0:00:02 > 0:00:05Good evening. Thursday brought rain to pretty much all of the UK,

0:00:05 > 0:00:06but the winds were the story.

0:00:06 > 0:00:10Severe gales through the Irish Sea really whipped up some large waves

0:00:10 > 0:00:11and caused some power outages.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14There's a potential for more severe gales on Friday.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18So more conditions like this. Possibly slightly different areas.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21For the weekend, it might well quieten down. Not as active weather.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Still a little bit of rain and strong winds around,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26but we might see some chillier mornings and more sunshine.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28But not for long.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32It's back to the wind and rain early next week and from the middle

0:00:32 > 0:00:37of the week onwards, we might start to return to that colder,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40and more settled weather that we had just last week before things

0:00:40 > 0:00:42turned much more unsettled.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44That's still looking on the cards.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46But at the moment, the weather fronts, the bands of cloud,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49they're lined up from Iberia right the way out to the east coast

0:00:49 > 0:00:53of the United States. So we've got further bands of rain yet to come.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55We've certainly had a good,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57severe gale from this low pressure through Thursday.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59We've got another winding itself up.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02There are amber warnings out for northern France.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03That looks really stormy here.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07It could well also bring some severe gale-force winds to

0:01:07 > 0:01:08the southern half of the UK.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11So, Friday may dawn on a fairly decent note with some sunshine.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13It might stay that way in the north.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16But already, through the morning, the winds are whipping up in

0:01:16 > 0:01:18the south-west bringing in that heavy rain.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Really quite heavy rain for a time as well.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23Let's focus, though, on those winds that we've been talking about.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25The potential is there for the Channel Islands,

0:01:25 > 0:01:29the south coast, gusts to 70mph which will cause some disruption.

0:01:29 > 0:01:3150mph inland.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34And then also 50mph inland across south-eastern areas,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36East Anglia, Lincolnshire later.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38That's likely to cause some disruption in these areas.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42Could even be some snow over the Welsh mountains as well.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44So it's a really active weather day on Friday.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46If you have plans, stay tuned to the forecast,

0:01:46 > 0:01:47the warnings are on the website.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Through the night, that low pressure transfers to Scotland,

0:01:50 > 0:01:51parts of Northern Ireland.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54We've got another low pressure just drifting towards the south.

0:01:54 > 0:01:55So we could have some more rain

0:01:55 > 0:01:58across southern counties on Saturday.

0:01:58 > 0:01:59Another storm for France.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01It looks a wetter day for Scotland.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04But, again, away from those areas,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06mild but it still looks mostly dry.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08And we can say that about Sunday.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10The rain hopefully staying offshore of Eastern Scotland.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12A bit breezy here, but drier.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14There's the potential for some rain

0:02:14 > 0:02:15across southern counties of England.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18But, at the moment, elsewhere, despite having a chilly,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20frosty start, it looks fairly decent.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22And that ridge of high pressure takes us into the start of

0:02:22 > 0:02:23the new week.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26But this next big area of low pressure,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29which dominates most of the Atlantic, is starting to take over.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33The difference is it's starting to be blocked by these easterly winds

0:02:33 > 0:02:35and high pressure across Scandinavia.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38So it'll be a slow progress that that weather front makes

0:02:38 > 0:02:40through Monday and into Tuesday.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Coming into the colder air, so some snow on its forward edge,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45potentially. And several hours of wet weather.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Fairly strong winds as well with showers following.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50But what we'll find through the middle part of the week is

0:02:50 > 0:02:54that the low pressure is progressively steered towards

0:02:54 > 0:02:55the north-west of the UK,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58which means they'll have less influence on our weather, less wind,

0:02:58 > 0:03:02less rain as this high pressure re-establishes itself with

0:03:02 > 0:03:04its cold, dense air.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07So that will block our weather fronts from moving in to

0:03:07 > 0:03:08the north and the west

0:03:08 > 0:03:11and the cold, easterly winds will ensure that we see

0:03:11 > 0:03:15a return to frosts and potentially some fog with lighter winds.

0:03:15 > 0:03:16And, of course, some sunshine.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19But, eventually, it will become a cloudy high, we think,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21so there won't be as much sunshine around.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22So it starts mild, wet and windy.

0:03:22 > 0:03:26We've got that quieter weekend and eventually the colder weather

0:03:26 > 0:03:28winning through by the end of next week.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Bye-bye.
