0:00:02 > 0:00:04The weather turns pretty lively over the next few days.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06We've got a fairly weak weather front

0:00:06 > 0:00:08drifting southwards and eastwards overnight tonight.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Weak in terms of not much rain on it,

0:00:10 > 0:00:11but, as it moves its way through,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14you can see all these isobars which follow along behind,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17turning very, very windy for the middle part of the week.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19It'll be blowing a gale pretty much all day

0:00:19 > 0:00:21northern England, northwards,

0:00:21 > 0:00:23and that may well have some implications for travel

0:00:23 > 0:00:25because some disruption is possible

0:00:25 > 0:00:28on ferries, high-sided vehicles, that sort of thing.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30But blowing a gale all day, northern England, northwards,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34gusting to 60, 70mph in places, so do bear that in mind.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37A fair number of showers coming in on that wind as well.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Turning wintry over the higher ground,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40in Scotland in particular.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Further south and east you go, showers are few and far between.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Seven or eight degrees here.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46But quite chilly further north - particularly in the wind.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49And the wind continues to blow Wednesday night into Thursday.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52The snow showers are starting to get down to quite low levels

0:00:52 > 0:00:54in Scotland and in Northern Ireland and in northern England too.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Again, the further south and east you are,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59it's largely fine and dry, but cold across the board.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01In fact, there'll be a touch of frost in northern England

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and further north as well,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05and maybe some icy patches to go with that.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06But some rain is gathering towards

0:01:06 > 0:01:08the south and west of the UK into Thursday.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11Question marks about just how far north it goes,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13but it looks like it will get across much of Wales

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and many southern counties of England as well.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Question marks, too, about how much cold air gets into the mix,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20and that has a knock-on effect on how much snow we'd like to see.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Likely to be at least some for South Wales,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24in the hills of southern England too,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26but a lot of rain as well.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28North of that, it's brighter, some sunny spells,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30but also some further wintry showers.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32It really will feel cold, particularly in the wind,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34it's going to feel more like it's around minus three

0:01:34 > 0:01:36in Glasgow and Newcastle.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38That first low moves away Thursday night into Friday.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Another low comes down from the North Sea

0:01:40 > 0:01:42as we get on into Friday.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Lots of isobars on the chart for the end of the week.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46It's a cold wind blowing down from the north.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Some wintry showers for the eastern and western coast,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51but inland, it should be cold but bright.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Top temperatures only about six or seven degrees,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56factor in in the wind again, and it will feel chilly.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58The wind continues to come down from the north

0:01:58 > 0:02:00as we head on into the weekend.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02This weak weather front won't bring too much

0:02:02 > 0:02:04in the way of rain, sleet or snow,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06but there might just be some along the eastern coast.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Head inland, and it's largely dry, variable cloud,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10some sunshine to be had,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12and it won't do much for the temperatures.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Again, it's another cold day. Just three degrees in Glasgow,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17only six or so for Cardiff and for London.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19As we head into the second part of the weekend,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21for the most part, things are settling down

0:02:21 > 0:02:24as this ridge of high pressure builds in, but not completely dry.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Looks like there will be some cloud and outbreaks of rain,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29particularly around some Irish Sea coast, into parts of Wales.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32May be some wetter weather, too, into Northern Ireland,

0:02:32 > 0:02:33and the odd spot of rain further south.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36But the further east you are, it looks dry and bright,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37but again, it's on the chilly side.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40We are still firmly in single figures across the board.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Then, as we had on into the early part of the coming week,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46we've got low pressure developing to the south and west of the UK.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48That's moving its way ever northwards and eastwards

0:02:48 > 0:02:52as high pressure begins to build in across the south of the UK.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54So, early next week, we could well see this low

0:02:54 > 0:02:56towards the north and the west of the UK.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58May well bring some brisk winds and some outbreaks of rain.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01Further south, much quieter with high pressure dominating.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Risk of frost and fog through the overnight periods.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08Signs are that the high will drift its way towards Scandinavia,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10and if that happens, on its southern flank,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12going to develop this cold easterly wind,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15and that, too, could bring some snow showers with it.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17But there is some uncertainty about the movement

0:03:17 > 0:03:20of that area of high pressure, but a lot of dry weather

0:03:20 > 0:03:22if it does do what I've just described,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25and it looks like it'll stay pretty cold for most places,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27and still the risk of some wintry showers.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29A further update same time tomorrow.
