0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello there. Fog has been quite a hazard in recent days, and I suspect
0:00:05 > 0:00:09it will be as we get on into the first part of New Year's Eve.
0:00:09 > 0:00:11The worst of the fog will be across East Anglia and the
0:00:11 > 0:00:14south-east of England, quite dense in places.
0:00:14 > 0:00:17It could be quite tricky on some of the faster routes,
0:00:17 > 0:00:18so do take care on the roads.
0:00:18 > 0:00:20There may well be further delays at the airports.
0:00:20 > 0:00:23If you're on the move, BBC local radio should keep you up to date.
0:00:23 > 0:00:26The worst of the fog will be across parts of East Anglia,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28the south-east of England, a few patches of fog elsewhere.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30It'll be slow to clear because the winds are fairly light
0:00:30 > 0:00:31from the south-west.
0:00:31 > 0:00:34That breeze in Northern Ireland and Scotland helps to keep
0:00:34 > 0:00:36the fog at bay, and we'll see a weather front slipping its
0:00:36 > 0:00:38way ever southwards, bringing some rain with it.
0:00:38 > 0:00:41By the afternoon, ten or eleven degrees for Glasgow, Belfast,
0:00:41 > 0:00:44and around about ten degrees for Cardiff and London, as well.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47As we get on through the evening, our weather front is drifting south.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49It'll eventually clear from southern Scotland.
0:00:49 > 0:00:53By about midnight it's across northern England and parts of Wales.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56South and east of that, it's fine and dry and relatively mild.
0:00:56 > 0:00:57To the north of our weather front,
0:00:57 > 0:01:00it's turning colder all the while, cold enough for some snow showers
0:01:00 > 0:01:03to take us on into the first part of New Year's Day.
0:01:03 > 0:01:07Some of those will get down to quite low levels in northern Scotland.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10But our weather front is rather slow to move away from the south, so it
0:01:10 > 0:01:14will be quite a grey day across the south-eastern corner in particular.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16But follow those isobars back and they go a long way north,
0:01:16 > 0:01:21some Arctic air flooding down across the UK for the start of 2017.
0:01:21 > 0:01:25And that Arctic air will be across all parts by the latter part
0:01:25 > 0:01:27of the day, and there's quite a breeze, as well.
0:01:27 > 0:01:30The strongest winds will be across the North Sea coastal areas,
0:01:30 > 0:01:32just accentuating the chilly feel to things,
0:01:32 > 0:01:35and there'll be a breeze down some western coasts, as well.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37Wintry showers continue in northern Scotland and
0:01:37 > 0:01:39maybe cropping up in the Southern Uplands, maybe the north Pennines.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42As I say, it'll be a pretty slow day across East Anglia
0:01:42 > 0:01:44and the south-east, that rain taking a while to clear away.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47But it does do eventually, and then by Bank Holiday Monday,
0:01:47 > 0:01:50it looks like a pretty decent day, actually, for many places.
0:01:50 > 0:01:53A fair number of isobars on the chart. It will be quite breezy,
0:01:53 > 0:01:56particularly windy around some western and eastern coasts.
0:01:56 > 0:01:59But out of that breeze, inland, actually it looks pretty decent.
0:01:59 > 0:02:01Yes, it'll be a cold start to the day,
0:02:01 > 0:02:03and it will be a cold day generally speaking,
0:02:03 > 0:02:05but there should be winter sunshine,
0:02:05 > 0:02:08particularly across England and Wales.
0:02:08 > 0:02:10More cloud around on Tuesday, but not much, really,
0:02:10 > 0:02:12a little bit in the north and west.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15Many places will be dry, but after a cold start it's only four,
0:02:15 > 0:02:18five or six degrees, seven maybe if you are lucky.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21On to the middle of the week, and high pressure remains in charge.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24Some weather fronts just lurking out in the Atlantic, but all in all
0:02:24 > 0:02:27through the middle of the week it's another essentially dry day.
0:02:27 > 0:02:30A lot of cloud, though, trapped underneath that high,
0:02:30 > 0:02:32and still a bit of a breeze down that North Sea coast.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35Maybe a shower or two for some western areas, but most places
0:02:35 > 0:02:38will be dry but still cold, six, seven or eight degrees
0:02:38 > 0:02:41fairly typical through the middle part of the week.
0:02:41 > 0:02:45And then, as we head on into the latter part of the coming week,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48well, high pressure is slowly losing its influence and weather
0:02:48 > 0:02:51fronts are starting to pile their way in from the west.
0:02:51 > 0:02:52So the north and the west of the UK
0:02:52 > 0:02:54likely to see rain later on next week.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56Not too much of that gets down towards the south-east.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59And then, as we head on into the following weekend, well, the most
0:02:59 > 0:03:04likely scenario is for a cold north or north-easterly wind to develop.
0:03:04 > 0:03:05And with the wind coming from that direction,
0:03:05 > 0:03:08we can expect to see some wintry weather developing.
0:03:08 > 0:03:11There'll be snow showers, mainly in the north and north-east of the UK,
0:03:11 > 0:03:13and there'll be some snow over the higher ground, but some
0:03:13 > 0:03:17of that snow will probably get down to lower levels at times, as well.
0:03:17 > 0:03:18So, into next weekend,
0:03:18 > 0:03:21we're going to keep the cold feel across all parts of the UK.
0:03:21 > 0:03:24It'll be quite windy, as well, the winds still coming down from the
0:03:24 > 0:03:25north or north-east, bringing a few
0:03:25 > 0:03:29wintry showers in the mix, as well. A further update tomorrow.
