0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello, thanks for joining me.

0:00:03 > 0:00:05We've been forecasting colder weather for the last few days.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07Here's a quick summary from midweek onwards.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10You can't hang about for the next three and a half minutes.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13A cold easterly wind setting in from tomorrow onwards,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15particularly across eastern parts of the UK.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17It will be pretty cloudy,

0:00:17 > 0:00:21and maybe the first few flakes of snow arriving.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Here's the rest of the forecast.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25So, into the early hours of Wednesday.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29That weather front is still affecting eastern parts of the UK.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33It was here a couple of days ago. Swept across the UK.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36We had that awful rain early in the week and the gales.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40Early on Wednesday, it's still very close to our shores

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and it can't move any further eastwards

0:00:42 > 0:00:44because of those easterly winds setting in.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46So, through the early hours of Wednesday,

0:00:46 > 0:00:50remaining pretty cloudy across many eastern areas of the UK.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51Little spits and spots of rain.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54But through Wednesday across the west, actually,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55we've got some sunshine on the way.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57So here, the weather isn't too cold.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00You can see some of the winds here are still coming in from the south,

0:01:00 > 0:01:04just about across Northern Ireland, so temperatures of 7 in Belfast,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06but only 3 degrees, if that, in Norwich.

0:01:06 > 0:01:10And across the North Sea, we're starting to see a few flurries

0:01:10 > 0:01:12brought in by that easterly wind.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16Now, Wednesday night into Thursday is going to be a cold one,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18So first thing in the morning on Thursday

0:01:18 > 0:01:20a real nip in the air across the UK.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23This is what it looks like on Thursday from space.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25This is the jet stream.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28It's diving southwards and then northwards.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30No weather fronts pushing through.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Big area of high pressure across this part of the planet.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37And this is that blocking weather, that blocking high pressure here.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40These winds here are closer to the ground.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43So we had the upper-level winds of the jet stream earlier on.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44These are the easterly winds

0:01:44 > 0:01:47just, say, ten metres above the ground or so.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51And they will be pushing in some flurries of snow

0:01:51 > 0:01:52across eastern areas of the UK.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Now, the thinking is

0:01:54 > 0:01:56probably the north-east of England, through Yorkshire,

0:01:56 > 0:01:57maybe Lincolnshire,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00there might be a few flakes or so through the Midlands,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02but notice that the temperatures are now

0:02:02 > 0:02:04also starting to drop across western areas as well.

0:02:04 > 0:02:08Only 5 degrees. By Friday, that wind is a lot colder.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12That high pressure is shooting those winds in our direction

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and, again, it's these eastern counties here,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16certainly across the Pennines,

0:02:16 > 0:02:20I think a good chance of at least a dusting of snow here and there.

0:02:20 > 0:02:21And briefly during the day

0:02:21 > 0:02:24temperatures will be getting up to maybe 2 or 3 degrees.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28And at most I think we could see scenes like this,

0:02:28 > 0:02:29particularly across the hills,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32and not exclusively across the hills.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Now, Saturday, something interesting happens.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Yes, we've got the high pressure and the easterlies,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39but this little baby area of low pressure develops.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42That basically means clouds develop, deeper clouds,

0:02:42 > 0:02:46more potential for some rain and possibly some snow.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48But also the winds will be dragged a little bit from the south,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51so I think come Saturday, Sunday,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54perhaps a slight rise in the temperature

0:02:54 > 0:02:56and rather than just snow,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59it could be a little bit of rain and snow mixing in

0:02:59 > 0:03:00across those eastern counties.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04But having said that, we still have to be prepared for some pure snow

0:03:04 > 0:03:06at least through the rest of the weekend

0:03:06 > 0:03:08and possibly into next week as well.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Now, next week, broadly speaking,

0:03:10 > 0:03:14this is still pretty much the weather map.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Still the high pressure, still the easterly winds,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19but there is a hint that later on next week,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21rather than winds coming in from the east,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24they'll be coming in perhaps from the south or the south-east,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26so it could just about turn less cold.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28But until then, let's be prepared for a little cold snap.
