0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Well, most of us have experienced quite a change

0:00:04 > 0:00:07to the weather in the last 24, 48 hours.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11It's still pretty cold across many northern areas of the UK.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Here's a picture from weather watcher John

0:00:13 > 0:00:14from the Scottish Borders.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17Cloudy, 2 degrees. There's even been some sleet.

0:00:17 > 0:00:18But further south across the UK,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20that's where the milder air has reached.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23We've had some sunshine, but also some big clouds,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25and these cumulus clouds eventually grew

0:00:25 > 0:00:28to produce some thunderstorms, even hailstorms,

0:00:28 > 0:00:29across some parts of the country.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31So the weather is going to be very mixed in the week ahead,

0:00:31 > 0:00:35so you'll need your brolly at times, but steady in the wind.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38At least one thing's for sure - it is turning a lot, lot milder.

0:00:38 > 0:00:39Even across northern parts of the UK

0:00:39 > 0:00:42will experience those milder conditions

0:00:42 > 0:00:43at least by the middle of the week.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46So you can get a sense that a lot's happening across the Atlantic,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48clouds are racing through,

0:00:48 > 0:00:51whereas eastern parts of Europe, very sort of still,

0:00:51 > 0:00:54high pressure still dominating, that's where the weather's stuck,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56that's where it's still relatively cold.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59But the weather fronts making their way across the country

0:00:59 > 0:01:00during the course of Sunday,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02bringing outbreaks of rain so, you know,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05we've lost the cold weather, but unfortunately,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07that does mean that the weather will turn a little ugly

0:01:07 > 0:01:09across some southern areas.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Lots of grey cloud, outbreaks of rain.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Not everybody's taste.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Northern areas - this is Sunday, middle of the afternoon -

0:01:16 > 0:01:18you can see some sunshine there for Scotland,

0:01:18 > 0:01:19just about, before sunset.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22Also the north-east of England enjoying some sun. But look at that.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Many parts, from Northern Ireland into Wales,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27the Midlands and the south, getting that rain.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30I suspect the heaviest of the rain will fall across Wales

0:01:30 > 0:01:34and the south-west, as is often the case in this situation.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36But still chilly in Newcastle there and Aberdeen.

0:01:36 > 0:01:37Only 4 to 6 degrees,

0:01:37 > 0:01:41but that milder weather reaching south-western areas.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Now, let's take a look at Monday's weather forecast.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46A big area of low pressure starts to form.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48In fact, a couple there across the Atlantic.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51That means that the winds will start to increase,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53they'll start to push in yet more cloud

0:01:53 > 0:01:54and little bits and pieces of rain,

0:01:54 > 0:01:58so weak weather front, I think, across many western areas on Monday.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01But ahead of that, lots of grey cloud,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03so it'll be a grey, drizzly day

0:02:03 > 0:02:06with mist and maybe some fog in places as well.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09But temperatures up to 12 degrees there in Plymouth.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12And then on Tuesday, another weather front comes in,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15brings outbreaks of rain to western areas, but look at that.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18That milder air has finally reached northern parts of the UK,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21and it's behind this weather front here.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23All of this here is a lot milder,

0:02:23 > 0:02:27stronger winds coming all the way from the more southern climes here,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30so I think Wednesday, not just milder,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32but probably the best day of the week with some sunshine.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35There might be a little bit of early rain across eastern areas

0:02:35 > 0:02:39and then later in the day some rain in, I think, the far north-west,

0:02:39 > 0:02:42but on balance, probably the best day of the week.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44And then Thursday, and eventually into Friday,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46a major area of low pressure develops

0:02:46 > 0:02:48just to the west of our neighbourhood.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Again, increasing winds and a chance of some rain,

0:02:51 > 0:02:55particularly across western and northern areas.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58So broadly speaking, late next week, into the weekend,

0:02:58 > 0:03:02that big low pressure's just towards the west of us,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04sending stronger winds, perhaps gale-force winds,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06across some western areas,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09but that more settled weather's way towards the east.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11And next weekend, no change.

0:03:11 > 0:03:12At the moment, the thinking is

0:03:12 > 0:03:16we'll keep that unsettled weather with air coming off the ocean,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17so it'll feel relatively mild.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19So, let's summarise all of that.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21You will need your umbrella at times,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23but steady in those stronger winds,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25and there'll be a little bit of cold weather from time to time,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28maybe, between those bands of rain, particularly at night. Bye-bye.
