0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. High pressure and the positioning of high pressure

0:00:04 > 0:00:08will have a big part to play in our weather for the next ten days.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10For the next five days or so,

0:00:10 > 0:00:13high pressure is just to the east of the UK.

0:00:13 > 0:00:14What does that mean?

0:00:14 > 0:00:17It means that we're going to find sunshine in short supply,

0:00:17 > 0:00:21a lot of cloud around over the course of the week.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22It'll be wettest in the west.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24This is where we'll see weather fronts arriving.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26Southerly wind, though, will be picking up.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28It's going to bring mild air once again.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Bit chilly still on Monday,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32especially across some eastern areas.

0:00:32 > 0:00:33Temperatures very slow to rise,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35although it should be on the dry side.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37We've got this drizzly rain coming up

0:00:37 > 0:00:38from south-west Wales, up into the Midlands,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40eventually all the way to north-west England

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and south-west Scotland.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44That's drawing in some milder air

0:00:44 > 0:00:46and lifting the morning mist and fog as well,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49but chilly where it stays dry in eastern Scotland

0:00:49 > 0:00:51and eastern England.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Here we could see a little bit of rain and drizzle,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54towards the end of the afternoon

0:00:54 > 0:00:55and into the evening, probably.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58You can see how damp it looks overnight.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59That will turn to push away.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Then a gap where we see some more patches of fog

0:01:02 > 0:01:03before some more rain comes again

0:01:03 > 0:01:05into the south-west and Wales.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Most of this rain will be light.

0:01:07 > 0:01:08It should be largely dry

0:01:08 > 0:01:10for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12This is where we'll see the lowest temperatures,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14maybe a pinch of frost in the countryside.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17A couple of weak weather fronts on the scene on Tuesday.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19Something more substantial waiting in the wings

0:01:19 > 0:01:20out in the Atlantic.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Focus on these two, first of all.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23That one's moving away,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25taking the rain and drizzle with it.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27This one will take some damper weather

0:01:27 > 0:01:29eastwards across England.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31The rain and drizzle then petering out,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33but we're left a lot of cloud.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34Maybe a little bit misty and murky.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36A glimmer of sunshine here and there

0:01:36 > 0:01:38as things improve in Wales and the south-west,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40and possibly for Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:01:40 > 0:01:42where temperatures are just about

0:01:42 > 0:01:43getting into double figures.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Highs of 13, though, in the south-east.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Then that more substantial weather front

0:01:47 > 0:01:49arriving in from the Atlantic.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51All our weather is coming in from the Atlantic,

0:01:51 > 0:01:52but it's moving in very slowly.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54It's bumping into that blocking area

0:01:54 > 0:01:56of high pressure that's to the east of us.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58So this is why western areas

0:01:58 > 0:01:59are seeing most of the rain.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01That's certainly going to be the case on Wednesday.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03We're going to find Northern Ireland,

0:02:03 > 0:02:04Scotland just bordering

0:02:04 > 0:02:05into western fringes of England and Wales,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07that's where we've got the rain.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08Central and eastern areas still dry.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Still pretty cloudy, I suspect.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13That first weather front just sort of weakens in situ.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15A bigger, deeper area of low pressure approaches,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17looks pretty scary.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19The winds are going to strengthen.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20It's a southerly wind.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22We're drawing up some milder air all the time.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25This first weather front just peters out,

0:02:25 > 0:02:26not much rain on that.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Again, dry towards the south-east.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Then the more substantial rain.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31The next one comes into Northern Ireland

0:02:31 > 0:02:32and Western Scotland.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35But that too tends to run out of energy.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37It runs out of motion,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39it decelerates across the UK,

0:02:39 > 0:02:40so it gets stuck here.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Again, dry towards the south-east.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44Some slightly cooler air, though,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46just arriving into the north-west,

0:02:46 > 0:02:47just for a while.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49So we've got this band of rain, a weather front.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50That, again, will weaken,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53cos we're talking about high pressure, remember.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Whilst we've got a big one out over continental Europe,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58we've got high pressure, initially, building up

0:02:58 > 0:02:59from the south-west,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01bringing with it some mild air.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Still drying things out all the while.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06Eventually, though, it's going to be the high pressure,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08probably from the near continent,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11that will extend and join forces to settle things down.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Areas of low pressure getting steered to the north-west of the UK.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16So here, now and again, in the outlook,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18there may be a little rain from some weather fronts,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20but on the whole, things are settling down.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23As the continental high becomes more established,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25it may turn a bit colder later on.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Maybe, if the cloud breaks, there's a risk of some frost and some fog.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Goodbye.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39# Snow is falling
