0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. October can be a curious month for weather.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06Sometimes it goes against expectations.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08We're reaching the peak of autumn -

0:00:08 > 0:00:10you might expect deeper areas of low pressure,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12storms that bring the leaves down -

0:00:12 > 0:00:14but sometimes the opposite can happen.

0:00:14 > 0:00:15It all get rather quiet.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18Temperatures go up, not down, helped where you get some sunshine.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20Many of us saw that during Wednesday,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23lifting the temperature to near 20 Celsius in late October,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26that is of course well above the average.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29And that's where temperatures are staying by day and night

0:00:29 > 0:00:30for many of us over the next few days.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Low pressure to the north of us, high pressure to the south of us,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35the flow of air around those weather systems

0:00:35 > 0:00:37bringing that air in from the Atlantic.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40That's a mild direction. Nothing changing any time soon,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43in fact we'll waft this mild air across us all through the weekend,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45even into the start of next week.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48We've had some mild Halloweens, even warm ones, in recent years.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51What's Monday? Halloween. It looks like another mild one.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Indications of colder air lurking to the north of the UK,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57and the forecast suggests that will try to come our way next week.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00When it arrives, though, and exactly what weather it comes with

0:01:00 > 0:01:03still open to question - I'll address that in a moment.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05First, though, the next five days in detail.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07This is Thursday's weather.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Foggy start in southern England, dense fog in places.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11A weather front in north-west Scotland -

0:01:11 > 0:01:13outbreaks of rain here, and a strong wind.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Many places, though, will have a dry Thursday -

0:01:16 > 0:01:17broken clouds, sunny spells,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20breezy, especially across the northern half of the UK.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24Shouldn't affect the mild feel to the weather, 13 to 16 widely,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26but maybe as high as 18 Celsius.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27Rain moves south across Scotland

0:01:27 > 0:01:29and Northern Ireland on Thursday evening.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32On Friday, the weather front stalls,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34and then tries to head back northwards again.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Close to that weather front on Friday, northern England,

0:01:36 > 0:01:39North Wales, Northern Ireland, southern Scotland. This is where

0:01:39 > 0:01:41you'll see the thickest cloud, maybe some patchy rain.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Northern Scotland, sunny spells, bright.

0:01:43 > 0:01:48The rest of England and Wales, a lot of cloud, a few sunny spells, mild.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50As we go into the weekend,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53high pressure really starts to mark itself across the UK

0:01:53 > 0:01:56as it expands its coverage of settled weather, pushing

0:01:56 > 0:01:59that weather front northwards away from Northern Scotland.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Most places will have light winds.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Looks like a lot of cloud to come, but still it is mild.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07There could be some mist and fog to start the day, slow to clear,

0:02:07 > 0:02:10and again on Sunday. There may just be a weather front

0:02:10 > 0:02:13getting closer to the north-west of the UK on Sunday -

0:02:13 > 0:02:15that's still around going into Monday as well,

0:02:15 > 0:02:19thanks to an area of low pressure just lurking to the west of us,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21and it looks like this is going to be an important player

0:02:21 > 0:02:23in our weather next week and how it evolves.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Here's Monday's detail for you.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Uncertainty about how close the fronts are to the west of the UK,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31but the further west you are, you could see some outbreaks of rain.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33Other places remain under the influence of high pressure -

0:02:33 > 0:02:35yeah, it's a mild Halloween.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37So how things play out next week

0:02:37 > 0:02:40really depends on what happens with this area of low pressure,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43how it eventually exits the sea, either pushing across the UK

0:02:43 > 0:02:45or declining innocuously southwards away from us,

0:02:45 > 0:02:49and as it does so, pulling in that colder or cooler air

0:02:49 > 0:02:51as temperatures sink closer back to normal.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54We could tap in to this wodge of cold air to the north-west of us,

0:02:54 > 0:02:55bringing those temperatures down,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58We could tap in to this colder air in Scandinavia,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01again bringing the temperatures down. We'll see how it plays out,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03but it looks like cooler weather eventually arriving

0:03:03 > 0:03:06as the week goes on, temperatures returning to normal.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09But the sort of weather it comes with still looks fairly benign.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11Yes, we may see a bit of rain or a few showers,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13but it looks pretty quiet,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16and that means a continued lack of those deep areas of low pressure,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19really active weather that'll bring the leaves down,

0:03:19 > 0:03:20and possibly cause more damage.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22They are not in the forecast next week,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25and indeed, at the moment, as far as the eye can see.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29I know many watching this broadcast may say, long may it last. Bye-bye.
