0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Weather Watchers have been helping to paint

0:00:04 > 0:00:06a very varied picture of the weather through this winter.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08Not much rain, but even in the last 24 hours,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10we've seen quite a lot of variety up and down the UK.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Some lovely sunshine for some.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15This shot of the sunset in Pembrokeshire

0:00:15 > 0:00:17taken earlier on. For others, though,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19it's stayed persistently foggy.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Where the fog lingered, it was chilly.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23In some places, that'll be the case again tomorrow.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25That fog thickening up overnight.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Freezing fog could be quite disruptive by morning time.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Check out your BBC local radio station

0:00:30 > 0:00:32or go online for the latest details where you are.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34There are warnings in force from the Met Office.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35You can see where most of the fog will be.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37We think across some central and southern parts

0:00:37 > 0:00:39of England and Wales through the morning.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Most of it clearing, but not all of it.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Some of it will linger. Having said that,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45for many parts of England and Wales,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47through the afternoon, we'll see some sunshine.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Temperatures not spectacularly high,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52but with light winds, it shouldn't feel too bad,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55out of those persistent foggy areas, that is.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Further north across the country,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59we encounter temperatures a little bit higher,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01particularly further into Scotland

0:01:01 > 0:01:02and Northern Ireland.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04Up into double figures in some places here.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07More cloud around and some patchy rain,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09particularly up over the western hills,

0:01:09 > 0:01:10but no great amount.

0:01:10 > 0:01:1210 degrees in Belfast.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Now, as we fast-forward to Wednesday,

0:01:15 > 0:01:16the wind picking up even more

0:01:16 > 0:01:18across some northern and western areas.

0:01:18 > 0:01:19Still a fair bit of cloud,

0:01:19 > 0:01:20but the rain-bearing fronts,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22for the most part, kept at bay.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23Further south and east,

0:01:23 > 0:01:24again, it could be a foggy start

0:01:24 > 0:01:26across some eastern counties of England,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28but I think most of that fog will lift.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30It shouldn't be as much of an issue.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31Again, the brightness not feeling too bad,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33but an edge to that wind -

0:01:33 > 0:01:34just 4 degrees, for example, in Norwich.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36That's a sign of things to come,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38because as we head into Thursday,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41we're going to start to tap into a reservoir

0:01:41 > 0:01:44of really chilly air across Europe.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Much of Europe is still freezing cold.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49That really cold air is going to get dragged up

0:01:49 > 0:01:52across the UK during the course of Thursday

0:01:52 > 0:01:54on a stiff old wind coming in from the south-east.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Wind chill will be high,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59and some parts of central and eastern England,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02for example, may struggle to get above freezing

0:02:02 > 0:02:03all day long. A bitter day.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05It could be one of the coldest days of the winter so far,

0:02:05 > 0:02:06in actual fact.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07Still, that breeze coming in

0:02:07 > 0:02:08from the south-east on Friday.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Probably not as chilly by then,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12and there are fronts out to the west as well,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14which might just bring a little rain

0:02:14 > 0:02:15into westernmost areas,

0:02:15 > 0:02:19but most places on Friday will stay dry.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20Still distinctly chilly

0:02:20 > 0:02:21across those more eastern areas,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23but probably not just as bitter

0:02:23 > 0:02:25as it will be on Thursday.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27On into Saturday.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Now, the wind starting to drift in from the west.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33That is an indicator of milder conditions,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35notice 10 degrees in London.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39Across the board, temperatures will be higher on Saturday,

0:02:39 > 0:02:40many of us still dry.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43That milder theme will continue.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46See the blue is beginning to retreat further away

0:02:46 > 0:02:48into the near continent.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50We look to the west for our weather

0:02:50 > 0:02:53as we go through this weekend and indeed beyond.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56The jet stream is going to start to steer weather systems

0:02:56 > 0:02:57in from the Atlantic.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Most potent of these will be across the north-west of the UK,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03closest to the jet stream.

0:03:03 > 0:03:04Very little if any rain, you'll notice,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07further south and east across the country,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09as we look into the early part of next week.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12In fact, as the month changes, as we head into February,

0:03:12 > 0:03:13it's a similar pattern.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15It will be milder than recently

0:03:15 > 0:03:16with that Atlantic influence.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Wettest and windiest across the north-west,

0:03:19 > 0:03:20but still mostly dry

0:03:20 > 0:03:22across those more southern

0:03:22 > 0:03:23and eastern areas.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25I will explore that dry theme

0:03:25 > 0:03:26in a bit more detail

0:03:26 > 0:03:28if you join me again tomorrow.
