0:00:02 > 0:00:03Thanks for joining me.

0:00:03 > 0:00:05Before I talk about the weather for the week ahead, I want to

0:00:05 > 0:00:11show you this bullet that we dodged in the last 24 hours or so.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13This nasty storm slammed into France,

0:00:13 > 0:00:17bringing gusts of 92mph, very bad weather inland too -

0:00:17 > 0:00:20hundreds of thousands of people without power.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24And now there's another storm heading to France,

0:00:24 > 0:00:25a similar path as well.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28This one isn't going to be quite so bad, but it's just to

0:00:28 > 0:00:31the south of us, we're talking about a few hundred miles.

0:00:31 > 0:00:35Instead, what we've got is just a few showers, so we're very,

0:00:35 > 0:00:40very lucky to dodge those two nasty storms.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Not so good for France, of course.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45This is how Sunday looks like in the morning, so pretty nippy,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48a lot of cloud, mist and drizzle in places as well.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51And then Sunday itself, a mix of weather around.

0:00:51 > 0:00:52There will be a fair bit of cloud around,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55but I think the best of any sunshine will be across these more

0:00:55 > 0:00:58northern areas, certainly the north of Scotland, Moray, Aberdeenshire.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59The rest of us,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02call it partly cloudy skies and there'll be some showers

0:01:02 > 0:01:06around Northern Ireland, Wales, down into the south-west as well.

0:01:06 > 0:01:10And then Sunday night into Monday, the skies are going to clear.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12This is pretty chilly air sat on top of us,

0:01:12 > 0:01:16so that means that first thing on Monday it is going to be nippy.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19We're in for a frost, but there's also rain on the way.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22This big area of low pressure will be swinging out of

0:01:22 > 0:01:25the Atlantic and bringing some big weather fronts in our direction.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27That means a lot of cloud and rain.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28So through the morning,

0:01:28 > 0:01:32increasing clouds in Northern Ireland, Wales and the south-west.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Meanwhile, we've got that clear, frosty,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38much calmer start across most of Scotland and England.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Then through the morning into the afternoon you can see how

0:01:40 > 0:01:44that rain nudges ever eastwards, so the country's quite literally

0:01:44 > 0:01:47split in half - a wet west, much drier east,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50and I think it's going to stay dry in the east through most of Monday.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Then on Tuesday, the reverse is true,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56so eastern areas have that weather front which is straddling

0:01:56 > 0:01:59that coastline, so it's staying cloudy, cold and grey here,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02whereas these western areas, a little bit more sunshine and

0:02:02 > 0:02:05maybe one or two showers thrown in as well.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07And still pretty chilly - only six degrees there in Newcastle,

0:02:07 > 0:02:10and if it's going to be raining with a breeze off the North Sea,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12not a pleasant picture.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16And then on Wednesday, the remnants of that weather front still

0:02:16 > 0:02:17in the east, so I think a lot of cloud.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20There won't be much rain but the best of the weather

0:02:20 > 0:02:21will be across western areas.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24And then we've got another front trying to push our way,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27and it will be nudging in the direction of

0:02:27 > 0:02:31Northern Ireland, western Scotland, only very, very slowly.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34So this is another area of low pressure that's trying to

0:02:34 > 0:02:36push in and bring us some cloud and rain.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40The reason why it's so slow, because it kind of almost stalls here,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43is because of this area of high pressure.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45High pressures are like blocks, they're like stones -

0:02:45 > 0:02:48they stop weather fronts coming in and low pressures.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Look at that, it tries to come in. In fact, that low retracts.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54So, that high, and we call it a blocking high,

0:02:54 > 0:02:58it blocks the weather, that blocking high is with us by next weekend.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00There's some cold, pretty cloudy weather

0:03:00 > 0:03:02stuck within it as well and all that cold,

0:03:02 > 0:03:06cloudy weather, the thinking is, at least currently, will be moving

0:03:06 > 0:03:09in our direction and the milder, wetter weather will be pushed

0:03:09 > 0:03:10back out into the Atlantic.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13So this is what it looks like early next week - cold and cloudy.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15There's just the chance that this won't happen,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18but the most likely scenario is that we get that cold easterly wind

0:03:18 > 0:03:20with that area of high pressure.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24So, the week ahead summary - we'll have some rain at times,

0:03:24 > 0:03:25it slowly turns colder,

0:03:25 > 0:03:29but just a degree of uncertainty there in that forecast.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Bye-bye.
