0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello, there. A summary of the month of October coming up shortly,
0:00:05 > 0:00:06but before that, I've got some
0:00:06 > 0:00:08spookily interesting facts about Halloween.
0:00:08 > 0:00:12We've had three consecutive warm Halloweens,
0:00:12 > 0:00:16in 2014 the warmest with 24 Celsius in Kent, 75 Fahrenheit.
0:00:16 > 0:00:22But 2016 saw the warmest Halloween on record for parts of Wales.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25But it wasn't the warmth that's been the talking point through the month,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27it's just how dry it's been -
0:00:27 > 0:00:30particularly across central and western areas we've seen
0:00:30 > 0:00:32way below average rainfall
0:00:32 > 0:00:35with just eastern fringes seeing really around average
0:00:35 > 0:00:37and the north-west of Scotland
0:00:37 > 0:00:40has been incredibly dry and sunny.
0:00:40 > 0:00:44In fact, it's been the sunniest October since 1929.
0:00:44 > 0:00:46And the reason for this,
0:00:46 > 0:00:48well, it's all to do with the pressure patterns.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51We had high pressure, really, just anchored up into the north
0:00:51 > 0:00:54and that dragged in an unusually easterly flow of winds.
0:00:54 > 0:00:58So, from time to time it was quite cool and on the east coast
0:00:58 > 0:01:00it was at times quite showery too.
0:01:00 > 0:01:03What we should have at this time of year is low pressure up into
0:01:03 > 0:01:07the north and this westerly flow bringing in milder
0:01:07 > 0:01:09but wetter weather as autumn approaches.
0:01:09 > 0:01:13But it does look as though we are set to see some cold weather
0:01:13 > 0:01:15descend across the country - that'll be a bit of
0:01:15 > 0:01:18a shock to the system over the next few days, I suspect.
0:01:18 > 0:01:22It will be relatively quiet, but, yes, noticeably colder.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25Anyway, through Tuesday we will have some fog around across
0:01:25 > 0:01:29the M4 corridor, that will lift into low cloud and the odd spit
0:01:29 > 0:01:31and spot of drizzle from the dying weather front.
0:01:31 > 0:01:34Behind it, something brighter, fresher,
0:01:34 > 0:01:38but certainly sunnier across Scotland and Northern Ireland -
0:01:38 > 0:01:418 to 15 degrees perhaps our overall high.
0:01:41 > 0:01:45That weather front will slowly clear away and under clearer skies
0:01:45 > 0:01:48we'll see temperatures falling away with just a scattering
0:01:48 > 0:01:51of showers up into the far north but more importantly, it could be
0:01:51 > 0:01:56a chilly night with a widespread frost across the country.
0:01:56 > 0:01:59So, that will certainly help to bring down the autumn colours,
0:01:59 > 0:02:02the leaves that have been sitting on the trees, unfortunately,
0:02:02 > 0:02:05and another thing that will help is a strengthening wind
0:02:05 > 0:02:08coming from a northerly direction, and across that east coast
0:02:08 > 0:02:11it's going to feel chillier with a scattering of showers here.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14Further west, in a little more shelter, not quite as cold,
0:02:14 > 0:02:16but nevertheless, 9 to 12 Celsius.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18Now, the high-pressure stays with this.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21Weather fronts trying to push in from the extreme north-west and that
0:02:21 > 0:02:25will eventually bring some rain with it, but generally on Thursday,
0:02:25 > 0:02:28there'll be a good slice of sunny weather across England and Wales,
0:02:28 > 0:02:31clouding over from the west with some wet and windy weather
0:02:31 > 0:02:33arriving by the end of the day.
0:02:33 > 0:02:36And look at the temperatures, 8 to 12 degrees.
0:02:36 > 0:02:39That will bring the first significant rain for quite some time
0:02:39 > 0:02:42across England and Wales as it pushes south and east,
0:02:42 > 0:02:45and then as we move into the weekend, look at the isobars,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48squeezing together and heading from a northerly direction,
0:02:48 > 0:02:51so it stays windy and potentially it stays pretty chilly.
0:02:51 > 0:02:55So that means for the firework displays taking place this weekend
0:02:55 > 0:02:56it's certainly worth bearing in mind...
0:02:56 > 0:02:59A noticeable wind, perhaps gale force at times,
0:02:59 > 0:03:02and it's going to feel pretty chilly as well.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04What's happening further afield?
0:03:04 > 0:03:07Well, looking ahead to the eight to ten-day forecast,
0:03:07 > 0:03:10it looks as though we keep this north-westerly flow developing,
0:03:10 > 0:03:13always making it feel cooler with high-pressure really sitting
0:03:13 > 0:03:15out into the north-west.
0:03:15 > 0:03:18So, it's going to stay cold for the beginning of November,
0:03:18 > 0:03:21there's a potential for some wintry showers, even at lower levels
0:03:21 > 0:03:25to the north for a time, dry but largely frosty down to the south.
0:03:25 > 0:03:29So, to summarise, a change of month, a change to the feel.
