0:00:02 > 0:00:04It's a fairly quiet weekend of weather,
0:00:04 > 0:00:06but, next week, it looks like
0:00:06 > 0:00:08the jet stream comes back to life
0:00:08 > 0:00:10and brings weather systems across the Atlantic,
0:00:10 > 0:00:11with quite a change in our weather.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13It means later next week,
0:00:13 > 0:00:15fog is going to be on the back foot,
0:00:15 > 0:00:18as our weather turns windier, more unsettled.
0:00:18 > 0:00:20But that hasn't arrived yet
0:00:20 > 0:00:21and certainly, for Sunday morning,
0:00:21 > 0:00:24we are expecting some quite dense fog patches
0:00:24 > 0:00:26to be affecting parts of England and Wales and,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28just as it did on Saturday, there could be
0:00:28 > 0:00:30some travel disruption around,
0:00:30 > 0:00:32and some of this fog here
0:00:32 > 0:00:33could be very reluctant to clear
0:00:33 > 0:00:34and where it doesn't,
0:00:34 > 0:00:36or it just stays misty and murky,
0:00:36 > 0:00:38the temperature may only manage to be
0:00:38 > 0:00:39in mid-single figures.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41Northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43I think, many have more cloud than Saturday,
0:00:43 > 0:00:44still mainly dry,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46still a few sunny spells around
0:00:46 > 0:00:48and there will be a mild feel, I think
0:00:48 > 0:00:50especially across parts of north-east Scotland,
0:00:50 > 0:00:51Moray Firth, north Aberdeenshire.
0:00:51 > 0:00:54Temperatures could be in the mid-teens.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56As we look at the picture through Sunday night
0:00:56 > 0:00:58and into Monday morning, again, we are expecting,
0:00:58 > 0:01:00especially across parts of England and Wales,
0:01:00 > 0:01:02some fog patches to come back.
0:01:02 > 0:01:03A weather system just edging towards
0:01:03 > 0:01:05north-west Scotland late in the night,
0:01:05 > 0:01:07with a freshening breeze.
0:01:07 > 0:01:08And there isn't much frost around -
0:01:08 > 0:01:10a few spots getting into low single figures
0:01:10 > 0:01:12anywhere clear for any period of time.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15Now, this is the big picture for Monday.
0:01:15 > 0:01:18We're trying to bring in some weak weather systems
0:01:18 > 0:01:19from the north-west.
0:01:19 > 0:01:21Not having much success
0:01:21 > 0:01:22in bringing any significant rain with them
0:01:22 > 0:01:25or moving very far south-eastwards,
0:01:25 > 0:01:26so we're just being attacked a little bit
0:01:26 > 0:01:29by this one on Monday in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland.
0:01:29 > 0:01:30We see a weaker weather system,
0:01:30 > 0:01:32just may bring in some thicker cloud
0:01:32 > 0:01:34and some outbreaks of patchy rain
0:01:34 > 0:01:37towards parts of eastern and south-east England.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Either side, getting a bit of rain in between.
0:01:40 > 0:01:41Could be a few brighter spells for you and,
0:01:41 > 0:01:44for the most part, single-figure temperatures.
0:01:44 > 0:01:46Fairly normal for the time of year.
0:01:46 > 0:01:47Now, the weather system
0:01:47 > 0:01:49tries to edge south-eastwards
0:01:49 > 0:01:50on Monday night and into Tuesday morning,
0:01:50 > 0:01:52then edges a bit further westwards again,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54so there will be a zone of thicker cloud,
0:01:54 > 0:01:55with maybe a few spots of rain
0:01:55 > 0:01:58straddling somewhere the UK on Tuesday.
0:01:58 > 0:02:00Looks like we could bring in some drier, clearer air
0:02:00 > 0:02:02towards eastern and south-east England on Tuesday.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04Chilly, mind you, but some brighter skies.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06Then a more significant weather system
0:02:06 > 0:02:08bearing down on Scotland and Northern Ireland
0:02:08 > 0:02:10as Tuesday comes to an end.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12A more significant spell of rain
0:02:12 > 0:02:13spreading its way south-eastwards
0:02:13 > 0:02:16Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18This may well weaken for a time,
0:02:18 > 0:02:19as it pushes south-east.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Another one approaching north-western parts
0:02:21 > 0:02:23of the UK on Wednesday
0:02:23 > 0:02:24and in between, we get some brighter skies.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26More wind arrows, so the breeze
0:02:26 > 0:02:28is starting to pick up as well,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30and we see a little wave on this weather front.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32Look at the picture for England and Wales,
0:02:32 > 0:02:34Wednesday night into Thursday,
0:02:34 > 0:02:35some more substantial rain.
0:02:35 > 0:02:37Look at the isobars close together
0:02:37 > 0:02:39across the north and north-west of Britain -
0:02:39 > 0:02:41stronger winds with gales in places, too.
0:02:41 > 0:02:42However you look at it, Thursday,
0:02:42 > 0:02:44some pretty active weather.
0:02:44 > 0:02:46Potential of the northern flank of this system
0:02:46 > 0:02:48reaching northwards into colder air,
0:02:48 > 0:02:49could find a bit of sleet and snow on hills
0:02:49 > 0:02:51before it pulls away,
0:02:51 > 0:02:52then the picture for Friday
0:02:52 > 0:02:54shows another deep area of low pressure.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56Again, isobars, very strong winds,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58gales in places towards the north-west
0:02:58 > 0:02:59of Britain in particular.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01That is as the jet stream
0:03:01 > 0:03:03strengthens during next week,
0:03:03 > 0:03:05driven by a stronger thermal contrast
0:03:05 > 0:03:06across North America,
0:03:06 > 0:03:08and it's on that jet stream we find
0:03:08 > 0:03:10those more active weather systems
0:03:10 > 0:03:11coming our way.
0:03:11 > 0:03:13So that is the transition
0:03:13 > 0:03:15from a quiet start to next week,
0:03:15 > 0:03:17with some mist and fog around,
0:03:17 > 0:03:18light winds, a lot of dry weather,
0:03:18 > 0:03:21but it's from that late Tuesday onwards period
0:03:21 > 0:03:23our weather turns much more unsettled
0:03:23 > 0:03:25and we see these areas of low pressure coming in,
0:03:25 > 0:03:27and they look like they'll be around
0:03:27 > 0:03:28as well for Christmas weekend,
0:03:28 > 0:03:30but we'll keep you updated on that.
