0:00:00 > 0:00:02Hello. The weather in the UK this weekend

0:00:02 > 0:00:04may have been desperately dull so far,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06but it is far from that in Eastern Europe at the moment.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09In fact, it's bone chillingly cold.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11Icy cold extends from Siberia

0:00:11 > 0:00:12all the way through

0:00:12 > 0:00:14towards Turkey, Greece and Italy,

0:00:14 > 0:00:15and on Saturday afternoon,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18the high for the day in Krakow in Poland

0:00:18 > 0:00:20was -16.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22To go with the icy winds, strong, gusty,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24was disruptive snowfall -

0:00:24 > 0:00:26these scenes coming from Greece and Turkey

0:00:26 > 0:00:27through the afternoon.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29We'll have some snow in our forecast this week,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31but not quite as much as that.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32Certainly no snow on Sunday -

0:00:32 > 0:00:34cloudy for most once again,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36another grey day, misty and foggy over the hills.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38Slightly lighter shade of grey into the afternoon,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40more in the way of damp weather to western Scotland

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and western parts of England and Wales.

0:00:42 > 0:00:43Brightest in the east of Wales,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45north-east England and eastern Scotland.

0:00:45 > 0:00:46Temperatures still above

0:00:46 > 0:00:48where they should be for January.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Let's take us through Sunday night and into Monday.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52We stick with that rather grey scene,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54but the breeze picking up,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55fog becoming less of an issue,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59But we start to see rain by the end of the night

0:00:59 > 0:01:01into western Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and with that, strong to gale-force winds.

0:01:03 > 0:01:04It's a mild night, again.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06A change in weather patterns from there on.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09The jet stream kicks into gear in the north Atlantic,

0:01:09 > 0:01:10creeping towards us.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13That's going to bring us some more disturbed weather

0:01:13 > 0:01:14for the rest of the week.

0:01:14 > 0:01:15First is this area of low pressure

0:01:15 > 0:01:18between us and Iceland, helping to throw down

0:01:18 > 0:01:19this weather front across the UK,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22behind which, there will be markedly colder air.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24So, for Monday, strong to gale-force winds,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26heavy rain start with, Scotland, Northern Ireland.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Wet and windy weather spreads southwards

0:01:28 > 0:01:29across England and Wales,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31turning a little bit light and patchy,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33especially across eastern areas, into the afternoon.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34South-westerly winds continue

0:01:34 > 0:01:36towards East Anglia and the south-east,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38double-figure temperatures, but further north,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40these are the highs for the day.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41I suspect, by the afternoon, only 4 or 5 Celsius,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43frequent showers, but some sunny spells.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46The winds get stronger still for a time on Monday night.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Gales and severe gales across the north,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50rain, sleet and hill snow,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52and we continue with that north-westerly wind

0:01:52 > 0:01:53into Tuesday.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55So, another cold-feeling day.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Best of the sunshine across eastern areas.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58Sunny spells in the west,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00but heavy showers with hail and thunder

0:02:00 > 0:02:02at times as well,

0:02:02 > 0:02:03temperatures starting to recover

0:02:03 > 0:02:05a little bit across western areas,

0:02:05 > 0:02:06at around 10 degrees, later.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07That's because we finish the day

0:02:07 > 0:02:09with more of a westerly run of winds again,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11coming off the Atlantic this time,

0:02:11 > 0:02:12and this developing system,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14which starts to develop towards us -

0:02:14 > 0:02:15a bit of uncertainty of timings -

0:02:15 > 0:02:18will bring much more cloud on Wednesday

0:02:18 > 0:02:19and outbreaks of rain.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20Some heavy bursts for a time

0:02:20 > 0:02:22and then, after a brief milder spell,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24it turns colder, with north-westerly winds later on.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27These are the highs, probably, during the morning.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29In the afternoon, it turns substantially colder.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31That's as this weather front works its way southwards,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34to end Wednesday and take us into Thursday.

0:02:34 > 0:02:35Follow the isobars back,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37they come all the way from the Arctic

0:02:37 > 0:02:38in some shape or form,

0:02:38 > 0:02:41and Thursday is the day some of you could see snow.

0:02:41 > 0:02:42It looks like we'll have a weather front

0:02:42 > 0:02:44bringing mainly rain across the south,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46but you get enough of a north-westerly wind

0:02:46 > 0:02:48digging into that later on, there could be a bit of sleet

0:02:48 > 0:02:50over higher ground, but frequent showers

0:02:50 > 0:02:52further north, a raw and icy day,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and those showers even falling as snow

0:02:54 > 0:02:55to lower levels.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57One to watch, and keep tuned to the forecast.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59It takes us into a cold spell, then,

0:02:59 > 0:03:00to run into next weekend.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03North-westerly winds, some wintry showers as well.

0:03:03 > 0:03:04One thing we'll have to watch

0:03:04 > 0:03:05is the chance of an area of low pressure

0:03:05 > 0:03:07just running down the west.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09That may bring a more substantial area of rain,

0:03:09 > 0:03:10and potentially hill snow,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12as that pushes its way southwards.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14But as we finish the weekend,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16going into the start of the following week,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18it's going to turn less cold once again,

0:03:18 > 0:03:19Atlantic winds push in.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Cloudier, but also wetter and windier.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24We swap the chance of snow

0:03:24 > 0:03:25for a little bit more in the way of rain.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28We'll keep you updated over the next few nights.

0:03:28 > 0:03:28Bye for now.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33It's back... Let's get ready to grumble. ..with more belligerence...

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Can you imagine anything more diabolical? ..moaning...

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Walking and eating. Sniffing.
