0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. If you were watching yesterday evening,

0:00:04 > 0:00:05I was telling you about how quiet

0:00:05 > 0:00:07the weather picture is at the moment.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09We've got high pressure sat across the country and that

0:00:09 > 0:00:12will stay with us, certainly for the next six days and for some,

0:00:12 > 0:00:14beyond that as well.

0:00:14 > 0:00:15Of course, we've got that harsh,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18winter cold weather across continental Europe and that

0:00:18 > 0:00:21has been creeping into the UK and that process will continue

0:00:21 > 0:00:22in the coming few days.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23But with it,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25we've seen some lovely sunshine.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Crisp weather as you saw there in London.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30However, we've got a weak weather front across the country

0:00:30 > 0:00:32so we're seeing some quite significant contrast as you

0:00:32 > 0:00:33saw there in Derbyshire.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36Of course, the cloud does mean that it will be a mild night for many,

0:00:36 > 0:00:39but where the cloud breaks, perhaps the Vale of York, the north and east

0:00:39 > 0:00:42and particularly across the southern half of the country,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44there will be a harsh frost.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45-6 again, -7.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Plus we'll have some fog.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49But once it does clear,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52the sunshine looks more abundant as we head into Friday morning.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Do watch out for some freezing fog across central areas first thing

0:00:55 > 0:00:56and perhaps the north-east.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58But there is a better chance of brighter weather for

0:00:58 > 0:00:59Northern Ireland, for Wales,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02the north Midlands, Lincolnshire compared with recent days.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05But it won't be warm, 5 or 6 degrees generally.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Over the weekend, those temperatures will lower.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10As I mentioned, we're pulling in that colder, continental air.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13So, again, Friday night into Saturday looks cold and again

0:01:13 > 0:01:15there's a risk of some freezing,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18patchy freezing fog as we head into Saturday morning.

0:01:18 > 0:01:19Again, there's little wind to clear it,

0:01:19 > 0:01:23but it should eventually clear, then we will see some sunshine.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24But there is a weak weather front.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26That weak weather front still with us throughout the weekend.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Actually, through the weekend,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30it might give us a little bit of sleet and snow.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Just a few flurries, just letting us know winter is still with us,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35but no significant amounts, we don't feel.

0:01:35 > 0:01:39Still, only 4 or 5 degrees. It will be a cold weekend.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42But a usable weekend because it should be mainly dry

0:01:42 > 0:01:44with some sunshine.

0:01:44 > 0:01:45But chilly by day and chilly by night.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48And that's the way we start the new week.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50But we're moistening up the air somewhat through the weekend

0:01:50 > 0:01:52and the early part of the week.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56So fog is likely to become more of an issue and just in time

0:01:56 > 0:01:58for the return to work on Monday, for the rush hour.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01There could be some quite dense and fairly widespread patches

0:02:01 > 0:02:02of fog Monday morning.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Freezing fog, of course, because we'll have those frosts by night.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09These are daytime temperatures - 4s and 5s. Still pretty nippy.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Tuesday, still the same across the bulk of the UK, but towards

0:02:12 > 0:02:15the north and west, we're dragging in the south-westerly wind.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18More cloud, milder Atlantic air and some rain,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20but it doesn't really amount to anything.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22But it's the first go, if you like,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25it's the first low pressure and weather system to have a go at

0:02:25 > 0:02:28clearing out this dominant area of high pressure which

0:02:28 > 0:02:31has been with us all this week.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34That cold air across the continent really has established itself.

0:02:34 > 0:02:35It's got a lot of inertia.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39We've got to really work to move that high pressure out the way.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41You can see what an area it covers.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43But, as we go through the early part of the week,

0:02:43 > 0:02:47we will find that these low pressures are starting to push in.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Their momentum starting to move the rain and the stronger winds

0:02:50 > 0:02:52into the north-west of the UK.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56So there's still high pressure and still that cold, continental feel.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00But gradually, we'll get the milder Atlantic winds,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04at least into the north and west and it's how quickly those start

0:03:04 > 0:03:08to erode that area of high pressure which will determine

0:03:08 > 0:03:12how quickly we see our weather change from this cold, crisp,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15sunny weather to the rainy, wet weather in the north and west.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18It will take quite a significant area of low pressure to move

0:03:18 > 0:03:21it out the way and it does look like later next week we will have

0:03:21 > 0:03:25some gales or severe gales moving in with some rain.

0:03:25 > 0:03:26But, for the meantime,

0:03:26 > 0:03:30fog particularly becoming a problem, more frosty nights.
