0:00:03 > 0:00:06This extended forecast will take a look at the possibilities in

0:00:06 > 0:00:08the run-up to Christmas but doesn't quite include the Christmas

0:00:08 > 0:00:09weekend itself.

0:00:09 > 0:00:13Back to the middle of the week and it was a day of contrasts across the

0:00:13 > 0:00:14UK with cloud and rain across much

0:00:14 > 0:00:16of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Whereas across England

0:00:18 > 0:00:19and Wales it was a completely

0:00:19 > 0:00:20different story.

0:00:20 > 0:00:21There was plenty of

0:00:21 > 0:00:23sunshine and it was very mind indeed.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26We got to 13-14 degrees quite widely.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29Thanks to our Weather Watchers for sending in those pictures.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31For the rest of this week it does stay essentially mild but the

0:00:31 > 0:00:33temperature will be dropping back down

0:00:33 > 0:00:35a little bit as we head on into the weekend.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37A fair bit of cloud around in the next few days.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39Not much rain on the eastern side of the UK.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Most of the rain will be out west.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42We've got a weather

0:00:42 > 0:00:44front coming in to the west during the day on Thursday

0:00:44 > 0:00:46with a bit of a breeze, fair number of isobars.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48It's going to get stuck in the north-west mainly because it's

0:00:48 > 0:00:52bumping into this area of high pressure across the near continent.

0:00:52 > 0:00:53We do start the day quite grey,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55eastern Scotland and England

0:00:55 > 0:00:57there will be some fog particularly towards the north-east.

0:00:57 > 0:00:58Bit of patchy rain

0:00:58 > 0:01:00drifts up into the Midlands and northern

0:01:00 > 0:01:02England for the afternoon.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03Something brighter follows but then the weather

0:01:03 > 0:01:05front starts to creep its way into

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Northern Ireland through the afternoon.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09A bit of a breeze picking up here, thickening cloud and some rain.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12But still got a southerly breeze so for most of us mild,

0:01:12 > 0:01:13double figures for many.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17Then as pressure builds across our weather front it becomes a weakening

0:01:17 > 0:01:19feature during the day on Friday but

0:01:19 > 0:01:21it's still there in the north-west.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Some patchy rain into western Scotland,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25maybe some in Northern Ireland and down though the Irish Sea.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Elsewhere a grey start but I think we'll see some breaks in that cloud.

0:01:28 > 0:01:32A bit of sunshine and very little rain getting through for England and

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Wales. Mild in the south and still not too bad temperature wise

0:01:34 > 0:01:37further north. 9 or 10 degrees.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Into the start of the weekend

0:01:39 > 0:01:40pressure builds

0:01:40 > 0:01:42across all of the UK.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Light winds for the most part with very few isobars but

0:01:45 > 0:01:47a bit more towards the north and the west and there will be

0:01:47 > 0:01:48a bit of a breeze, outbreaks of rain

0:01:48 > 0:01:50mainly towards the northern isles,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53maybe some gets into the far north of Scotland.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Elsewhere it should brighten up.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57We'll see some spells of sunshine.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58But with those light winds, a nice afternoon

0:01:58 > 0:02:00despite those temperatures dipping

0:02:00 > 0:02:02back into single figures for most places.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Second part of the weekend,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05still breezy in the west of Scotland

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and that's where we're going

0:02:07 > 0:02:09to see the focus point for

0:02:09 > 0:02:11most rain during the day on Sunday.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Elsewhere a fair bit of cloud.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Not much wind across England and Wales

0:02:15 > 0:02:17so a reasonable day for getting out and about.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Again those temperatures are in single figures.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Closer to where they should be for this time of the year.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23Looking ahead to

0:02:23 > 0:02:25the start of the new week,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27high pressure is still in charge of our weather.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Pushing those weather fronts away to the north and west.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32So a lot of dry weather on Monday.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Dry if rather cloudy but there might

0:02:34 > 0:02:36be a few breaks here and there

0:02:36 > 0:02:37and those temperatures

0:02:37 > 0:02:40are in single figures, seven or eight degrees.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Early next week high pressure

0:02:42 > 0:02:43is the dominant force.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45That will keep it dry for the most part.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Maybe a few showers to the north and the west where there's always

0:02:48 > 0:02:50going to be a bit more of a breeze.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52As you look to the latter part of

0:02:52 > 0:02:54the week Wednesday to Friday, most

0:02:54 > 0:02:56likely is the high will drift away

0:02:56 > 0:02:58to the near continent still

0:02:58 > 0:03:00allowing milder air to come back in.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04Bringing a few showers to the north and west of the UK.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06What's less likely to happen is to

0:03:06 > 0:03:08see an area of low pressure

0:03:08 > 0:03:10heading to the north-west of the UK.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12This could be, if it happens, quite

0:03:12 > 0:03:14a vigorous area of low pressure.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Might see gales or even severe gales but it is

0:03:16 > 0:03:19a fairly low probability for that to happen.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28Bye for now.
