0:00:01 > 0:00:03Hello. Changes in the weather for the next six to ten days

0:00:03 > 0:00:05are going to be very slow changes

0:00:05 > 0:00:09because we have got anticyclonic conditions dominating.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11But I suppose the biggest piece of weather news

0:00:11 > 0:00:13that broke on Wednesday was the fact that

0:00:13 > 0:00:15it has been confirmed, the figures are in,

0:00:15 > 0:00:20and 2016, globally, was the warmest on record.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Which takes us back to what Nick was telling you about

0:00:23 > 0:00:25if you were watching yesterday evening,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27that so far this winter, the UK, at least,

0:00:27 > 0:00:29has been a little milder than average, and drier.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Now, that said, it's not too far away

0:00:32 > 0:00:35that we've got some very cold air indeed.

0:00:35 > 0:00:40Severe and harsh winter weather is dominating across much of Europe,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43and we are very close by, as you can see,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45to the western edge of that cold weather.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49It's that cold we've seen snow on the beaches in Valencia in Spain.

0:00:49 > 0:00:53And we will still be affected across southern areas on Thursday morning.

0:00:53 > 0:00:58For the majority, the cloud is keeping things relatively mild.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59But there'll be pockets of frost elsewhere,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01but mainly in the south.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05And that will be the story over the coming few days.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08So, for most of us, it is a very similar weather scenario

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Thursday to Wednesday.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12There'll be subtle differences, as there always are.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Some mist and fog in the morning, and this is low cloud anyway,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16so hill fog will prevail.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18And then we could have a bit more cloud

0:01:18 > 0:01:20coming into East Anglia, for example.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22But some more breaks in the cloud in the north of Scotland.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24And whilst earlier in the week,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26we struggled at three or four in the south,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27we may get to six or seven.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29So we have evened our spread of temperatures

0:01:29 > 0:01:31a little bit in the past 24 hours.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34And that will continue through Thursday night into Friday.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38So Friday morning, again, we get the frost mostly in the south,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40which is where we'll see the best of the sunshine.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43But there will be some pockets of frost and sunshine elsewhere.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44And of course, some fog,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46which at this time of year takes a while to clear.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49And we basically keep that weather pattern until the weekend.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52If anything, I think we will see the cloud thinning,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54and there will be a little bit more sunshine coming through,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57which means some colder nights, more widespread frost

0:01:57 > 0:02:00not as limited, if you like, to southern areas.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02And therefore, it will be colder by day,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05it will take a little while longer for those temperatures to get up.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07They will be more like fours and fives

0:02:07 > 0:02:09than sixes and sevens, potentially.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11The reason? Well, high pressure is still with us.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15We're just starting to feed in a little bit of that colder air

0:02:15 > 0:02:17not too faraway, as I mentioned earlier.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Similar story on Sunday.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Very little rain and drizzle - just in the north and west.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Again, after the chilly start, temperatures are only lifting

0:02:24 > 0:02:27to four or five degrees, so a little bit below par.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30And it is very little change, really, as we head into Monday.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33As you can see, again, it is four to six degrees Celsius.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37We do start to see a strengthening in the wind towards the north-west,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39the approach of a weather front,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41and the approach of that weather front

0:02:41 > 0:02:43will start to bring about a change

0:02:43 > 0:02:45through the early part of next week.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47But it is a very, very slow process.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49So that is low pressure

0:02:49 > 0:02:51starting to whisk in across the North Atlantic

0:02:51 > 0:02:52allowing the weather fronts to come in

0:02:52 > 0:02:55in this wedge of slightly milder air.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59But, dominating either side of that, the cold air.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01And you can see that really is dominant -

0:03:01 > 0:03:04even early next week - across much of Europe.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08It's dense air, it's cold air, it takes a while to clear away.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12And how quickly that low pressure moves into the UK

0:03:12 > 0:03:15depends on how quickly we can start to clear

0:03:15 > 0:03:18that cold air across western parts of Europe.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20So, yes, that is the uncertainty, really, in the forecast.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23Eventually, it looks as if we will see rain from the north and west,

0:03:23 > 0:03:27but until then, some more chilly nights and chilly days.
