0:00:02 > 0:00:04Well, the weather was miserable on Monday, wasn't it?

0:00:04 > 0:00:06Rain and gales in the north-west of the country,

0:00:06 > 0:00:09and I think by now everybody's had at least a bit of rain.

0:00:09 > 0:00:10If you were watching yesterday,

0:00:10 > 0:00:13we've been talking about a change in the weather pattern,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15colder weather arriving, and that still remains the case.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17From round about Wednesday onwards,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19that's when things will start to get colder.

0:00:19 > 0:00:24But in the short term, we still have a weather front crossing the UK.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27It'll be sort of reaching eastern areas of the country during

0:00:27 > 0:00:28the course of Tuesday.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30But it's grinding to a halt,

0:00:30 > 0:00:35so after travelling thousands of miles across the Atlantic,

0:00:35 > 0:00:39it's kind of slowing down into gear three, gear two, gear one,

0:00:39 > 0:00:42and now it's going to park itself across the east of the country.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44So through the early hours of Tuesday,

0:00:44 > 0:00:47it just shifts a little bit towards the east,

0:00:47 > 0:00:50leaves a bit of iciness around after that snowy night in the

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Pennines and Grampian across Scotland.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55And then we're left over with a bit of a mixed bag behind it.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58There will be some sunshine around but also some showers.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02For Wales, Cornwall, much of the West Country here, sunshine and

0:01:02 > 0:01:05occasional showers, hail and thunder possible, too.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08So don't be surprised if you need your brolly in Cardiff or

0:01:08 > 0:01:10in Bristol or Plymouth, indeed.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12And then through the course of Tuesday evening,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14that weather front is still there.

0:01:14 > 0:01:15I said it's not moving, anyway,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18it's parking itself along that North Sea coast,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and one of the reasons - and this is what we were talking about

0:01:20 > 0:01:24yesterday - why it can't shift further eastwards is because

0:01:24 > 0:01:28of the high pressure and the winds flowing around that high pressure.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30So the winds are basically putting a block on it,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33and any weather fronts that do tend to swing our way are just

0:01:33 > 0:01:36shooting northwards into Iceland.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39So on Wednesday, whatever's left over of that weather front,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42just a bit of cloud, maybe a few dribs and drabs of light rain

0:01:42 > 0:01:44but nothing more than that,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46but it's starting to feel cold now on that eastern coast.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Temperatures three degrees in Norwich,

0:01:49 > 0:01:53not quite so cold there in the west, around seven to nine degrees.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56And yesterday I was talking about that blocking high,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59that block that stops the weather fronts from coming through.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Another way of looking at it is by looking at the jet stream.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05And this is quite interesting. Look what happens.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09So, the jet stream races across the Atlantic, reaches this block,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13thinks, "Uh-oh, I can't go through, I can only go northwards,"

0:02:13 > 0:02:14so it is almost like a stone.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17And once it sits there, it's not going anywhere,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19at least not for a while.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23So Thursday, the weather front may just about hang around for a while.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26That just means a little bit of cloud, nothing more than that.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28But those easterly winds well and truly win,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31so a frosty morning, I think, across the UK,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34and then highs of only two or three degrees and pretty cloudy.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37Now I'm going to run the forecast from Friday through the weekend.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39A selection of temperatures here.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Now, watch what happens across the North Sea.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Now, this is cloud and potentially some snow mixing in,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46and this is a pattern.

0:02:46 > 0:02:47We're not necessarily taking

0:02:47 > 0:02:49these blobs of light rain or snow literally.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51It could be to the north, to the south, to the east.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54It's just the overall envelope of this weather pattern.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56So, yes, there is a potential for some snow.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58It's certainly going to be cold enough for some snow.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01How much we're going to get, whether it's just a dusting,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03a few flakes in the air or maybe a little bit more across the

0:03:03 > 0:03:07hills, too early, very difficult to forecast that at this stage.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10And into next week and probably most of next week,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13that high pressure still there - remember that block and those

0:03:13 > 0:03:15easterly winds winning.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17So, here's the summary.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Cold, easterly winds - we've said that quite a few times -

0:03:20 > 0:03:23frosty mornings and that chance of a few snow flurries.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25But whether we are going to be

0:03:25 > 0:03:27building those snowmen or not, too early to say.
