0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello again. There are some big changes in the weather pattern

0:00:04 > 0:00:07as we head towards New Year but the next few days continues

0:00:07 > 0:00:09this very boisterous weather, if you like.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12Strong jet stream picking up areas of low pressure.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Another storm is going to develop out in the Atlantic

0:00:15 > 0:00:16from this area of cloud,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18that's going to be Storm Conor.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20More recently, of course, we've been battered,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22especially in the north and west by Storm Barbara.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24That, though, is blowing away

0:00:24 > 0:00:26the centre of low pressure,

0:00:26 > 0:00:27moving away from the UK.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Still a lot of isobars on the chart

0:00:30 > 0:00:32so it will be very windy once again.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35And through the night into Christmas Eve,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37we're going to find lots of showers

0:00:37 > 0:00:38continuing across the north,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40blustery winds too, and some more snow

0:00:40 > 0:00:42in the hills and mountains of Scotland again

0:00:42 > 0:00:44so really, pretty atrocious weather here.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46It could be quite icy as well.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Further south, skies will clear,

0:00:48 > 0:00:49the winds won't be as strong,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52it will be a little on the chilly side.

0:00:52 > 0:00:53More windy weather though

0:00:53 > 0:00:55across northern parts of the UK

0:00:55 > 0:00:57on Christmas Eve and more frequent showers.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Again, wintry in Scotland,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01a few showers for England and Wales

0:01:01 > 0:01:03but much drier as you head

0:01:03 > 0:01:05further south and east, sunshine.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06Temperatures may be in double figures,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08it'll feel much colder further north

0:01:08 > 0:01:10though with all that wet and windy weather

0:01:10 > 0:01:13and rain arrives in the north-west later on.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15That will move northwards during the night.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Christmas Day morning though

0:01:17 > 0:01:19will be extremely mild -

0:01:19 > 0:01:2113, 14, even 15 degrees.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22But there will be a lot of cloud,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24there'll be some really gusty winds,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26especially over into the east of high ground,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28and this weather front will focus

0:01:28 > 0:01:29a band of thicker cloud and rain,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31that will move its way slowly southwards.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Ahead of it, the mild air continues

0:01:33 > 0:01:35to the north where it gets cold enough

0:01:35 > 0:01:37for some wintry showers in the north of Scotland

0:01:37 > 0:01:39later on Christmas Day so, belatedly,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41it may be a white Christmas

0:01:41 > 0:01:43but only probably in the north of Scotland.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45That colder air comes in behind that cold front,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47pushing away all the mild air.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Got to focus, though, on the area of low pressure

0:01:50 > 0:01:52that's to the north of Scotland -

0:01:52 > 0:01:54that, of course, by Boxing Day,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56will be Conor, Storm Conor,

0:01:56 > 0:01:57and it's on Boxing Day that

0:01:57 > 0:01:59it's going to be closest to the UK.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02You can see how it just spins round a little bit

0:02:02 > 0:02:05and just hits the far north-east of Scotland.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07It's here we have the amber wind warning.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09By Boxing Day, 80mph winds or so.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Very gusty winds for the rest of Scotland,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13quite a few wintry showers too.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Further south, it's much drier

0:02:15 > 0:02:17and the winds won't be as strong either.

0:02:17 > 0:02:18As we head into Tuesday,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20we're all again in that colder air

0:02:20 > 0:02:22but across northern parts of the UK,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24it may not feel quite as cold by Tuesday

0:02:24 > 0:02:26because the wind won't be as strong by then.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Conor long gone and instead

0:02:28 > 0:02:30we're building up high pressure

0:02:30 > 0:02:32from the near continent from the south,

0:02:32 > 0:02:33settling things down,

0:02:33 > 0:02:36bringing a lot more dry weather and some sunshine

0:02:36 > 0:02:39and the winds will be lighter as well.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41The position of the high will be crucial.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Nearer the centre of the high pressure

0:02:43 > 0:02:45in the south-east of the UK,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47we may have some frost and some fog,

0:02:47 > 0:02:49hopefully a bit of sunshine as well,

0:02:49 > 0:02:50but as you head more towards

0:02:50 > 0:02:52the north-west, things will be different.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55So nearer the centre of the high pressure, this is where the

0:02:55 > 0:02:58winds will be lighter, we've got the threat of frost and fog.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01Further north and west though, we'll have a much stronger wind,

0:03:01 > 0:03:02it's going to be pretty mild,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05but it means much more cloud and across the north-west,

0:03:05 > 0:03:09there could be some weather fronts just bringing some spells of

0:03:09 > 0:03:10thicker cloud and rain as well.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Now, as we head towards New Year,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15this is where we get a significant change

0:03:15 > 0:03:18because the high pressure then gets pushed away down much further south,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20fades away, and instead,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23behind a weather front that's coming down to bring some rain,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24we get some northerly winds

0:03:24 > 0:03:25so it'll be colder, cleaner air

0:03:25 > 0:03:27but there may be a few wintry showers.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Goodbye.
