0:00:02 > 0:00:04Thanks for joining me. Merry Christmas.

0:00:04 > 0:00:05Let's see what the weather is up to

0:00:05 > 0:00:07in the run up to the New Year.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09There are some changes coming our way.

0:00:09 > 0:00:14It's been very windy, mild, breezy, stormy, even,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16in northern parts of the UK in the last few days.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Certainly Christmas, no change there.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Storm Conor raging out there in the Atlantic.

0:00:21 > 0:00:25This is one of the reasons why it's so mild outside.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28This big wind storm is drawing all of that warmth

0:00:28 > 0:00:29from the Azores.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31That's sitting right on top of us,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34just in time for Christmas Day.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37So, for some of us, actually near record-breaking,

0:00:37 > 0:00:38it's so mild.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Santa's braving those very strong winds,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Conor is just to the north of the UK here,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46sending gale-force winds into Scotland.

0:00:46 > 0:00:47There'll be some rain around,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49damp at the very least, and cloudy.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Ten degrees first thing in the morning

0:00:51 > 0:00:53across some southern areas,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54a little bit colder in the north.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Here's the forecast for Christmas Day.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Basically mild south-westerlies.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00There'll be blustery showers

0:01:00 > 0:01:01across parts of Scotland.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03So here you will need your brolly,

0:01:03 > 0:01:04but steady in the wind -

0:01:04 > 0:01:06it really will be screaming gales

0:01:06 > 0:01:08across these western parts of Scotland.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09Maybe a bit of brightness,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11particularly to the east of the Pennines.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14There maybe the clouds breaking up

0:01:14 > 0:01:17across the Welsh hills, and in the south too,

0:01:17 > 0:01:18a hint of maybe a little bit

0:01:18 > 0:01:20of milky sunshine coming through.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21But, essentially speaking,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23it's very cloudy and mild out there.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26You can see the numbers - 12, 13,14.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27There's even a slim chance we might

0:01:27 > 0:01:29get up to 15 degrees Celsius.

0:01:29 > 0:01:30Here's a look at Christmas Day.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32In the evening, more squally showers,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34really gusty showers, that is,

0:01:34 > 0:01:35moving into northern parts

0:01:35 > 0:01:37of England and Wales as well.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39This big area of low pressure here -

0:01:39 > 0:01:40an old area of low pressure -

0:01:40 > 0:01:42that's still Storm Conor

0:01:42 > 0:01:44raging out across the Norwegian Sea,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45still sending very strong winds

0:01:45 > 0:01:48into northern parts of Scotland for Boxing Day.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51The warnings in force from the Met Office here.

0:01:51 > 0:01:52To the south of that,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54the weather is going to be a lot, lot quieter.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Conor is certainly not going to be

0:01:56 > 0:01:57affecting the weather further south.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Well, it's still going to be

0:01:59 > 0:02:00sending that mild air our way,

0:02:00 > 0:02:01but that's pretty much it.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Notice some rain, some gusty showers

0:02:04 > 0:02:06across the north here, whereas in the south,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08just a few dribs and drabs of rain

0:02:08 > 0:02:10during the course of Boxing Day.

0:02:10 > 0:02:11Look at these numbers.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Certainly doesn't feel like the end of December.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15After all of this wind and big areas of low pressure,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17complete change.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19High pressure will start dominating the weather

0:02:19 > 0:02:20from Tuesday.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22Actually, fog may be a problem

0:02:22 > 0:02:25rather than wind as we go through Tuesday into Wednesday.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Wednesday morning in particular, I think,

0:02:27 > 0:02:32is a candidate for some very thick, perhaps even widespread fog

0:02:32 > 0:02:34across parts of England,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37particularly central, southern, south-eastern areas.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39This high pressure will stick around

0:02:39 > 0:02:41through Wednesday and into Thursday.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43But in the north-west of the country,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45low pressures are trying to push in,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48so there will be contrasts across the UK

0:02:48 > 0:02:52as we slowly edge towards the end of the year.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55So north-western parts of the UK, Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57probably more likely to have a bit of a breeze,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59maybe some rain at times.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01The further south and east you are,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03you're likely to have some bright weather,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06but remember - there is that risk of thick,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08widespread - perhaps widespread -

0:03:08 > 0:03:11fog across southern areas.

0:03:11 > 0:03:12As we head towards the New Year,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14on the cusp of the old and the new year,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16there's going to be a battle of milder air

0:03:16 > 0:03:19coming in from the south and colder air.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21The colder air probably arriving

0:03:21 > 0:03:23in just about 2017,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26but exactly how this is going to pan out

0:03:26 > 0:03:28is still too early to say.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Thanks for watching.
