0:00:02 > 0:00:05It's been a good week for getting out and enjoying the autumn colours,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08especially where you've been lucky enough to see occasional sunshine.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Lovely view from one of our Weather Watchers on Friday

0:00:10 > 0:00:13in the grounds of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Beautiful colours on show.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17And each day this week, if you've had a bit of sunshine,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20temperatures have been as high as around 18 Celsius.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Of course, that's well above average for this stage of October.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25And the mild weather will stay with us through the weekend

0:00:25 > 0:00:28into the very first part of next week.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30The air is coming around this area of high pressure

0:00:30 > 0:00:32from the west, south-west.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35It is bringing quite a lot moisture our way through the weekend,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37and it's not necessarily in the way of rain,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39but plenty of cloud coming our way,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41so sunshine will be harder to come by.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43The colours show the type of air, the air mass,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46the temperature of the air rather than the sunshine on offer.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48The blue's indicating the colder air

0:00:48 > 0:00:50to the north and north-west of the UK,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53and it looks like some of this will filter southwards

0:00:53 > 0:00:54across the UK next week,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57and we'll look at that in just a moment.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59First of all, though, let's take you through the weekend weather.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03A foggy start in places on Saturday morning, hill fog in the west,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06low-level fog patches elsewhere in England and Wales.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Western hills throughout the weekend

0:01:08 > 0:01:10could see some occasional drizzle at times.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13East is best, or most favoured,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15for the chance of getting a bit of sunshine occasionally.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Probably going to see the highest temperatures too.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21It's on the mild side wherever you are, and light winds as well.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24Now, there is a weather front approaching from the Atlantic

0:01:24 > 0:01:26as we go through Saturday night and into Sunday.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29What that means for Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:01:29 > 0:01:30a bit of a change,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32there will be some outbreaks of rain around,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34patchy in nature, coming and going, not all of us will see them,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37but there's potential for seeing some heavier bursts.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39But we're more likely to see in the way of sunshine

0:01:39 > 0:01:42reaching parts of south-east England on Sunday.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Sunday is Diwali, the festival of light.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Sunset, an hour earlier on Sunday,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49which probably suits a festival of lights.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Don't forget, of course, the clocks going back on Saturday night

0:01:52 > 0:01:54to lead to that early sunset.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56And then on Monday, we're still watching this weather front

0:01:56 > 0:01:58to the north-west of the UK.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00It's behind that we're eventually going to see

0:02:00 > 0:02:01some cooler air filtering in.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Not moving very much on Monday, so it looks like

0:02:03 > 0:02:05Scotland and Northern Ireland close to that.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Again, some of us will see some outbreaks of rain.

0:02:08 > 0:02:09But for parts of England and Wales,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12a slightly sunnier picture than we had over the weekend.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Now, into Tuesday,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16our weather front is beginning to slip its way southwards.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Of course, with that, there will be cloud

0:02:18 > 0:02:21and some outbreaks of rain, but probably patchy in nature.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24But across the northern half of the UK, notice a change?

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Yes, temperatures are coming down, cooler areas filtering in.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29But it's a sunnier picture too.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31So the change taking place

0:02:31 > 0:02:33as we go through Tuesday into Wednesday.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Dislodging the mild air,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37getting something colder coming our way.

0:02:37 > 0:02:38Not terribly cold, though.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40It's just bringing temperatures down

0:02:40 > 0:02:43closer to where we should expect them to be at this time of year,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45or closer to average, if you like.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48By Wednesday, the leading edge of that cooler air

0:02:48 > 0:02:49somewhere in southern England,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52a bit of uncertainty about how quickly it's going to clear away

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and allow that cooler air to come in.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56But, of course, that is the most significant change

0:02:56 > 0:02:58in next week's weather.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00A dip in temperatures, closer to average.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02There'll be sunshine with that dip,

0:03:02 > 0:03:03but also some showers around.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Perhaps wintry on the hills of Scotland,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08perhaps into Northern England as well.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10And a breezier picture for a time,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12especially down the eastern side of the UK.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14Looking a little further ahead into November,

0:03:14 > 0:03:18we're expecting temperatures to be at or maybe slightly below average

0:03:18 > 0:03:20during the first part of November,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23but looking less likely than usual at this time of year,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26deep areas of low pressure with strong winds,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28which means getting out and enjoying those autumn colours.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Yeah, still looking good.
