0:00:01 > 0:00:04Good evening. If you've been off for half term,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06the weather has been pretty kind this week.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08Without giving the game away too much,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10this being the extended weather forecast

0:00:10 > 0:00:14any changes will be very slow in the coming six to ten days.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16But we've had some super weather watcher pictures in.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18This was the Isle of Wight late in the day on Thursday.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20It really does make you want to be there.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23It wasn't too far away that we recorded the highest temperature

0:00:23 > 0:00:27of the day - 17 degrees Celsius, so still into the 60s Fahrenheit.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Not bad given it is October.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32The reason for all this warmth at the moment is the wind direction.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35We are bathed in the south-westerly wind coming in off the Atlantic.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38With high pressure around, any weather fronts tend to be

0:00:38 > 0:00:41disintegrating as they come into that high pressure.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45As you can see, will see that milder air right across the UK,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48enveloping the UK this weekend.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49Because for Friday, at least,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52it will be a little colder across Scotland.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54It does mean brighter weather here, a touch of frost in the valleys,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57a few showers, but certainly here the best sunshine.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Whilst further south, there will still be fog around,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01pockets of dense fog if you are travelling.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02So do be aware.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05After that, there's more cloud around for Northern Ireland,

0:01:05 > 0:01:06for northern England, North Wales.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Some drizzly rain and hill fog here.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12If we see some brightness, we could realise 16 or 17 degrees Celsius.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14But on the whole, quite a bit of cloud.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16By Saturday, that same weather front

0:01:16 > 0:01:19will have pushed back northwards again.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Hence the fact that we are enveloped in that mild Atlantic air

0:01:21 > 0:01:23under the influence of high pressure.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26So the usual, in the morning it's quite chilly with some patchy fog.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Quite a bit around potentially on Saturday morning.

0:01:29 > 0:01:30By that stage into the afternoon,

0:01:30 > 0:01:35temperatures have risen more across Scotland again into the milder air.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Saturday night and Sunday brings rainy conditions for the far

0:01:38 > 0:01:40north-west of Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:01:40 > 0:01:43As this weather front pushes close by.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47So, for most, Saturday and Sunday look dry and fine.

0:01:47 > 0:01:52It is Diwali, of course, and you'll get an extra hour in bed as we

0:01:52 > 0:01:54go through Saturday night into Sunday

0:01:54 > 0:01:55because the clocks fall backwards.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57But what does Sunday hold for us?

0:01:57 > 0:01:59As I say, the big change is what is happening in the north-west

0:01:59 > 0:02:01and parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:02:01 > 0:02:05will see thicker cloud and some patchy rain, still quite mild.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06Whilst for England and Wales,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08we'll pick up some drier air coming in from the low country

0:02:08 > 0:02:11so possibly a bit more sunshine and fewer fog problems.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14But again, there will be patchy fog around

0:02:14 > 0:02:16both Sunday and Monday morning for the rush-hour.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19By that stage, our weather front has settled across northern Scotland.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Very slow-moving weather front, so that even by Tuesday it is

0:02:22 > 0:02:25only sinking its way into Northern Ireland and northern England,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28pushed along by high-pressure and a colder wind

0:02:28 > 0:02:31coming down from the Arctic, a bit of a northerly setting in.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33So that's the big change for Tuesday.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36It starts to feel chillier across Scotland.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Maybe see some winteriness in those showers.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41That establishes the pattern for the rest of next week.

0:02:41 > 0:02:42Earlier this week,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Nick's been telling you about the uncertainties regarding this

0:02:45 > 0:02:48area of low pressure. At the moment, on balance, it looks as if it

0:02:48 > 0:02:50will stay to the south and the high-pressure will move in.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Still fighting with this low pressure over Scandinavia.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55So in between, we've got the northerly wind

0:02:55 > 0:02:57bringing in that cold air down from the Arctic.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59So that's probably the big change

0:02:59 > 0:03:00through the middle part of next week,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04that it is going to get colder, so night-time frosts and showers

0:03:04 > 0:03:06will fall as sleet and snow in the north.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08We may even see the first snows of the season at lower levels

0:03:08 > 0:03:10across the far north of Scotland.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13We'll also see the return to some foggy mornings and some

0:03:13 > 0:03:15brighter afternoons.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19Crisp, clear air but colder than it has been this week.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20So, looking further ahead,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24it does look dry for a lot of us away from the north and east

0:03:24 > 0:03:26but there will be some showers here and it turns colder with more

0:03:26 > 0:03:28widespread night-time frosts.
