0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. We're forecasting a change in the wind direction this week.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08It's eventually going to be coming out of the east -

0:00:08 > 0:00:11that means colder weather for all of us.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13It'll take time before it turns colder,

0:00:13 > 0:00:17I think Thursday, Friday is when we might even have some light

0:00:17 > 0:00:20flurries of snow here and there. Nothing too dramatic,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23we're not going to be building snowmen or anything like that,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25at least at this stage.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29In the short term we've got a window of clearer weather across the UK,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31so that means that Monday morning pretty chilly,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34in fact frosty in many areas and some mist and fog.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36We'll talk about that rain in a minute.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40The main message for Monday morning is the dense fog,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43and it could well be very dense in some areas across central

0:00:43 > 0:00:45and south-eastern parts of England.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48And then that fog is going to disperse, the winds will be

0:00:48 > 0:00:53picking up and the rain will start to sweep in to these western areas.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56I say sweep in, actually it's going to be moving pretty slowly

0:00:56 > 0:00:58into western parts of the UK.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Eastern areas, if you live in London, Hull, say Edinburgh,

0:01:01 > 0:01:05these areas will stay dry all through the course of the afternoon,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07and then by the time we get to the evening

0:01:07 > 0:01:08that rain starts to march through.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11Even a little bit of snow mixing in there across the Pennines

0:01:11 > 0:01:13and Grampians, but nothing too much, I don't think -

0:01:13 > 0:01:15it's mostly across the hills.

0:01:15 > 0:01:16And then into Tuesday

0:01:16 > 0:01:21that weather front unfortunately stalls on the east coast of England,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24so that means a grey day for you, outbreaks of rain,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27pretty wet, I think, in the morning, and then sort of damp

0:01:27 > 0:01:29in the afternoon, cos that rain will be sort of

0:01:29 > 0:01:30fizzling away through the day -

0:01:30 > 0:01:33there'll be less and less of it as we go through the afternoon.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36The rest of the country much brighter but still,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38even where it brightens up across the west and the south-west here,

0:01:38 > 0:01:42there could be some showers around. So that's Tuesday.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46Wednesday, another set of weather fronts approaches the UK,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48but they sort of stay offshore,

0:01:48 > 0:01:53so that means again a dry day for most of us on Wednesday.

0:01:53 > 0:01:54Look what's happening with the winds,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56and this is really a key here - they're coming in from

0:01:56 > 0:02:00the east here, they're coming in from the south-west here,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02down there I don't really know what's going on,

0:02:02 > 0:02:06but we're kind of in a transition period from something

0:02:06 > 0:02:10relatively mild to something a little bit colder.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13And what is happening is this area of high pressure,

0:02:13 > 0:02:17and it's called a blocking high in meteorology.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19It basically does what it says on the tin - it stops,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22it blocks the weather fronts from coming through.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26In fact, this area of low pressure will probably move towards

0:02:26 > 0:02:28the west so they all sort of go backwards,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30and eventually the easterly winds win.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33So I'm going to run this Thursday and into Friday

0:02:33 > 0:02:35all in one scene, one outlook.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38You can see the easterly winds really sort of pushing

0:02:38 > 0:02:40the weather front, even pushing me away!

0:02:40 > 0:02:42And it's going to feel cold.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46Now, temperatures by day, even into the weekend, we're talking about

0:02:46 > 0:02:50three degrees at best, and with that also comes a lot of clouds.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52It's not going to be sunny and cold,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54it looks like it's going to be pretty cloudy and cold,

0:02:54 > 0:02:58and with that also comes the risk of some wintry flurries.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01And not just across the hills but in some of the towns and cities

0:03:01 > 0:03:03throughout the Midlands, for example,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05but not an awful lot at this stage.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08And then into next week we expect this blocking high

0:03:08 > 0:03:09to remain where it is.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Once it settles here this high takes a lot to shift it,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15so the easterly winds will continue.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17So let's summarise early next week, then -

0:03:17 > 0:03:20cold easterly winds, we know that,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22frosty mornings for sure,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and a risk of some wintry flurries.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26That's it from me. Thanks for watching.
