0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello, it's proving to be a weekend of huge variety
0:00:03 > 0:00:06up and down the UK. Though with one common denominator,
0:00:06 > 0:00:08as we'll see in a moment. I'll show you what I mean
0:00:08 > 0:00:11with the help of some weather-watcher pictures actually.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13Some hard, hard frosts around, temperatures well below freezing
0:00:13 > 0:00:16in some places overnight. For others we've seen
0:00:16 > 0:00:18a whole lot of sunshine by day - this beautiful shot taken
0:00:18 > 0:00:22from Cumbria on Saturday. There have been some areas of mist
0:00:22 > 0:00:25and thicker fog patches persisting all day in some places,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27this shot taken from the Central Belt of Scotland.
0:00:27 > 0:00:30And for others it's stayed disappointingly gloomy
0:00:30 > 0:00:33for much of the time, as we've seen here in mid-Wales.
0:00:33 > 0:00:37But for all of us the common theme is - it's cold out there.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40Now there is milder air lying in wait out in the Atlantic,
0:00:41 > 0:00:45the big question mark is - how quickly will it get to our shores?
0:00:45 > 0:00:47As the milder air arrives we'll see these weather fronts
0:00:47 > 0:00:51delivering some wind and some and rain. Actually, a few showers,
0:00:51 > 0:00:54even on Sunday, across the more northern and western areas.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57No great amount but there's snow coming out of some of those showers,
0:00:57 > 0:00:59especially up over the high ground but for many places
0:00:59 > 0:01:02it will stay dry and there'll be plenty of sunshine
0:01:02 > 0:01:05across the more southern and eastern parts of England in particular.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08Here's a snapshot - three o'clock in the afternoon.
0:01:08 > 0:01:10Lovely afternoon if you wear a few layers.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13Might make eight degrees along the south coast but for most of us
0:01:13 > 0:01:16four or five is the best I can offer you briefly,
0:01:16 > 0:01:18through the early to mid part of the afternoon.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21There's that cloud further north and west. The odd shower,
0:01:21 > 0:01:24maybe a flake or two of snow up over the Pennines
0:01:24 > 0:01:27and parts of southern Scotland too. Some breaks in the cloud, though,
0:01:27 > 0:01:29for Northern Ireland and most of Scotland will be dry,
0:01:29 > 0:01:32though we could see some of those fog patches lingering
0:01:32 > 0:01:34well on through the day.
0:01:34 > 0:01:37Talking of fog, that's going to become more of an issue through
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Sunday night and into Monday morning, particularly
0:01:40 > 0:01:45across the southern half of the UK, some really thick patches around.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48Not just on Monday, but on Tuesday as well. On Tuesday
0:01:48 > 0:01:51it could be even more of a problem. I'm expecting some disruption,
0:01:51 > 0:01:54particularly through England and Wales, so watch out for
0:01:54 > 0:01:57warnings, they could well be issued over the next few hours.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Now, once the fog has cleared, and it might not in some places,
0:02:00 > 0:02:03there will be some brightness around but it will be chilly.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06Further north and west, for Northern Ireland and Scotland,
0:02:06 > 0:02:09more breeze here. Milder weather beginning to come in
0:02:09 > 0:02:12off the Atlantic. The milder air also bringing more moisture
0:02:12 > 0:02:17and the prospect of some rain at some stage later on in the week.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19But again, on Wednesday many places will be dry.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22Some rain across Western Scotland but elsewhere dry.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25The lightest of the winds across these more southern and
0:02:25 > 0:02:28eastern areas but that chilly air holding on.
0:02:28 > 0:02:30Now, through the second half of this week,
0:02:30 > 0:02:33these fronts begin to push their way eastwards
0:02:33 > 0:02:35but boy it's going to be a struggle. Which does mean there's
0:02:35 > 0:02:39a big question mark about how quickly those fronts arrive from
0:02:39 > 0:02:41the west and how quickly the milder air arrives as well.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44So, I've put later in the week, rather than being specific about
0:02:44 > 0:02:48Thursday or Friday. But the idea is that those fronts are staggering
0:02:48 > 0:02:51from the east. The wind will pick up so that will tend to clear the
0:02:51 > 0:02:54fog away but still a lot of dry weather across these more
0:02:54 > 0:02:56central and eastern areas in particular,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58that chilly air holding on.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01But I think as we hit the weekend, and indeed beyond,
0:03:01 > 0:03:04a strengthening jet stream should push those fronts through
0:03:04 > 0:03:07and then we're into a sort of different regime as we end
0:03:07 > 0:03:08the month.
0:03:08 > 0:03:12Quite a powerful jet stream, particularly across the more
0:03:12 > 0:03:15northern parts of the UK and this will be the focus for where the
0:03:15 > 0:03:18rain-bearing weather systems will be. So to sum up the end of the
0:03:18 > 0:03:20month, it will turn milder with winds off the Atlantic.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23Wettest across the more northern and western areas,
0:03:23 > 0:03:26where there will be a strong wind. Always driest the further south
0:03:26 > 0:03:29and east we go. That's it, I'll update you again tomorrow.
0:03:31 > 0:03:34I've lost weight, in't I? Aye, you're looking good.
0:03:34 > 0:03:36I'm the Night Owl.
0:03:36 > 0:03:38I'd wear this for pyjamas in my bed.
