0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. This time of year, if you're in shelter with

0:00:04 > 0:00:06plenty of sunshine, it'll start to

0:00:06 > 0:00:08feel quite warm - dare I say it? - almost spring-like,

0:00:08 > 0:00:12and that's exactly what we had in western areas on Wednesday,

0:00:12 > 0:00:13plenty of sunshine,

0:00:13 > 0:00:17a glorious sunset in parts of Wales after a glorious day.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20But it was a different story further east - plenty of cloud.

0:00:20 > 0:00:25It was cold and grey for most of the day, and it looks likely that

0:00:25 > 0:00:28the cloud and the cold feel will win out over the next few days.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31But with that sunshine out to the west, temperatures responded -

0:00:31 > 0:00:3311 degrees under the cloud.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36With the strength of the breeze coming in off that cold North Sea,

0:00:36 > 0:00:40we barely saw temperatures above three or four Celsius.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43And, as I say, it looks as though that cloud is likely to be the story

0:00:43 > 0:00:44for the remainder of this week,

0:00:44 > 0:00:47and it's going to feel noticeably colder out there.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Winter has not gone away,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52and some of those showers will be of sleet and snow,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55chiefly to higher ground but maybe even a dusting at lower levels,

0:00:55 > 0:00:59all due to an area of high pressure in Scandinavia

0:00:59 > 0:01:03driving in this colder flow across that cold North Sea,

0:01:03 > 0:01:07and so most of the showers are likely to be across the east coast,

0:01:07 > 0:01:10showers of rain and sleet perhaps close to the coast,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13but come just further inland and add a little bit of height,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16there will be some wintry sleet and snow showers to come.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20Further west, there'll be more cloud on Thursday drifting across to the

0:01:20 > 0:01:25west coast, and so temperatures not quite as great, two to four Celsius.

0:01:25 > 0:01:26We might see six or seven

0:01:26 > 0:01:29in the extreme south-west and the Channel Isles.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Now, as we move out of Thursday into Friday, there's a greater

0:01:32 > 0:01:35chance of some of those showers just penetrating

0:01:35 > 0:01:38a little further inland, so we could see a couple of centimetres or

0:01:38 > 0:01:42so to higher ground and a dusting at lower levels.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44But not much change in the pressure pattern -

0:01:44 > 0:01:48the high pressure still with us on Friday and still running the risk

0:01:48 > 0:01:51of further showers across eastern Scotland and eastern England.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54A cloudy, cold day to come on Friday.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Factor in the strength of the wind, as well,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59and it is going to feel pretty dismal out there.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00You'll need to wrap up warm.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Friday looks likely to be the coldest day of the week,

0:02:03 > 0:02:06two to four, maybe five degrees if we're lucky.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09Not much change for the start of the weekend, either.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Further east, you're always running the risk of seeing

0:02:11 > 0:02:14a wintry mix of showers to come, a breezy day,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17a cloudy day and temperatures really struggling.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20So, yes, you will need a couple of extra layers if you're out

0:02:20 > 0:02:23and about for any length of time as those temperatures on your

0:02:23 > 0:02:26thermometer probably sitting around four or five degrees.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28It may feel even colder.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32Sunday a different day, but the same old shade of grey. A lot of cloud.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34It's going to stay largely dry,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37rather breezy and again feeling quite cold.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40But as we go into Monday, Tuesday, this area of low pressure looks

0:02:40 > 0:02:44likely to try to spill some milder air and some wetter weather

0:02:44 > 0:02:47with it, but the high pressure starts to sink south.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50That's going to really push that area of low pressure out of the way.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53It's a real bully, and it's going to strengthen the winds,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55which will be quite important.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57So, we start off the early part of next week with

0:02:57 > 0:03:00a high across Scandinavia, this easterly flow.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02As the high then sinks south,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05it's going to centre itself potentially close to the Alps,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07and that's going to drag in the strength of the wind,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09but coming from a southerly direction.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13Now, if this was the summer, we'd have glorious warmth and

0:03:13 > 0:03:15sunshine to go with it, but don't get too excited.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19But it does mean that there's a potential for a change in the story.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23We could see some breezier weather, yes, but milder with it,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26and because the high pressure's still in that driving seat,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28it does look likely to stay mostly dry.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30More from me over the next couple of days.
