12for many of us a change to more seasonal weather as it turns colder.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13Sunshine and showers

0:03:13 > 0:03:15and further north you are in Britain

0:03:15 > 0:03:16you may see some snow

0:03:16 > 0:03:17out of those showers,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19particularly of course

0:03:19 > 0:03:20on higher ground.

0:03:20 > 0:03:21So we've gone from easterly

0:03:21 > 0:03:23to westerly to northerly.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Well, if you're hoping for a change

0:03:25 > 0:03:26to warm southerly winds,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28oh, come on, it's autumn.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30You might have to wait a while.

0:03:31 > 0:03:32Marlon James has been labelled a troublemaker

0:03:32 > 0:03:36for his novels exploring Jamaica's violent past,

0:03:36 > 0:03:39but the real threat was to come from his own personal demons.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Whether it was in a plane or a coffin,

0:03:41 > 0:03:43I knew I had to get out of Jamaica.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45The Seven Killings of Marlon James -

0:03:45 > 0:03:47an Imagine special.
