0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. It's been a relatively quiet winter so far,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07certainly not as stormy as last winter, nor as wet and windy.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11There hasn't been that much snowfall, a lot of dry weather.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13There have been periods of frost and fog,

0:00:13 > 0:00:16and the fog is back with a vengeance now.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18The next couple of days, it could be a real problem.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Some disruption possible. There are warnings out from the Met Office.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Check out your BBC local radio station or go online for the

0:00:23 > 0:00:25latest details where you are.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27The worst of the fog on Monday probably across

0:00:27 > 0:00:29more south-eastern parts of the UK.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31Where you've got fog, it could stick around for much of the day,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34keeping it particularly chilly, but that said,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36actually a lot of fine weather out there on Monday, and

0:00:36 > 0:00:39hopefully where you are you'll see something in the way of sunshine.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42And with light winds, temperatures will bounce back quite nicely.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45Seven to nine degrees cross parts of the West Country should feel

0:00:45 > 0:00:46very nice indeed.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Where the fog and the murk linger, it'll be a different story.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Some eastern areas will struggle to get much above freezing.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54So a lot of variety in temperatures

0:00:54 > 0:00:56depending on how much sunshine you see.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Further north and west, there's some fine weather around, a few lingering

0:00:59 > 0:01:01fog patches, but for the vast majority it shouldn't be too bad.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03This is three o'clock in the afternoon.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Not exactly warm, but with light winds and some sunshine,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07it shouldn't feel too bad.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10As we head into the evening and night, with light winds,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13that's going to allow the fog to re-form again,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15not necessarily in exactly the same areas.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18It looks as if some central and perhaps northern parts of

0:01:18 > 0:01:21England could be prone to some thicker fog by Tuesday morning.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23A different story for Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26patchy rain pushing in from the west and a breeze here.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29And that will introduce some milder air, actually,

0:01:29 > 0:01:30to Scotland, Northern Ireland.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31Double figures in some places

0:01:31 > 0:01:33in the western fringes of England and Wales.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Further south and east, despite some sunshine,

0:01:35 > 0:01:39once the fog clears, it will again be quite chilly.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41As we head towards the middle of the week,

0:01:41 > 0:01:45just notice how the isobars get closer together. That's a good sign.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49That means the winds will freshen up, clearing most of the fog,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51so fog shouldn't be so much of an issue on Wednesday, we think.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Particularly strong winds across the north-west,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56with this approaching weather front bringing some patchy rain

0:01:56 > 0:01:58into the west of Scotland in particular,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00but again mild across the north-west, double figures,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03chilly despite some sunshine further south and east.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05And that theme will continue to Thursday.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08In fact, we're going to start to tap into some colder air from the

0:02:08 > 0:02:11near Continent around that block of high pressure still.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14I think Thursday could be a particularly raw day,

0:02:14 > 0:02:18with those cold winds, and despite some sunshine across some

0:02:18 > 0:02:20central and eastern parts of England in particular,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22temperatures will struggle to get

0:02:22 > 0:02:25much higher than, what, two or three degrees.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29Further west, it won't exactly be warm, with a stiff southerly wind,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32but the wind will again push those weather fronts offshore,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35so for the majority of us again on Thursday it should be a dry day.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39Big question marks by the end of the week as to how quickly these fronts

0:02:39 > 0:02:41push in again, so don't take the position of this too literally.

0:02:41 > 0:02:45It could be further west or east, but patchy rain trying to push in.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Having said that, many eastern areas will again have a dry day,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50albeit quite a chilly one.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53It does look as if by the weekend the fronts will start to push in

0:02:53 > 0:02:54across the country.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57How quickly that happens is very uncertain,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00but what they will introduce eventually is an Atlantic feed,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04milder winds, driven by a strengthening jet stream

0:03:04 > 0:03:05through this weekend.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09The jet stream is focused across the north-west of the UK,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11and actually, beyond the weekend,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14this is where most of the wet and windy weather will be.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Furthest away from the jet stream, it stays mostly dry.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20So as we end the month, it does look like a north-west/south-east split.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23Certainly milder than recently, wettest and windiest across

0:03:23 > 0:03:25the north-west, but further south

0:03:25 > 0:03:29and east, this dry winter continues. I'll update you again tomorrow.
