1:00:21 > 1:00:24After all the recent issues with snow and ice and strong winds,
1:00:24 > 1:00:25you may be pleased to hear that we've got
1:00:25 > 1:00:27a quieter prospect through the week ahead.
1:00:27 > 1:00:29Fairly benign conditions.
1:00:29 > 1:00:31But in the short-term, we've still got a bit of a wintry issue
1:00:31 > 1:00:33with rain spreading in from the west,
1:00:33 > 1:00:36encountering cold air lodged across eastern England.
1:00:36 > 1:00:38We could see a period of sleet and snow
1:00:38 > 1:00:40for the likes of East Anglia, maybe the far south-east.
1:00:40 > 1:00:43Certainly some icy conditions here first thing in the morning.
1:00:43 > 1:00:45To the west of London, you'll notice temperatures
1:00:45 > 1:00:48that bit higher, so there'll be rain coming out of the sky
1:00:48 > 1:00:51at 10 o'clock in the morning. A damp and dreary Sunday morning.
1:00:51 > 1:00:53A lot of mist and murk up over the high ground as well.
1:00:53 > 1:00:55But it will be milder.
1:00:55 > 1:00:57Up to 7, 8, 9 degrees quite widely,
1:00:57 > 1:01:01and 10 degrees as we start today in Belfast.
1:01:01 > 1:01:03A bit chillier still across the east of Scotland.
1:01:03 > 1:01:05But for most places, it will feel milder
1:01:05 > 1:01:07than it has done for some time.
1:01:07 > 1:01:09The catch is it'll be damp and dreary.
1:01:09 > 1:01:12There will be some drier spells developing across eastern parts
1:01:12 > 1:01:15of England and also out west but through the central areas
1:01:15 > 1:01:17I'm expecting further pulses of rain.
1:01:17 > 1:01:20That's quite an important dividing line because to the west of that,
1:01:20 > 1:01:22it's going to be mild, double figures.
1:01:22 > 1:01:25To the east, that cold air hangs on through the afternoon.
1:01:25 > 1:01:28Just 2 degrees there in Norwich.
1:01:28 > 1:01:31As we head into the night, we'll continue to see these pulses of
1:01:31 > 1:01:34rain pushing through central parts of the UK
1:01:34 > 1:01:36and on into Monday as well,
1:01:36 > 1:01:38by which time, hopefully some brightness developing
1:01:38 > 1:01:41across parts of East Anglia and the south-east but not much in
1:01:41 > 1:01:43the way of sunshine for most of us.
1:01:43 > 1:01:46It does stay chilly, though, across these more eastern areas.
1:01:46 > 1:01:47Just 5 or 6 degrees typically,
1:01:47 > 1:01:51compared to the milder conditions further north and west.
1:01:51 > 1:01:53Now for Monday into Tuesday, I think much of the rain
1:01:53 > 1:01:54will tend to fade away.
1:01:54 > 1:01:56It'll continue across the far north for a time,
1:01:56 > 1:01:57courtesy of that weather front.
1:01:57 > 1:01:59High pressure beginning to build in,
1:01:59 > 1:02:02the weather starting to settle down, a lot of dry weather.
1:02:02 > 1:02:04Best of the sunshine across East Anglia and the south-east but
1:02:04 > 1:02:07ironically this is where the chilliest air will still be.
1:02:07 > 1:02:09Just 4, 5, 6 degrees,
1:02:09 > 1:02:11compared with the milder conditions further north and west.
1:02:11 > 1:02:14So that is the story through the early part of next week.
1:02:14 > 1:02:17Clear skies, yes, with some sunshine by day
1:02:17 > 1:02:19but some fairly sharp frosts.
1:02:19 > 1:02:22As low as -7 degrees perhaps in some rural areas.
1:02:22 > 1:02:24By day, with the help of some sunshine,
1:02:24 > 1:02:26we'll get up to around 5 or 6 degrees.
1:02:26 > 1:02:30Further north and west, it will be milder and, in fact,
1:02:30 > 1:02:33it'll feel quite pleasant, I think, with some sunshine,
1:02:33 > 1:02:35but there won't be much in the way of sunshine -
1:02:35 > 1:02:37a fair bit of cloud out there.
1:02:37 > 1:02:38Temperatures, though, doing pretty well,
1:02:38 > 1:02:41up into double figures in a good few places.
1:02:41 > 1:02:43By the time we reach the middle of the week,
1:02:43 > 1:02:46I think things starting to even themselves out a little bit.
1:02:46 > 1:02:49So not just as chilly across these more southern and eastern areas
1:02:49 > 1:02:52perhaps, and not just as mild across the north-west.
1:02:52 > 1:02:55So most places stuck in single figures.
1:02:55 > 1:02:56A fair bit of cloud around.
1:02:56 > 1:02:59Hopefully where you are, you'll see something in the way of brightness.
1:02:59 > 1:03:02Similarly on Thursday, there'll be lightish winds,
1:03:02 > 1:03:04mostly dry conditions, a fair bit of cloud,
1:03:04 > 1:03:06some glimpses of sunshine,
1:03:06 > 1:03:09and temperatures mid to high single figures typically.
1:03:09 > 1:03:13High pressure still in control, then, as we end the week.
1:03:13 > 1:03:15It's showing no signs of going anywhere fast.
1:03:15 > 1:03:18It is keeping the rain-bearing weather fronts mostly at bay,
1:03:18 > 1:03:20so a lot of dry weather out there.
1:03:20 > 1:03:23And that's because we've got a huge, great block in the jet stream.
1:03:23 > 1:03:28The jet being diverted well to the north and to the east of the UK,
1:03:28 > 1:03:30keeping those rain-bearing weather fronts well at bay.
1:03:30 > 1:03:33And whilst we've got that big kink in the jet stream,
1:03:33 > 1:03:36that high pressure is liable to stay in residence.
1:03:36 > 1:03:40So a mostly dry prospect through next weekend, lightish winds,
1:03:40 > 1:03:42where the skies clear, we could see some frost
1:03:42 > 1:03:45and perhaps some patches of fog floating around as well.
1:03:45 > 1:03:47That's it. I'll update you again tomorrow.
