0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. A lot going on with the weather over the next few days,
0:00:05 > 0:00:07and there are numerous Met Office weather warnings in force,
0:00:07 > 0:00:08so do bear that in mind,
0:00:08 > 0:00:10particularly if you have some travel plans.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13And that's certainly the case for the day on Thursday.
0:00:13 > 0:00:15Strong winds and some snow in the forecast
0:00:15 > 0:00:17may well hamper your travel plans,
0:00:17 > 0:00:22so stay tuned by keeping up-to-date on BBC local radio.
0:00:22 > 0:00:23Here's the big picture.
0:00:23 > 0:00:26Low pressure to the south of the UK, low pressure to the north of the UK.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29In between, quite a squeeze on those isobars.
0:00:29 > 0:00:31Another blustery day, particularly so in Scotland.
0:00:31 > 0:00:32Blowing a gale here, frequent wintry showers.
0:00:32 > 0:00:35Some wintry weather, too, Northern Ireland, northern England.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38Further south, a lot of rain, but as it bumps up into the cold air,
0:00:38 > 0:00:41may well turn to snow in parts of south-west England, South Wales
0:00:41 > 0:00:42and through the Midlands by the afternoon.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45Going to feel really cold, particularly in more northern parts,
0:00:45 > 0:00:48feeling like it's a good few degrees below freezing.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51Then, through the evening, a real ugly mix of rain, sleet and snow
0:00:51 > 0:00:53works its way through East Anglia and the south-east.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55Could see a few centimetres of snow lying on the ground
0:00:55 > 0:00:57by the end of the day.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59Then it clears away, turns really cold and really frosty
0:00:59 > 0:01:00with further wintry showers.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02By dawn on Friday, major towns and cities
0:01:02 > 0:01:05a degree or so either side of freezing.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07Rural spots will go several degrees below,
0:01:07 > 0:01:09so it'll be a cold, frosty, potentially icy start
0:01:09 > 0:01:11to the day on Friday.
0:01:11 > 0:01:14Friday itself, another windy day.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16Strong wind coming down from the north.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19It's going to bring some wintry showers to the western coast,
0:01:19 > 0:01:21northern coast and to the eastern coast as well.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24And a really strong wind down the North Sea coast,
0:01:24 > 0:01:25going to generate some very large waves.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28Could well be some overtopping of some of the coastal defences,
0:01:28 > 0:01:29so bear that in mind.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32Move inland and it looks like a pretty decent day -
0:01:32 > 0:01:33cold and windy.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35Five of six degrees on the face of it, but even
0:01:35 > 0:01:37in Cardiff and London, it'll feel it's around about freezing.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Further north, it'll feel like it's well below once again.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42Now, Friday night into Saturday,
0:01:42 > 0:01:44the winds are still coming in from the north-west,
0:01:44 > 0:01:46but the air is now coming in from the mid Atlantic,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48so turning things a little bit less cold from the west
0:01:48 > 0:01:50for the first part of the weekend,
0:01:50 > 0:01:52but with some cloud and some rain.
0:01:52 > 0:01:54But six to eight degrees here, brighter further east,
0:01:54 > 0:01:55but still really quite chilly -
0:01:55 > 0:01:58only twos and threes for that North Sea coast.
0:01:58 > 0:01:59The milder air is trying to come in.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02I think it will do for many for the second part of the weekend,
0:02:02 > 0:02:06but comes with a fair bit of cloud and rain.
0:02:06 > 0:02:08Looks like it'll be quite wet, actually, to start the day
0:02:08 > 0:02:10in the south-east of England, East Anglia too.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12But that rain becomes lighter with time.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14Turning milder from the west, though.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16Ten degrees for Belfast and Cardiff,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18sixes and sevens along the east coast.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20So, the milder air is trying to come in,
0:02:20 > 0:02:22but through Monday, again, there's going to be
0:02:22 > 0:02:26a fair bit of cloud and rain with that relatively mild air.
0:02:26 > 0:02:29The rain could be heavy for a time, and it'll be slow to get its way
0:02:29 > 0:02:31towards East Anglia and the far south-east,
0:02:31 > 0:02:32but I think it will do eventually.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35Again, we've got ten degrees for Plymouth and for Belfast,
0:02:35 > 0:02:38sixes and sevens for Newcastle and for Norwich.
0:02:38 > 0:02:41Now, as we head towards Monday night and on Tuesday,
0:02:41 > 0:02:44patchy rain fizzles out across the south-eastern corner of the UK,
0:02:44 > 0:02:45high pressure is building in,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48but there is a big low towards the north and west of the UK.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51That low may well bring some wind and some rain
0:02:51 > 0:02:55into the early part of next week across the north and west of the UK,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57but for many of us, high pressure will dominate.
0:02:57 > 0:02:59Underneath that, it could well be quite cold
0:02:59 > 0:03:01with some patchy frost and some fog.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04Later next week, looks like the high will drift a little bit
0:03:04 > 0:03:05towards the near continent,
0:03:05 > 0:03:07but its influence will still be felt on our shores,
0:03:07 > 0:03:09a cold, easterly wind for many.
0:03:09 > 0:03:12That could bring a few snow showers to the eastern coast.
0:03:12 > 0:03:13But towards the north and west later next week,
0:03:13 > 0:03:15it looks like it'll be relatively mild
0:03:15 > 0:03:17with cloud, wind and rain,
0:03:17 > 0:03:19quite cold and frosty further south and east.
0:03:19 > 0:03:21So, later next week, yes, unsettled in the north-west,
0:03:21 > 0:03:25a few wintry showers on the eastern side of England in particular
0:03:25 > 0:03:26and still some overnight fog,
0:03:26 > 0:03:29and it looks like it will be quite cold for most of us.
